Their holding out on the first 2 doctors not because of them being black and white it’s that their trying to recover as much of those episodes as they can as the 90+ missing episodes are theirs and theirs still a few they haven’t animated all of them yet
I thought you were going to talk about the actual issues with these box sets? Like how the disc holder gets ripped off during transit or how the finger gap is way too small to access the different discs. Saying that I did get burnt with the season 8 pre-order with zavvie after waiting months, they then tell me sorry but we are out of stock and cannot get more :( not happy
The thing that annoys me other than the ebay prices is that while they are marketed on social media, there isn’t really a reliable way to follow news on new releases, I could be scrolling on twitter and see a tweet from a few days prior about a new release from a fan but there’s not like a “dvd news twitter page” or anything to follow
I have three Region 1 US sets (released prior to the newer standard editions), one of which I bought used. Aside from that, I put my discs in binder sleeves and did without the cases. At first I couldn't figure out why the UK versions were so different from their US counterparts, but I don't spend much time looking at package art anyway. Instead, I pay more attention to the videos themselves. I think everyone should have a choice though, but not have to pay so much for printed images.
When I made that video standard episodes weren’t on the shelves and as a result the prices for the limited ones dropped. I now can buy buy the ones I’m missing so everyone wins.
Yeah, I've been watching lately a lot of the classic era and thought for a while trying to collect the blu rays... One eBay search and I completely abandoned the idea hahah
I thought nothing of them when the first one was released, but when I brought one I became Gollum and told myself that I needed more. It might be a good idea for you not to buy them because you’ll follow a similar fate.
Perhaps you could import the Region 1 versions? They come in standard casing and don’t have all the artwork or the booklet, but the disc contents are the same and what’s in the booklet is in PDF form I believe. They’re also much cheaper and not limited, I was able to get season 12 for about $20. Since I live in America and I didn’t get into the Classic Blu Rays they were a really good alternative. Though you’d have to also keep in mind they release months later after the UK version. Still waiting on Season 8 to be up for preorder although Season 24 is already.
@@arcticbear5102 at present that's the only way for new fans without tons of money to get a matching set. They are a bit less cheap once postage and import taxes are paid, but still a bargain compared to UK editions on eBay. I'm actually a bit of a fan as the cases are much more space efficient and durable. I'm kind of hoping we get a UK reissue in that format. That said, they could have included some kind of basic booklet and numbered the seasons properly. Also, the discs aren't region restricted which is good news. However, the frame rate is converted to the North American standard of 30fps (60i) from the original UK 25fps (50i). Modern UK/EU TVs and players will handle 60i just fine, but minor picture artifacts caused by the 50i to 60i conversion will bother the small proportion of people who notice such things.
@@snapea Yeah, I own the Region 1 version since that’s where I live and it’s cheaper than getting an import. I’ve been watching for a long time but I didn’t properly get into the classic series until a few years after the first Collection release. I also agree that it would be nice to have some sort of booklet or insert that lists the disc contents. Otherwise, I’m perfectly happy with them, except for the fact that they seem to be getting manufactured poorly. I recently started watching all the special features (only watched the episodes before) and found that disc 2 of talons was scratched, and it’s probably too late to get a replacement. I also don’t want to have to rewatch everything lol. Other people have had this issue as well with Season 14 from what I’ve seen on Amazon reviews. Hopefully production improves.
@@arcticbear5102 yeah, agreed, don't know how they're managing to have so many quality control issues. I've just received my Season 8 (UK) box set and the very pretty booklet is misprinted with some pages printed twice and some not at all.
@@danjohnsonDW Sydney, Australia. Australia have the exact same Blu-Ray region as the UK. So for 12 they literally repackaged the UK version with a new slipcase with the Australian age rating on it. The discs inside were the UK ones. I got lucky to find it. 69 ASD or £200 online. The rest I got pre-ordering on Amazon. I’m a UK resident who was in Australia as I’m a flight attendant. BBC still replaced the faulty discs too (OG release two discs had sound issues but the BBC replaced the discs on request with proof of purchase).
