Congratulations a beautiful timepiece. PS great choice with the G9 Harrington 😎Great combination 👍
@IDGuy
If I saw everything correctly with my aging 56 year old eyes, it seems you have taken the exact trajectory as I did a year ago... a Smiths Everest 36mm (I think that's what I am seeing on your wrist during the first part of your video) and then onto the '57 Seamaster Trilogy.
Well done sir!
Fabulous timepiece that simply crushes anything from Rolex in the Submariner line.
Wear it for the duration of your years and always in good health (even though you are clearly wearing it on the incorrect wrist 🤔😉) .
❤️🙏🏼❤️
Your video has gained a devoted Subscriber in me. 👍👍
@IDguy What watch did you wear before this one? i saw you wearing a different one in the beginning of the video.
Stunner of a watch - excellent videos !!
Instablaster
Honestly, it's either this or the Railmaster for me. You picked a STUNNER! Love it, and wear it in good health Sir.
Railmaster is massively overlooked IMO.
How much r they? Have a seamaster in blue 〰 face, bit old fashioned for me but OK 🆗
They really are hidden gems (that surprisingly haven't received a lot of attention)... but wow. And thanks a million, man!
I agree. I personally think Omega executes their designs way better than Rolex. The Seamaster 300 and the Railmaster are simple but elegant designs and the time can be read by the flick of the wrist. This is something missed by most luxury watch makers.
One of my biggest beefs with Rolex is their over branding. They’ve put their name or logo on every flat surface of their watches and they come off as an insecure teenager wanting attention.
Chris Stevenson Very well put, Chris. Love the classic simplicity of the Explorer 1 but that ROLEXROLEX... engraved all around the crown really spoils it for me. Ended up with a Railmaster!
When you really buy with the heart, you go Omega.
You got it, Bob. There was just too much in the watch that I couldn't pass up...
@@ID-Guy My first luxury piece is still a dream, but meanwhile I keep gravitating towards Omega, more than any other brand.
Funny you say that....i really feel that way... OMEGA is such a name with a history
When you look at it with brains, Omega seems to be the answer too...
Within the industrial brands, they are just as good as it gets, packed with top notch material, high technology, brand history and excelent design language.
To me, you really have to take a huge step in prices to get a watch that is objectivly better than an Omega.
My Aqua Terra worldtimer is drilled on my wrist since I got it😏
Congrats! I own the Spectre version and they're great watches. Omega is a great undervalued brand and I think we'll look back in a decade and wonder why we're so focused on other brands... such good value to be had. Ciao
Completely agree, man. The Spectre edition is going to last for a long, long time (and will continue to keep its relevant design) Very nicely said about the brand and the years to come ;)
What a great timepiece and wonderful choice. This has been such an enjoyable journey you’ve taken us on. As a relative newbie to this hobby watching and listening to your videos helped me choose my first mechanical watch (BB58) just a few months ago. I never thought I would ever become so attached to an object, but the principles you’ve been outlining all along helped me choose a watch that was perfect for me. For that I owe you a debt of gratitude🙏🏾 as so many of us here. You’re a true credit to the watch community and I look forward to every bit of new content on the future. Cheers 🥂 and wear it in good health.
Comments like these really hit deep, Ricardo. Thank you so much, man. It really is an amazing journey of discovery. And for both of us, the watches (our first) will always have a special place. Continue wearing your Black Bay in good health, brother and thank you again for your kind words
Thanks Charley, I appreciate that. Since I’ve been watching IDGuy he’s mentioned this idea of having one watch, or at least the idea of a “one watch collection”. I simply applied the idea to my first; an everyday, do everything kind of watch. Trying on specific omega, grand seiko, and Rolex models the 58 was the one for so many reasons. It will always be special as it is my first but.....it definitely won’t be my last. Just getting started a Charley😁
ricardo wong A BB58’s a cracking first purchase sir. Wear it in good health, and enjoy!
Shaver Ray thanks buddy. I appreciate you saying that.
