Erecting a tree and calling it a celebration of Jesus life by using an object of abomination is not honouring the true God. God said - “Do not worship the LORD your God in the way these pagan peoples worship their gods. You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way" And in Deuteronomy 12:31 New King James Version (NKJV) "You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way; for every abomination to the LORD which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods."
