Too bad that he is depressed, , tired and sad and even don't belive that he should keep the title Karmapa..... Very sad story gyalwa karmapa, Yes i know karma kargue divide into two coz of two lama situ rinpoche and shamar rinpoche recognition of karmapa but what ever sharmar rinpoche pass away of heart attack but i myself feel like shamar rinpoche also have feeling sad story coz i have listen his speech also and seen videos karmapa Delhi monastery throwing stones window and doors when sharmar rinpoche recognized Tinley thaye Dorjee, i think situ rinpoche mistakes for not telling to his followers not to do all such things, he recognized orgyen Tinley Tinley dorgee and went to gyalwa rinpoche coz gyalwa rinpoche is spiritual and political leader of tibet at that time.

Commonly its said that the Karmapas recognize themselves already as a child. Karmapa Thaye Dorje did that when he lived next to the Jokhang in Lhassa in the late 1980ies . Kagyu.org (from Karmapa 900) cites: "In general, Karmapas are often described as “self-recognizing.”" (kagyu.org/recognition-of-the-karmapas/) When you say that you - as a child - did not know that you were the Karmapa, does this , in a hidden way, mean, that you are not the Karmapa? ... Or is it because you are just so limitlessly humble? Why don't you say that you are Karmapa? Please let us know... Many thanks and all best for your health.
I think he has told us why he doesn't claim to be the Karmapa. He says he "has no basis" to believe it. He doesn't feel like he has any degree of realization, can't handle the job like previous Karmapas could, etc. Of course he could be lying, and actually be an enlightened Karmapa. That's what most Buddhists will probably claim: That's he's applying "skillful means" on us with this message. Who knows?

Also, maybe you can meet him in person. His story seems a bit like your story, from what I have read online. He has an inspiring story for those who lack confidence in themselves.. More than 20 years ago, you appeared to me in a vision, so never doubt your capacity to inspire others in the Dharma. Your power and influence comes from within, so never doubt yourself. Perhaps a longish retreat is possible? May all beings be happy.
According to my understanding, i think it is sad to learn from H.H.17th Gyalwang Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorjee don't get enough support from senior Kagyu lama or weak Kagyu admin plan for his dharma education, either all the senior lama from kagyu must give him more time for dharma teaching or support / advice him to learn or expand dharma knowledge from other school, i think it is not a big problem from view because every school says differently but same meaning ( Buddhism is like one tree with many branches ) eg from my knowledge H H Dalai Lama get teaching from Sakya, Ningma & Gelug senior lama but i don't know whether H H Dalai Lama get teaching from Kagyu senior lama, for that H.H.17th Gyalwang Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje don't need to go other school , rather invite senior lama from other school for teaching, don't get me wrong. Dharma education or knowledge is more imp than were it got from or institution like H H Dalai Lama invite other senior lama from diff school . we need to be more open & oneness