I know people who have thought they have ordered them and then to be told just before the release that they didn’t. I’m so fearful of that, even if I get them straight away
To some extent they're focusing on the seasons where they can have interviews with the crew, writers, actors and actresses (main, supporting, and/or guest star) etc. that are still alive and are available to be part of the Special Features. Since they keep releasing individual blus for the Second and (soon) the First Doctor, those season sets will be easy enough to assemble down the road
My left ear loved this video, abit weird that your voice is only coming into my left ear with quiet music on the right. Other than that really good video!
The new season 8 the collection has a studio vt clock compilation on the last disc of the special features however it only has the vampire from space/Claws of Axos and Colony in space VT Clocks, oddly the VT clock for the Daemons episode 4 is not included even though the 2"Quad tape for this story survived the wipe and reuse policy, so presumably a VT clock for this episode does exist!
I'm glad they're re-releasing the sets now, even if they are in standard packaging. I don't mind as it gives me a chance to start collecting them, without the ludicrous prices.
Enjoyed the video Dan. I agree with you. I've lost many an auction because of snipers. In the US the sets are easier to get because of the ugly, low budget packaging. I hope you're able to obtain the missing seasons to complete your collection.
Hi John. I wouldn't term the US versions as "ugly" per say. I would just call them basic. You get what you pay for and to me it's much more important to get all the contents in the superior blu ray format than it is for the packaging. For us US fans BBC Entertainment chose us just to get the cheaper bare bones edition while actually the fans in the UK are kind of forced to pay the much higher priced UK versions. So I actually think we have it tad better.
One of the reasons I’m glad to be an American Whovian is that the Season box sets, despite the underwhelming packaging are cheap and look real nice on the shelf. To me, it’s somewhat worth the months of waiting after the UK fans get theirs
@@Trev359 A very selfish attitude... Why should only UK residents be able to buy the better set if others wish to have it as well and are willing to pay for postage and customs? Is being UK resident some kind of privilege nowadays?
I have collected the complete Dvd collection but i just haven't got the heart to start all over again though the blurays are marvellous of what i've seen.
I feel your pain , I took my eye off the ball with season 14 and didn't preorder and ended up paying more than double the price on ebay, I justified the price as a one off to fill the gap in my collection and also because I regret missing the boat with collecting the nuWho steelbook series
They went on the record saying they plan to release all of the seasons including the first six, as early as just after season 19 came out, the second set. They're holding back on the black and white seasons because all of the first six have missing episodes which are currently in the process of receiving animations. It makes perfect sense to hold off until they're complete or at least more so. I don't think saying the worst thing about them is that they're limited holds any weight whatsoever and hammers home how good the sets really are that you have nothing concretely bad to say about them. I'm sorry you've missed out but they've also been widely advertised as being limited from the very first set. Preorder if you want them, it's a simple solution. The season 14 issue was sorted out with further printings just a couple of months after they botched the orders. I know it's popular opinion to complain that they're too limited now but when they first started coming out it was popular opinion to say they weren't worth getting. It's only since they've turned out so well that the same people complain they can't get hold of something they were told was strictly limited at the time. They had the same facts we did. They will obviously re-release them at some point in the future in a less limited format, and presumably digitally too, but these expensively made and deluxe sets don't make sense to make on mass. The reissues will be more like the American version, plastic, cheaper and more flat packed, and presumably won't see light until after they've finished the limited sets. It's hard to argue with the business model. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few season 12 like limited reissues along the way for some of the early releases though.
Don’t get me wrong the boxsets are great and when they started I simply didn’t have in interest in classic who to buy them. Over a year ago I started trying to buy them. And that is my fault, I would of pre ordered them with the benefit of hindsight. I’ve been trying to buy them on eBay and sellers seem to have brought large amounts of them to sell on. They are allowed to do this, but it makes it hard to bid against when there is such a pay wall blocking me and others from getting them. I wasn’t trying to point out the faults of the set, but the atmosphere around them. Fingers crossed for some re release of some kind.