Ah this was the perfect choice the exact choice I would have gone with if I had chosen an omega. The 39mm size is perfect
It really is such a gem Austin. A month in and I'm still pinching myself about it! Thanks so much for the comment, brother
Considering what you wanted in a watch, it seems as if this piece was designed for you! Awesome choice, wear it in good health!!. Congrats!!
And it hit me about 2 weeks ago that it feels like near perfection just fell into my lap. Crazy. Thanks a million, Pudge!
You made the right choice. That Omega looks stunning. It’s simple, elegant, stylish & beautiful. Having a symmetrical dial without a date-compilation is best.
Every single detail that worked for me: Articulating endlinks, small in stature, great history, movement, clean and simple... It's just unreal how you can sometimes stumble onto these things. Thanks a million!
I have been an Omega fan, and buyer, for over a decade. This one escaped my notice. Today is the first time I have become aware of it. Congratulations on your watch! Now I want one.
I saw the 57 speedmaster in a shop window in Paris some years ago now and fell in love and that watch really planted the seed for this watch hobby for me
Exactly the same for me Austin. After checking out modern Omega's, Rolex's and Tudors in a series of stores back in late 2017, as I was leaving the building the Seamaster 57 was sitting alone in a display case of some other shop and I couldn't take my eyes off it... The seed must have been planted then, I'm convinced. Strange right? Like the start of a great relationship.
Congratulations brother on finally purchasing a beautiful example of a historically significant Timepiece.
The Seamaster ‘57 is such a great example of how Omega produce very legible and clean looking watches. The Trilogy series was such a great collection.
The bracelet is so comfortable too. I’ve tried the Railmaster ‘57 and it is just great. The movement as you say is amazing. Antimagnetic to the max.
Above all, you have a real connection to the watch what with your grandparents wearing the brand, your father sharing the same birth year as the name of the watch and your birthday connection.
Once again, congratulations my friend. A ‘High Precision’ watch for a High Precision person! ✊
Well stated!
well said mate
Thomas Burnett 👊🏼
You knew about it a few weeks early but I hope it didn't dampen the surprise ;) And I'll try my hardest to get to your email on Saturday, brother! All I can say is that the past two weeks have really made the greatest impact. Something has just clicked and now I wear her everywhere without a second thought. Sincerely hope you're well and safe, boet. We'll catch up soon!
Oh look, it's Thomas Burnett!
What a gorgeous time piece! Truly a moment every true watch men can appreciate to the fullest! Enjoy your time with it!
Aha! I was right about the Seamaster 300 ‘57. It just checks all of the boxes:
✅ size
✅ price
✅ aesthetics
✅ heritage
✅ toughness
I would’ve personally chose the Omega AT or Railmaster but that’s a hell of a watch for the money. Congrats sir!
Congratulations...... nothing better than hearing someone that truly loves their watch rather than some that don’t appreciate what they have. The flippers that’s just see it coldly as money. So pleased you found your grail and have fulfilled your dream. All the best
I, too, was born in 1957 and am about buy my first Omega; the 300m in blue. I should dearly love to have this but, oh, a bit of a stretch at the moment...
Congratulations on buying a beautiful watch.
It's weird how this hobby works, hearing you talk so passionately about a watch I personally would never consider. It seems you def made the right choice, you sound really made up about it!
It is incredible, right? Ah, THE Seamaster has always been in the back of my mind (for well over two years) and it's pretty surreal owning it now... the thought "this is something special" is always on my mind while wearing it. Anyway! Thank you for the comment, brother!
I must admit that I did not expect to be moved by something as banal as the unboxing of a watch. No matter its content. But the added dimension of meaning, history and human connection that you so generously shared with us, the viewer, between you and the watch transformed an ordinary and ubiquitous occasion into something quite special; one filled with art, love and even grace.
Thats one helll of nice watch - Congrats !!! I bought my Speedy Pro some three years ago, and it still evoke the kind of feelings, you have for your new watch. Indeed, the “battle scars” are part of the charm, and I also will never sell. Its here to stay - its here to pass on. This is what a quality watch, is all about.
