Eparterial Bronchus: The right superior lobar bronchus is termed "eparterial" because it branches above the pulmonary artery. "Epi-" means "upon" or "above", so this branch lies superior to the artery.
Hyparterial Bronchus: The other bronchi on the right lung (the middle and inferior lobar bronchi) and all bronchi in the left lung are called "hyparterial" because they branch below the pulmonary artery. "Hypo-" means "under", hence these bronchi are inferior to the artery.