Yeah I fully sympathise with late comers like yourself, and its why I'm fairly confident we'll get periodic limited rereleases to help you catch up. It's a growing problem with Doctor Who in general that prices are becoming so hiked up - the Virgin New Adventures being another example of mass inflation, where a quick search shows Lungbarrow going for £200 when it originally retailed at £4.99. There is a problem there but it's widespread in society and massively effects things like concert tickets too. It's more an issue with the internet and fanatics (in the classical meaning). With such a large market place, what things go for is effectively what people are willing to pay, however ridiculous that becomes. Doctor Who is special interest so we all hunt these items like holy grails. Like with you, the series 9 steel book mocks me with those price tags no sane person would pay so I'm not alien to it myself and being outbid on slightly more affordable items is a terrible gut punch. I totally agree with your points there, I just felt it was a little misdirected at the teams who are clearly putting so much love into it, especially compared to some of the new Who alternatives.
@@andrewmckinnon3211 I wasn’t directing it at those that make it. They work so hard to give us new interviews and all that stuff. It was interesting to hear a different opinion.
Great review as always Dan! I totally get what your talking about on these Collection Blu Rays. The pricing, availability, and the frustration of trying to get a complete collection is indeed stressful! I know I've been complaining a bit about how us US fan's seem to get the unfair treatment from the BBC when it comes to the releases. Fortunately I've been lucky when it comes to at least the Complete Blu Ray Collections. Like I've told you I was fortunate to run into a dealer at my local swamp meet who happens to sell entertainment product from the UK. Doctor Who actually was his specialty. Though he doesn't carry to many of the dvd releases, I have bought from him some of the Complete History Books, all the animated steel book sets, and most importantly ALL the Compete Blu Ray Seasons. AND at ridiculously cheap prices! ( $20/$30 ) They may be "hot" but just so long that I can get them is perfectly fine with me! LOL! Just kidding. They do have a promo label on the cover but otherwise it is exactly the same. BUT I still have to buy the US version as well just so I can still watch them! So combining the price of having to buy both the US and UK versions I still wined up paying anywhere from $60/$70, but at least it's for the two together. So, actually I am pleased with the release schedule. It does give me the time to save up the money. Though, like you said, at the rate the BBC is releasing these, it will take approximately 20 years for the whole series to be released. For me, that sucks at my age! I'll be old and in a wheelchair before I see it. I didn't realize how young you were and you are indeed lucky. 20 years or not you'll still be a "youngster" thus still enjoy the Collection sets! This does bring up one thing that does bother me and that is the technology aspect. In 20 years what's the technology going to be like. Will there be yet another new format/change? Anyway, I realize this pandemic has slowed down things and I do miss when these sets were released at 4 times a year. 5 years is certainly better than having to wait 20 years for the complete series. Keep up the good work Dan. So until next time!
Thanks John, I did forget to mention the changing of format over the next 10 years. A set in 4K could be on the horizon, probably wouldn’t be worth the upscaling on the old footage though. I’ve been told I’m mature for my age.
@@danjohnsonDW LOL! The last thing we need is an upscale in the format! Like you said it's not worth it because the footage is old. Mature AND knowledgeable to boot!
I'm lucky enough to own all the box sets, (my season 12 is the re-release but nevermind) but I had a scare when Zoom.co.uk cancelled my season 14 set and I couldn't find it anywhere for a couple weeks. Luckily HMV had a restock. I also share your fear of having inconsistent designs, I hope the logo doesn't change with 3 box sets left or something like that. I think the main reason 60s stuff hasn't been released yet is because of the missing episodes and animations currently coming out. I want the 2 missing episodes of crusade to be animated for a season 2 release - one of my favourite seasons.
Jealous, I have found Zoom to be reliable, but because it hasn’t stocked season 24 I’ve brought it from Amazon, I’ve had bad experiences there. It’s scary to think about having a cancellation.
@@danjohnsonDW I used Zoom up until they cancelled my order and I didn't want to risk it again. I would have gone with HMV if I were you. Amazon can be dodgy with their packaging.
well they have actually said there working on 60's who so we are getting the Hartnell and Troughton years it might just take a lot longer and pre covid we were getting 3 a year but 2 year is due to the fact were in A GLOBAL PANDEMIC so 2 a year ill happily take what we get.