Fantastic choice! A friend of mine is considering this very watch and he's been deliberating over what to buy for ages. I'll send him a link to this. Always great content. Enjoy this beauty, really pleased to see what you ended choosing here.
Tell him that after wearing a fair share of Modern and Vintage Rolex and Omega pieces, this model doesn't disappoint in the slightest. Even the bracelet (which is compared against the Oyster) is equal if not better in comfort (the links are so nicely sized and spaced) The best thing it can say is that it looks quite light and petite, but feels substantial and sturdy in the hand and on the wrist. Thanks a million, Tetlee!
Bonus points for quoting the pontiff. He might be a little rough to watch for some, but he got me into luxury watches.
Absolutely, man. Exactly the same for me. He will always be a huge influence on this platform (especially for those who've been around for a long time)
Congratulations my friend ,A wonderful review of your own watch that's gotta feel great !
Congratulations, IDGuy! What a gorgeous piece, and it's perfect for you. So to all the fans (including me) who guaranteed that IDGuy would buy an Explorer I, I say bon appetit!
*begins ravenously eating his shoe
And I say warm up your jaws and soften the leather! hahaha! Thanks a million, brother. It's so surreal owning the watch. Not a minute goes by where I don't subconsciously think "This is something special"
You couldn’t make a better choice! Man, is that beautiful! Listening to your passionate talking I felt joy, as if it was my own watch. May you enjoy it forever!
CONGRATULATIONS! An excellent choice. For reasons I can't properly articulate I'm glad you chose this model and not the Explorer. Both would have been excellent choices but having binged a your content lately (especially during the lockdown) it became apparent that this model and brand was more you.
Thank you for allowing us to go on this journey with you. A journey that a lot of us in your audience have traveled to smaller or larger degree. It was fascinating watching you talk through all the factors that lead to you making this choice and also reassuring to know that there are others in the world that put so much thought into buying their first watch!
Wear your new watch in good health!
I just found this video and I am surprised to find that you @IDguy speak exactly my thoughts on which timepiece I'd chose among all! It's like you reading my mind. Excellent taste my man! 😂
Having been waiting for this!!!Congratulations my man!!!!
Congratulations, isn’t it great when the stars align perfectly.
Enjoy
It's just surreal. It feels as if I accidentally stumbled onto exactly what I've been looking for (without consciously thinking about it, if you know what I mean?) Crazy. Thanks for the comment, man!
The easy to adjust bracelet on the explorer is not easy to adjust. The easy to adjust bracelet on the OP 39 should be renamed as the dangerous to adjust and likely to scratch. I’m very jealous. Great vid.
My Omega is a 1963 Seamaster 30 17 jewel Manuel wind 18k gold. I love it. I own 5 omega vintage watches from 1943 to 1963. My 1962 omega steel has a similar dial. It’s a Geneva
24 jewel automatic. It’s my most modern watch. It is extremely accurate.
Admittedly not the watch I would have chosen but that's what makes watches so interesting. Congratulations
Great Video! I too was thinking about the explorer and was on the list for 7 months and no end in sight, until i went to an omega boutique and look at this one. I ended up buying it and take my name of the explorer list. Perfect watch!
Congratulation on your newest piece! You’ve made a wise decision.
Wow, congratulations on finding your perfect watch. How a watch purchase should be done. She's a beauty 👌
Of the trilogy I would personally say the railmaster is the better everyday watch proportions and unassuming as it is. Of the grail options I think the Explorer is better just because it doesn't use faux patina, which by its nature is more honest to what a vintage watch was when it left the boutique, having said that, as always, love the passion and am so happy for you on this purchase
Congratulations man. What can I say? You really put in the research, so you know that this is "the one" and it's been fun watching your process. Great photography. Enjoy with many years of good health.
