  • I've been base jumping for quite some time now, and it's natural that I've had a couple of close calls. Thankfully, I've only broken five bones. All of my failures were due to a combination of mistakes and bad luck. Each has its own unique story and a certain state of mind I had before the jump. I am willing to share them if you ask. Feel free to PM me if you want. I didn't wanted to put it on b.i.r.d.s. though.

    Parachutes fail at a rate of about 1/1000. Skydivers have a reserve chute; which means if that one fails too it's like winning the Powerball of death. BASE jumpers don't have a reserve, which means that 1 in every 1000 BASE jumps is going to be fatal. That number is too high for me to consider BASE jumping. I have skydived over a dozen times and counting, but will never record a single BASE jump.

    • @baseinspiredtravels
      @baseinspiredtravels  4 місяці тому +1

      I will elaborate.
      The videos are not in chronological order. Actually jump from via was when I had less then 100 base jumps, way earlier then KL.
      I could do gainers with no problem back then, but I changed technique in this jump. Instead of sticking to slow, layout style rotation I tucked my knees in. And I did it wrong and stayed on my back.
      In KL (around 600 base back then) I was over via Ferrara trauma. I was doing gainers quite often from cliffs and buildings (every 10 jumps o would say) . I felt confident and relaxed. I was so relaxed that I fucked up pitch and did it super lazy.
      So while your statement is kinda correct (I couldn't do proper those two gainers) you are also mixing up some details ;)

      @@baseinspiredtravels thanks for replying to me and for putting things back into context also. Sorry if I sounded rude but the footage was so scary to watch I couldn't help but comment on what I had in mind. But still, working on a new gainer method on via Ferrata when you have less than a hundred jumps is soooo fucked up hahahaha. Don't even understand how you even thought about doing that back then. Best regards though and thanks again for responding nicely to a comment that was in hindsight a bit harsh not knowing you personally.

      Of course, most of these incidents could have been avoided. Just like you see it now on video, I also realize that from perspective of time.