Thanks to the reiusses, the prices for the regular sets have gone down on eBay so I’m still able to get the versions with superior packaging! I’ve almost got Season 12 and Season 19 and 10 seem to be going for good prices but I will probably wait for Season 18 when its re-issue is announced so the better version’s price will go down on eBay
Great video I really like theses kind of videos you are doing and I definitely think thet should make it wildly available the cheapest I managed to get one for was £20 and the seller even though in a enemy of the world dvd and have you pre ordered the season 8 and 24
That a great deal, which boxset? Yes I have pre ordered them both. I’m a big uncertain of season 24 because I didn’t buy it from Zoom like I normally do. I’m worried about the possibility that Amazon has had a tech issue and the boxset won’t arrive.
@@danjohnsonDW it was season 26 I have ordered from Amazon before they have great service and all the boxsets I have ordered are all come in amazing condition
@@lewisfrisby5673 I have ordered from them before for these boxsets, I was put of by a recently purchase I had of a camera remote. It said order received for weeks, but they had sold out or something so after it wasn’t sent after 3 weeks I cancelled it.
"The Collection range of Doctor Who will be re-issued in standard packaging! The first titles to join this range will be Season 12 and Season 19, which are available to pre-order now." Good chance to fill your gaps.
Some ideas for you. 1. Preorder them from a company that take the money up front AND from Amazon. You can return your Amazon one if the prepaid and preordered one comes. You could keep both and put one up for sale on eBay to get enough money to buy a missing boxset. 2. You said you play lego video games. Why not go and get a job instead of wasting time on games and vlogs and you might be able to afford them 🙂
There is a level of irony if I talk a lot about scalpers and then buy two of one item to sell it on. It’s a good way of making money though, but reselling a new set isn’t enough for an old set, because they are hundreds of pounds, but I’ll be patient and wait to find them at a fair price.
I'm exactly the same!! I own the exact same four boxsets and im really struggling to find S10, 18, 19 for a decent price - I've already told myself i'm not going over 65/70 per one because it's ridiculous. I understand they wanted to make them limited edition but its not fair to fans who join throughout the years, (like myself) they're absolutely gorgeous, i just hope they announce a re-release soon because I don't see the point in collecting them if i cant ever get the complete thing.
Your so right, I remember them coming out and just at that time I wasn’t paying them any attention at that time. If over the next 10 years the fans grow then these earlier boxsets are gonna be more sort after.
@@danjohnsonDW true, i do love the artwork for the earlier steelbooks series 9 and 10 they are a lot better than the new ones. I’ve recently ordered the big finish Eccleston vinyls coming out. Think I’ve got a bit of a problem 😂
Series 10 is one of the best Steelbooks. I do feel like I’m in the minority with liking the new ones over the ones for series 1-4. I pre ordered the new 9th doctor boxsets when it was announced in a big bundle. I have no use of the Vinyls so I just got cds.
@@charlieandrewmurraywilliam9072 😂 frustrating isn’t it. I’ve only done a few offers and they didn’t work. I’m hoping someone doesn’t know what they have or I’m lucky enough to win it without it rising too high.
Honestly it’s just sad at this point, so many people are missing out and I think if they where Gonna rerelease them they would have done it by now so either they’ll do complete doctor boxsets (like seasons 24-26 for McCoy) or we won’t have them. I remember in an interview one of the main people who make these boxsets said if you miss one then you should import them from the US so that kinda confirms there are no plans to rerelease them any time soon 🙄🥺
@@danjohnsonDW yeah, i think the more people ask the more chance they get released in some form which I’m fine with as long as we get all the same content 😂😂😂 I just really don’t wanna miss one cause that would be so annoying 😅
There is money to be made from It to it would be stupid for the BBC not too, I get the sense that they make enough for demand even if thats only for a short time, we just have to cross our fingers, have you got them all?
@@danjohnsonDW thankfully I have got them all 😅🙂 but I know eventually I’ll miss one or two but I think I’ll just import the American sets until they are eventually re-released 🙂😂😂
They do plan to release all 26 seasons. They are waiting to have all of the seasons in colour boxsets done first as they have all of those still in the archives. They do aim to release seasons 1 to 6 when these are all done, they are also waiting on the animations for the 1st and 2nd doctors to be completed as all the audio for their episodes still exist.
There's no conspiracy regarding the 60s seasons, nothing to do with black and white. They can't release them because there are episodes missing. I would have thought that was fairly obvious. Also, it took twenty years to release the VHSs and DVDs so that's normal. You're not exactly going to be old at 28. Anyway 2 a year would be 13 years, not 20.