Yes! The resurrected icon in the most reasonable size.👍👍👍
You purchased what you like, that’s what it’s all about 👍
C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S
Thanks a million, Frank! It's so great to finally share my story with everyone - worth the three week wait for sure ;)
Exquisite choice my friend!!! My grail watch was/is the Omega Moon watch which I bought just over 12 months ago. My other grail watch was either this or the Rail Master. As you stated this is under the radar, understated but oh so beautiful! Price? As you said, sometime pain is required but I bet you're like a kid in a lolly shop every time you look at it on your wrist...& Im sure you're almost straining your neck with the constant time checking!!!😍🤣👍🏻😎 Enjoy it!
And there it is! I knew it would be! Superb choice IDGUY, stoked you went with it in the end ... I’ll never own an omega except this one and loved since it’s release. One tiny issue for me is that it isn’t 41mm since I have 7 3/4 inch wrists.
Otherwise - perfect. Congratulations and may it bring you much joy and plenty memories!
That is one gorgeous watch. It just goes to show that if you put in the effort to study and do your homework then you'll reap the benefits. Wear it with pride. Oh and many thanks for allowing everyone to come along with you on your watch choosing journey. Stay indoors and stay safe. Bye bye.
Wowzers, beautiful watch. Congratulations 🍾🎈 🥳
I had the bracelet completely brushed on mine, makes the world of difference.
Wear and enjoy, a great choice and welcome to the club.....one downside now you have started...well you know where I am coming from ; ). Really pleased for you, and enjoy and relish the unboxing and those first few days on the wrist, a feeling you will always recall!!
Congrats. It is a refreshingly unique pick and you seem enamored, which is all the justification you'll ever need. I look forward to this Saturday's episode.
GREAT VIDEO!!! I live that this ties into tour heritage so well! You did a great job of showing why this had to be the one for you.
big surprise fantastic looking watch. I'm an omega guy, glad you never went for non stop talked about rolex's really enjoyed your journey and homework / research. I wish you many years of enjoyment with that
gorgeous piece. your description and attraction to it were top class. Now......🤔🤔🤔
An excellent choice. Heritage, tradition, authenticity, functionality and individuality are worth so much more than hype, fashion and super-inflated prices.
Congratulations,, we all deserve one truly fantastic possession,,,, hopefully mine will arrive, as soon as this virus scenario is done with,, . A truly stunning watch,, thanks for sharing your new pride and joy, with us,,,,,
Congratulations. Wear it in the best of health and for a lifetime to come.
My father wore an Omega Seamaster and my mother a gold bracelet Longines and I’ve a small collection of one of both and two Baume & Mercer. I hope they’ll all last forever.
.That’s how I buy everything. I buy furniture that lasts forever, a Kirby vacuum, a KitchenAid stand mixer....
Great video, subscribed. Two years ago I bought the most current reference of the classic hesalite Omega Speedmaster Professional, brand new. I agree with your assessment about Omega's presentation. The giant box and included accessories made the whole unboxing a very special experience.
Very nice. Glad you found something that works so well for you. Congratulations!
Very convincing review of a watch that's been causing me sleepless nights. Mine arrived 13 days ago - ordered at the Omega online store in Germany. There are moments when this watch is the most beautiful in the world and other moments when I think it is just to shiny and to small for me. Torn between the Trilogy and the standard 300. But then - still one last das left to decide...
Splendid review! I just became the owner of the other Seamaster 300. It shares some of the characteristics of yours, but that red box...I am in love with it! I wish all Omega watches came in that red box. In fact, I came close to buying your model, but stop short because I really wanted the ceramic bezel and prefer the traditional 10 - 50 on the bezel rather than 50 - 10. But it was mainly the ceramic material that broke it for me. Congratulations, though!
Congrats @IDGuy! It's a stunning piece and I think is a great choice!! Wear it in good health! Cheers !!
Congratulations, a watch worthy of Sir Connery's Bond! I have a vested interest in how this will play out for you, specifically regarding the rest of your collection. I say vested since I too had been thinking about The One. What has held me back however is how much I enjoy strapping on a favored piece in my collection after not having worn it for a while, almost like a new piece altogether. Do continue to share your journey with us. Cheers!
This is a stunner. I think I’m going for the latest model. My wrist is big and I love it…
Nice, very nice :-) Congratulations, and enjoy in good health bud!
