I feel he also hints at the conditions caused by the toxic work environment of black companies which seem to be a bit too common in Japan (multiple anime and manga series have mentioned them)
In the game during the Assessment questions before the Pokemon League, I picked Larry and really thought I was gonna help him get a promotion or something 😂😂
thinking about it, that quiz may be to pick which gym leader would swap in for the third elite 4 member. unfortunately with how surprisingly hard larry was for some people and how popular he is with a lot of others, he likely will be stuck as the 3rd elite member for another year again.
@@ravenschippers8267 that would be cool and I believe I picked Grusha because he? was the hardest gym leader but Iona is my favorite gym leader this generation
In the Indigo Disk DLC, you can arrange a rematch with many notable Paldean trainers, Larry included. If you chose Larry during Rika’s Elite Four interview and eventually talk to him in the League Club room at Blueberry Academy, he’ll bring it up and express confusion over why you chose him. It’s a pretty sweet detail.
Funnily enough, when entering the Elite Four and being asked about which Leader left the most impression, Larry was far and the above the only option I even considered. Most of the other names I couldn't even put a face to. Larry's simplicity truly was his most brilliant and distinguishing trait.
Lessons with Larry: 1. You can't live selfishly and expect the world to care about you. 2. Function over form. Don't make things overly complicated. 3. Work hard to appreciate the little things in life.
A little detail i love about Larry is how his tie (even during his gym battle) has clouds on it, hinting at his flying type team when you battle him later as an elite 4 member.
This isn't bad. Working hard and doing a necessary but uneventful job is what keeps the world running. In fact, a lot of people in their 20s and 30s would love to have a stable office job.
You know what? It would have been 10x better if in Medali Town, Larry was the one who asks you to beat a number of trainers in the area to give you a reward, because every other Pokémon League representative that does the job also wear a fairly similar attire to Larry. XD More work for him to do. XD
Might I also just add, Larry's Elite Four team is actually weak to a "shock" factor which also brings up the lesson that sometimes you need to jolt your senses
I would say the rivals of gen 8 and 9 all learn this lesson. To become more than just the best and dedicate themselves to more that what we do as the player. Bede becomes a gym leader, Hop a professor, Marnie was always a community leader kind of, the student three all find more by the end of their adventures in Area Zero
I played the game entirely blind and threw a Clodside at Larry's Staraptor. You can probably guess what happened next. Most memorable defeat in the game.
I'm so glad that the character I identify with and love the most in Pokémon, also shares my name. I may not be a salary man, but that 9 to 5 grind, and other responsibilities, but the personality behind it, we all can understand. Kids, don't let yourself become trapped in a drab boring life, take risks, and contribute to society, while also having fun and letting your creativity and passions flourish.
The funniest thing about Larry's elite four team is that his ace is one of the most normal looking animal/Pokemon. I can see why Salamence wouldn't suit Larry as his ace.
But isn’t it ironic that the only reason people seem to like Larry so much is because compared to the rest of the cast, he’s ‘different’? So he kind of subverts his own message. The guy is also clearly miserable and uses a Staraptor as his ace, I wouldn’t go taking life advice from him. The other gym leaders seem to have far more fulfilling day jobs too.
Haha I think a lot of the appeal is that he's more relatable to the average working adult than Iono, Grusha, etc., but you have a point about the Staraptor. 👀
I remember one fan-video where they give him the fan backstory that he was from our word and got Isekai's to the Pokemon world...from one black Company to another.
Larry is a great character . Every Gen, there is almost always that memorable character, and Larry is Gen 9's memorable character . It also helps that my co-worker and friend is an older gentleman whose name is Larry and is very boring, lol 😆 and also has white hair
Quick addendum to the whole “this is why Japan is such a safe and cultured place to live” bit; Japan is not all rising suns and rainbows, mainly due to the overt prioritization of the expectations of society (avoiding social discord whenever possible) over the principles and worries of the individual. There are many times when someone overtly wrong is happening in broad daylight and nobody seems to care, such as a molestation incident on a train or someone that seems to be stalking someone else, not because nobody actually cares, but because nobody wants to be the person who draws attention to it. Nobody wants to be the bee who buzzes out of tune. This is why principles are so important, because your principles will be there to help you do the right thing, even when society expects otherwise.

Hmm...does every Gym Leader have at least one other job outside of being a gym leader? There's an artist, a baker, an influencer, a rapper, an office worker, a skier, a model, and a chef.
I would like to propose the idea of another trainer that has been mentioned in the game but never made an appearance in-game to come in and take Larry's place in the Elite Four. Of course this isn't going to happen let alone would anyone else give it any thought or consideration. But I would like to propose that another flying specialist and Falkner's dad, Walker, be the one to take his place. I believe it would've been a great post game inclusion for the Elite Four rematch battles.
Larry talking about simplicity reminds me of how people were relieved back in Pokemon Sword / Shield because Piers didn't Dynamax. So it was just a regular ol gym battle. Maybe Larry is Gamefreak acknowledging that

With learning the three life lessons from our favorite generic businessman, I think I found my treasure... the journey of life is one's greatest treasure.

Then they proceed to start complaining that their lives have gotten so boring and stale and people have been ghosting them lately. Like yeah, no shit. They go so over the top trying be a unique a quirky individual that they repel others, then burn themselves out trying to keep that act up
Scarlet and Violet got a little too real at multiple points. Dealing with bullies and how you sometimes get punished for standing up to them, having to deal with absent parents, and dealing with the everyday grind like Larry. Heck, even the last line of the main story of "Let's take the long way home" hits a little too close. For all its performance issues, S/V's execution of it's characters and relatable themes are some of the best in the series
Not only is Larry working as both gym leader and E4 member, but I wouldn’t doubt he’s the one picking up the slack for the fact that poppy’s literally a toddler and can’t actually do work outside battles
Actually, the gym leaders' terastallize their pokemon into the type of their gym. Since Larry's gym is normal type, it's not unexpected for his staraptor's tera-type to be normal :)
Thought: the comesy rule of three says that a joke needs to be told 3 times. First, Larry is the surprise gym leader. Second, Larry is a surpruse Elite 4 member. So, wouldn't the logical conclusion be that Larry should be the surprise champion?
on the topic of Larry, THIS is why representation is important!! from time to time, we all need someone to resonate with us tho the execution is another topic, nevertheless the point still stands

Yeah, it touched on some dark themes. They did a pretty good job with the characters and storylines. :)
Larry is the greatest character of all time.
This video should be viral
Just coffee?! I will make him a meal and coffee he deserves that much
Throughout the video just had one thing to say...
My man said the truth👍
I completely agree with All three life lessons
They're useful takeaways!
To quote a friend of mine, "he's literally just a guy"
…or…
A single level one hundred Gholdengo.
🤣🤣🤣
This is such a great video with such a true and impactful meaning, I appreciate your hard work and dedication to this and all your other videos!
Really happy to hear you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words! It means a lot.
🗣️ LIVING LIKE LARRY!!!!!
*Patrick voice*
Haha I haven't watched much of Spongebob but I looked that up.
"SkilShaaaareeeed"
BTW even though he has no speaking part Larry/Aoki has been seen in the new Anime.
Charles chill! Banger after banger … this video hit hard haha
Glad you enjoyed it. :D
on the topic of Larry, THIS is why representation is important!!
from time to time, we all need someone to resonate with us
tho the execution is another topic, nevertheless the point still stands