No I won’t be old at 28, but I will be in a different place in life then. I might have different views and tastes so I might not be interested anymore. When I recorded this I didn’t include season 8 so there where left 19, therefore took 10 years. I’m not sure where you got the 20 from.
I know it sound very nitpicky but I'd much prefer it if they had the specific Doctor Who logos for their respective years. In a few years time the Whittaker era logo will end up being out of date... and it just wouldn't look right personally.
It’s not nit picky, I know what you mean. it’s going to be so annoying as the series logo changes and the sets change as well. I would just like some consistency.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the look of these box sets. They are gorgeous. What I hate is the limited value of these sets. I’ve heard some horror stories of people not being able to get the S14 set despite ordering it! I’m happy to stick with the classic DVD’s as I have spent YEARS building that collection. Great video :)
Tbh I see why they raise in price you have to see it from actual people’s view not sellers I genuinely have been collecting them for awhile now they are limited so why people complaining I under sold season 18 for 80 pound had to buy a few at £70 each yeah season 14 was a piss take to get as it was cancelled for me they are all gonna be released most likely season 1 1st due to it only missing MP and 2 episodes from a another story
Those prices are quite good prices, because that can be affordable at some point. There’s a lot of people selling that just want to get rid of the ones you have, but I find it frustrating with those who are selling like 10 at once. I’ve been watching some of series 1 at the minute and I think that would be a good choice
Dan Johnson I have a feeling season one will be released on the 60th makes the most sense and here’s to hoping they have found more episodes and just aren’t saying any till the blu rays would be class 😂
Dan Johnson one can dream haha it’s seems like it’s a huge story and apparently they change costumes loads and has loads of people in it will take them awhile if done right could be a really great story
I only got the seasons i didn't have the single dvds of. I got 18, 19 and 26. Best thing to do was just buy them when the preorders go up when they're about £39.99. Scalpers will be scalpers buy in bulk and sell for an astronomical price.
I haven’t ordered season 24 yet because they probably haven’t even made it yet 😂 I tend to wait a month or two after it’s been told it’s a thing or when we actually know when it’s set to release
I don’t think I would have the nerve to wait, when I see them announced I get it so that I don’t miss out. I think that season 24 is set for early June so it might be time to place an order. This release is going to be strange because Zoom isn’t stocking it so everyone is turning to the other sites to buy.
Dan Johnson is that confirmed or perhaps they are doing what I am wasn’t it zoom that messed up last time perhaps they got greedy and when the time came they had promised too many people
I think that Amazon gave a date of June at one point, but that’s not official. These sets get moved around more than most. They did, but I think that was a a few pre orders back. They had no idea It was coming neither so it could of been as simple as miscommunication.
I completely agree with you, this is why I won't be buying the Blu Ray collections. Actually the only reason to buy them is for the new special features (which even then to me aren't worth the upgrade) and because they take up less space on the shelves. It's taken me 5 years to complete my DVD collection and I don't see any reason to replace it (mind you I'm not a double dipper, if I have a film on DVD I won't bother upgrading to Blu Ray unless it's for a specific reason). With limited editions they would normally release a limited version first an then a standard edition after the limited edition has sold out, this usually happens with boutique labels like Arrow Video who would first release a limited edition box set of a film with posters and write ups and other shit and shortly after they would reissue the title in a standard Blu Ray case with just the disc (maybe a booklet as well) but it looks like the BBC aren't planning on doing this, even the reissue of Season 12 was released because the BBC didn't expect the demand for it (even I was baffled given most people who buy these already have the DVD versions and they are mostly upscaled so they don't show any major image quality improvements). Needless to say the DVD versions will suffice, a lot of them have been in print since 2003 and show no signs of going away.
I’ve got quite a small collection of classic DVDs so for me, I’ve always stayed away from them to wait for the collection to come around. The key of time season for example. I also love the designs and the stuff exclusive to the sets.
It's insane that the BBC is allowing Doctor Who Blu-Rays to go out of print in the UK. I can't figure out why they'd cost themselves so many sales by letting supply fall so far short of demand. It feels weird to have to import US editions of a BBC series in case they're never reissued in the UK (I'm not going to pay silly eBay prices for UK versions - it'd be nice to have a matching set but ultimately it's the programmes I want). Fingers crossed that we'll either have non-limited releases or multi-season boxes in the future. Tbh, I'd happily have them in standard plastic cases like the US ones if the packaging is the issue. Sooner or later the pretty card cases are gonna get tatty.