Congratulation, stunning piece! Ive been drooling over the railmaster! But the bi directional bezel is such a handy tool, and after seeing your video it makes me question the railmaster and reconsider the seamaster. Love your videos, you have a way of explaining "feelings" i could never put words on myself.
Top job , now all you need is a B&J NATO strap and your set for life! Cool Choice enjoy
An excellent choice. You have a very good taste. Wear it in good health my friend. Just watch out for that aluminium ring as it is soft as dog's poo. It's a very slippery slope from here! Best wishes!
Congratulations my friend. I couldn’t be more pleased for you. You really deserve this 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great choice! I love the vintage look of this one. And the bracelet looks much nicer than the one they put on the regular Seamaster.
Omega was my very first watch! What a stunning piece. It has the rugged build, but vintage feel. Excellent! The box is amazing too. Very well done my G!
Beautifully written as always. Presented like a court case for ownership of something of such multi-faceted value 😉
Excellent choice. This and the 57 Railmaster are two of my favorites from Omega.
I'm really happy for you, congratulations! I think it was a great choice, looks like it represents what you stand for in watch design. Enjoy it!!
Absolute stunner! Great choice, I love the thought that went into your final decision.
Congrats on your first luxury watch purchase! And now the journey really begins..
Congratulations! This is also my Grail watch. I've been eyeing this model for the last two years. Decided I'm going to do what you did and just be patient and save.
Congratulations on your new timepiece! It's a beauty!!!
Congratulations! Such an amazing watch in the metal. The proportions totally make this watch..
That box is gorgeous.
Congrats! A Beauty
I have now watched this video and the related ones at least 6 times. Each time I watch one of these videos, my perspective changes ever so slightly. They force me to think about my watches and what I like and don't like about them. I too am considering a premium watch in the same or lower price range as your Omega Seamaster 300 1957. You picked a watch based on several criteria including uniqueness, size, history and family considerations. And it seems to be a great choice for you based on what I have learned about you and your likes/dislikes.
My journey is going through the similar twists and turns as yours did. And we both have analytic tendencies that force us to look at many aspects of each watch we encounter.
Today's turn, based on this video, is about dial size and legibility. Your Omega 1957 has a 31 mm dial diameter in a 39 mm case size. This compares to the Rolex Daytona that has a 29 mm dial in a 39 mm case. I find the Daytona dial too small. Those extra 2 mm make a huge difference.
I like slightly larger watches on my 7" wrist. 42 mm is generally my preferred size. I have a blue Submariner homage at 42 mm and it is the watch I wear the most....by far. It has a 31 mm dial.
I parked my 42 mm Seiko diver style watch for a few years. I have recently started wearing it again. It has a 34 mm dial in a 42 mm case due a very compact bezel, similar to your 1957. The Seiko is the most legible watch in my collection. Funnily, I am now starting to think it is too big. A 40 mm version with a 32 mm dial would have better proportions on the wrist and wear better for me.
Rolex and Blancpain started off with larger bezels than the Omega Seamaster. I am now beginning to appreciate the smaller bezels more as the dial size increases proportionality with the smaller bezel. Neither look is better or worse, they are just different.
Keep the great videos coming. And I loved your car watch video. More please.
Excellent choice. Simple and balanced design that’s timeless. You could wear that with a suit or jeans and a shirt fishing on a lake.
Wow I was so wrong, I never had it on my wrist, what a stunning watch, well done and enjoy it!
if you're going to buy an Omega then this is the one. Great journey and great choice
You nailed it! Congratulations. When you paired it with a Baracuta...such a class!
Awesome pick! I knew it wouldn’t be the explorer bc it is just too similar to what you already have. I didn’t know the 57 reissue was smaller, bc the new model of this is just way too big and chunky. This hit all the criteria for you and it made me realize how right the Aqua Terra was for me. Thank you for this series!
Edit also looking forward to seeing how it looks with the leather and Nato straps
Congrats! A really fine piece. I am happy for you and enjoy it!