I think it comes to not having and extra stock that they can’t sell. The sets are also completely sold out and to them they’ve made there money back and everything in under a week. It’s perfect for them. I recently thought about wether I wanted to have the episodes instead of the box and consistency. It will bug me and I’ll always try to get the ones I don’t have, but I would take the slim version over nothing.
@@danjohnsonDW no doubt they've made money on these but they could have made more money by making more. I can only guess that they massively underestimated demand for the first few box sets and now they're stuck with limited editions that are too limited in number. Still doesn't explain why we haven't had a non-limited 'regular edition' though. It makes me sad to think of all the fans who can't even start collecting the series because all the previous releases are unobtainable. I'd still rather a matching set. If they reissue them in any form in the UK I'll get that version and sell my current copies. If not, I'll make do with the mix and match.
I've personally managed to get a pre-order on each one although I still think they're overpriced tbh. Sometimes they're also not the sturdiest of things either with my season 19 one having the inside leaflet holder bit a bit on the loose side. I do think it's bizzare that there aren't simultaneous releases of the season blu rays as a standard edition as well as a digital itunes release of the season. I think the collection sets would still have the sell out factor because Doctor Who has a passionate fan base who wants the collectable version with the fancy box. If they still wanted to do some gatekeeping still, then they could just not have all the special features which would be bullshit but then they would still have that much higher demand for the collection boxes and at least people can buy classic who in the best quality and not take up giant amounts of shelf space (the main reason I jumped at the season 12 release when this started, i'd only got season 21, 22 and 23 on dvd and that was too much for me) Personally I like that they do come out twice a year as, as you say, they're pretty pricey and that along with the new series steelbooks that are coming out is more than enough for me. I really don't mind it taking ten years or so for them all to come out because it's something to look forward to and it means I'll be able to afford them all providing I don't miss a pre-order which has been so far so good for myself.
I’ve used the sets as the start of owning it all, I had a few DVDs but not a lot, or a full season. These are the best way to do it, because I like the look and features. A standard edition would be a good idea, but I think that everyone will still go for the limited edition.
Of course they’re holding out on the Hartnell and Troughton seasons, none of them are complete. They’re all missing at least a couple episodes or serials, so I would HOPE that they would do the other 20 seasons FIRST, because it would really suck if they released a season incomplete only for the tapes to appear a couple years later.
@@danjohnsonDW dwca.org.au/hartnell-and-troughton-blu-ray-releases-confirmed/ That season 1 mock up caught my eye on google and got me so hyped XD confirmed is a bit of a stretch but I do hope they include the animations, especially because they haven't been releasing any of those in America in Blu Ray, what's more they've foregone the 2020 Power of the Daleks.
I spent over £200 on these sets just to try to catch up. Season 10 cost me £105 brand new and season 18 cost me about £110 open(my fault for not reading more closely the description on eBay). Season 19 is the only set I don't own at the moment. Looks like I will have to pay at least £120 for an opened copy. But for the moment I will buy the standard re-issue of season 19.
I two hope to get season 19, even with the new release. Btw be careful on eBay because the two sets are listed as the same item and it’s the standard versions are already being priced wrong. Out of curiosity why do you go for sealed copies of the sets?
I don’t what they are gonna do about the early series because they will animate them for release. They are picking a lot of 2nd Doc stories at the minute so I’ll end up with two copies of those stories.
Interesting discussion dude but word of advice, work on your audio mixing. Your levels are quite low and not stereo balanced. I know you said you don't have much money but it's worth checking guides and tutorials for audio mixing, since it's very easy to get wrong. I honestly mean this in a constructive way and don't mean this as an attack. Your ears will be more quickly offended than your eyes when it comes to video content
@@danjohnsonDW fair play bro, hope it gets sorted on your end. Mistakes happen, make sure to check your sound on multiple sources before uploading, with and without headphones
The only thing i don't like is the chibnall logo. As someone who stopped watching the show after the moffat era that logo pissed me off. Besides that i like them a lot. Currently have season 8 10 12 14 19. Still want to get season 18 but damn its so expensive on ebay.
I just want it to be consistent, it will be annoying if along the shelf the logo keeps changing, especially when they aren’t being released in order. I do think that the hardest to get is season 10 and you’ve managed that. I’ve been looking for the 3 I don’t have for a year or so now and I’ve never seen season 10 for under £200
I honestly think the Chibnall logo actually looks quite pleasant when presented in the silvery white colour on the blu ray sets. The gold colouring in the actual show just makes the logo look way more tacky.
Maybe just buy your favourite Doctor on Blu-Ray or favourite era so you don't feel you need to buy it all. We have the dvds to fill in the gaps. We already pay the BBC licence fee and you'd think licence fee holders should have a reduced price after all we've already paid towards the making of the show. Peter Capaldi said Doctor Who is made by all of us and belongs to all of us and we've made it what it is. The BBC should remember that. Great video.
I’m afraid I’m too much of a completionist to not have them all. Instead of DVDs (that are cheaper options) I’ve holding back on them in order to get more in the new range.
TV licenses are something I hope disperse over the next few years, because the BBC are making money of other sales, while still calling themselves public owned.
I’m too young to pay it, but I think that instead of just stopping the payment, there should be a more legal and official path. So that something actually happens over it appearing on Twitter trending every once in a while. I wouldn’t mind adverts on the BBC if they got rid of the licence , but I don’t think they will ever swallow their pride.
@@danjohnsonDW Very true. It wouldn’t be so bad if they acknowledged the people who funded them and put out more consistent content. Subscribed to your channel. Great talking with you.
Their holding out on the first 2 doctors not because of them being black and white it’s that their trying to recover as much of those episodes as they can as the 90+ missing episodes are theirs and theirs still a few they haven’t animated all of them yet
The 60s series are definitely on their way; they just have a lot of technical issues picture-wise due to their varying nature in the archives.
Those sets are going to be jumbled releases anyway. The series are going to be incomplete unless they add the animations into them.
@@danjohnsonDW I'd be surprised if they did. More money to be made by releasing the animations as standalone affairs (he said, cynically!)
@@nickmellish I feel like that’s not the case. That to me is why they are holding back, because the collection has to be a whole series.
I just follow lots of people on Twitter and Instagram when something is announced everyone talks about it on their pages.
I recommend pre-ordering as soon as they become available to pre-order. That’s how I got them all except 12 which I found in Sydney.
How did that work, did you settle for a US version?
@@danjohnsonDW Sydney, Australia. Australia have the exact same Blu-Ray region as the UK. So for 12 they literally repackaged the UK version with a new slipcase with the Australian age rating on it. The discs inside were the UK ones. I got lucky to find it. 69 ASD or £200 online.
The rest I got pre-ordering on Amazon. I’m a UK resident who was in Australia as I’m a flight attendant. BBC still replaced the faulty discs too (OG release two discs had sound issues but the BBC replaced the discs on request with proof of purchase).
Totally agree with everything said, I only have a small collection and it is real hard to get hold of them if you don't get them straight away
I think that seasons 1-6 are on the cards, but they take longer because of the age of the stories.
My left ear loved this video, abit weird that your voice is only coming into my left ear with quiet music on the right. Other than that really good video!
I have no idea why it’s done that, I must of pressed something, that doesn’t normally happen.
Wait your supposed to have hearing in the left ear hmmmmm I’m gonna get that checked at some point
Thank you John it’s a shame about the lack quality with the US sets.
Lol well if you put it in layers of two then it’d be even, technically five wouldn’t be, but great vid 🙃
😂 I placed them like that because the 4 stacked would easily fall over and it was the best way to place the 5
One of the reasons I’m glad to be an American Whovian is that the Season box sets, despite the underwhelming packaging are cheap and look real nice on the shelf. To me, it’s somewhat worth the months of waiting after the UK fans get theirs
Be lucky. Since Amaon cancelled all orders out the UK due to Brexit, the box sets are hardly to get in continental Europe and prices are even higher.
@@Nikioko Well, they are suppossed to be limited edition 'UK' releases! With the small numbers available they shouldn't be sold outside the UK anyway.