You made a great choice, the Seamaster 57 really seems to have ticked all of your boxes. Hope you enjoy it! I had my money on a Speedy FOIS or the OP34 Olive. I forgot the Seamaster 57 existed or it would have been on that list too. The 'regular' Seamaster 300 I thought was a bit chunky for your tastes, but here you found a great slightly smaller alternative!
You chose very well indeed. It’s an absolutely superb piece of kit. Well done.
Great video man. I’m also looking forward to buying this sometime later in the year. Your review has been thorough and helpful.
Honestly the helium escape valve is so overrated. My dad was a commercial diver working on oil rigs in the gulf of Mexico so i understand why SOME people need them. But 99.9% of people that actually dive for recreation aren't saturation diving and isn't needed. Companies like Sinn build the case so strong that it's not a big deal if helium builds up in the case. I'm sure Omega is capable of doing the same thing so they can offer the seamaster 300 without that big ugly wart. I just look past it and just enjoy my watch for what it is. Congrats on your new purchase its one of the best divers Omega makes in my opinion. Now onto the next watch purchase haha.
Joshua Mount Haha exactly I wonder which one will be his next watch.
They should continue to make it smaller until it disappears. 2-3 generations from now
Squiggly phrank
Yes, and hopefully they also stop increasing the case size so it won't be as a warrior's shield by the time the valve disappears. 😂
This is one of my favorite Omega releases in a long time. I wish their normal production models would take some design ques from this watch. Most notably the more proportional size.
Congratulations - always remember my first ‘special’ piece. 👍
Unlike most collectors, you put time and thought into your purchase of a luxury watch and didn’t treat it like a “notch on your bedpost” you chose an Omega because of fond memories of your Grandparents. The movement reference number has the numbers making up your birthday. You love to swim so, it’s a logical choice you would pick a dive watch. This is a piece when you look at the time, memories of family events and holiday dinners come back. The movement being your birthday brings back life’s highs and lows and yes, both should be cherished as they paint on the canvas of your life and make up who you are.
You not only appreciate the design, but you appreciate the rich history of the watch in its development as a timepiece and the company as a whole.
I wonder about collectors who have a collection of luxury timepieces if they really appreciate the design, history of the watch and the company.
I currently don’t own a luxury watch but, I did splurge on my 50th and got a Citizen Promaster Tough Ref# BN0211-50E and I’ve come to the conclusion how much you can dress up or dress down a watch just by swapping out the straps. I’m also a huge fan of NATO & ZULU straps for their rugged construction and almost endless variety of colors and materials. You could call me a NATO & ZULU strap collector of sorts.
Again, outstanding choice! Thanks for taking us on the journey with you.
Lovely video, well done sir. I’ve purchased the same watch, being a massive Omega fan I own this particular Seamaster and the Speedmaster Professional with the 1861 movement. Both classic icons and the flagship watches from the Omega brand
Yeah, nice watch. Very nice indeed.... I kinda went through the same set of watches and it was BB58 for me on my checklist with no question.
Prefer this limited edition to any of the current Omega or Rolex sportswatches. Perfect grail watch.
Congrats!
I think anyone who likes this watch would love the OTHOS Commander 300 . It is the closest I could get to this watch. While not an Omega it is quality Made Of great specs and solid Build. DD SAPPHIRE H Link Bracelet Similar Bezel in style and build.
It's a great choice. My family is also an Omega family, they are amazing watches
Great video. I just bought my first genuine luxury watch about six mos ago. I went with the Rolex Oyster Perpetual in 39mm with a black face. Love it.
You took your time and chose very well. The modern version is too big for my 6.75" wrist. This has the sensible proportions with the retro design class. Beautiful clasp and bezel. Smart smart buy. Wear it in great health. Enjoyable review.
Congrats for excellent pick! the '57 trilogy, all of them, are simply amazing in my eyes. I long for the new Railmasters, but can't decide between the black faux patina and the "denim" one. The '57 Railmaster would be perfect if it had the same specs as the new ones but alas. The clean dial is just perfection to me.
Congrats for the purchase my friend
Excellent choice, congratulations
Just got mine! Love it.