The Documentary’s are lovely, but not worth the price if you have the dvds already.
anyone else have an issue with audio and picture being out of sync on the standard sets?
I've not experienced that. Where does it accrue?
Best idea is to pre-order and save ahead... as for the previous ones, yeah disgusting that people over charging!!
I brought the series 9 steal book years ago and iv never knew it is so rare damn
Yes I think I’m going to give HMV a go next time, even if it might not arrive on the release date.
well they have actually said there working on 60's who so we are getting the Hartnell and Troughton years it might just take a lot longer and pre covid we were getting 3 a year but 2 year is due to the fact were in A GLOBAL PANDEMIC so 2 a year ill happily take what we get.
It’s remarkable that they were able to get to much stuff for season 8 compared it was made during COVID

I know, I wanted to add I do like them at the end of each sentence. 😂
I pre order Season 8 last week really annoyed me one season I got in my self
Good luck with the others. I’m surprised you decided to start now.
"The Collection range of Doctor Who will be re-issued in standard packaging! The first titles to join this range will be Season 12 and Season 19, which are available to pre-order now."
Good chance to fill your gaps.
I’ve got the series 9 steelbook gonna be gutted if I didn’t sell it and they do a rerelease since the series 8 steelbook is out in April.
It’s still going to be a rare item, because they would change the cover art( probably)
@@danjohnsonDW true, i do love the artwork for the earlier steelbooks series 9 and 10 they are a lot better than the new ones. I’ve recently ordered the big finish Eccleston vinyls coming out. Think I’ve got a bit of a problem 😂

I remember in an interview one of the main people who make these boxsets said if you miss one then you should import them from the US so that kinda confirms there are no plans to rerelease them any time soon 🙄🥺

@@danjohnsonDW thankfully I have got them all 😅🙂 but I know eventually I’ll miss one or two but I think I’ll just import the American sets until they are eventually re-released 🙂😂😂
Well done on getting them all. That’s very good. I don’t want to get the American one because they look nothing like the amazing product we get.
Have you tried cex online
I have in the past and you can occasionally find them, at a high cost though.
If I had more of the DVDs when I brought them I may of done the same. I love them, but I also hate them.
Just preorder them for around £45.00
Even that doesn’t always mean you get it. I’ve seen lots of cancellations.
That would be a good time to release it. They may be animating MP as we speak.
Dan Johnson one can dream haha it’s seems like it’s a huge story and apparently they change costumes loads and has loads of people in it will take them awhile if done right could be a really great story
@@Budbrothers420 I haven’t “seen” it, but the sets and costumes look great and intricate.
I only got the seasons i didn't have the single dvds of. I got 18, 19 and 26. Best thing to do was just buy them when the preorders go up when they're about £39.99. Scalpers will be scalpers buy in bulk and sell for an astronomical price.
I pre order them all now, but at first I wasn’t fussed about the collection so missed the early ones.
@@danjohnsonDW I suppose it is down to taste, I had already finished about half of my collection by the time season 12 came out.
It would, I would like to have season 1 for the 60th, but there is definitely a lot to animate.
I had to pay £280 for season 10
It’s crazy, even crazier is that is somehow a fair price compared to others
@@danjohnsonDW Well it is just a personal preference. I prefer sealed because less chance of shelf ware and box damage.
@@danjohnsonDW Have checked completed sales of 19 on eBay in the last two weeks and opened ones have sold for between 60 and 80 quid.
@@danjohnsonDW Got standard 19 on pre order from Amazon but if I can pick up a LE set in the meantime I will and cancel my order.
The other sets I have managed to get at RRP.
Preorder 2 for £39.99, keep one sell other on ebay for £100 lol theycant release every one because there is some missing episodes!!
I don’t what they are gonna do about the early series because they will animate them for release. They are picking a lot of 2nd Doc stories at the minute so I’ll end up with two copies of those stories.
The collection has to be compete because that is the point of the name. For me I wouldn’t be that annoyed with two copies
I’ve never had that issue before, I don’t know why that happened. I may of accidentally slid the dial to left year on my audio track.
By 3p 🤣🤣🤣
Might be an understatement
@@danjohnsonDW Yes I fully agree with you. It’s an unfair way of funding a tv corporation in this day and age.
