I first heard Ween in the early 1990s and quickly recognized the undeniable genius. This tribute makes me smile double.

I picked up my things and went outside
A man that I loved up and died
I couldn't believe that after all of this time
I never knew the man but he was a good friend of mine
So long, i'll see you down that long dark river
Floating on that lining in the sky
I'm lucky, lucky enough to have heard you play your song
    So long, Jerry, so long
    Always be together
    Rolling down the track
    Always and forever
    Never lookin' back
I got my guitar and went to the river
Saw alot of people just dancin' around
I took off my shirt and jumped in the water
You always flew so high, now you've finally left the ground

A very, very dear friend of mine passed away today, and I haven’t been able to stop listening to this song. Every listen runs a montage in my brain of all my favorite memories with him. I will never be able to listen to this song again without thinking of him. Ween has been a staple in my life since I first discovered them nearly 20 years ago, and every song holds some kind of sentiment to it as the years have flown by. But this one has become the most important.
From one anonymous person to another, be sure to tell the people you love that you love them more often, because there comes a time when you won’t have a chance, and you don’t want to sit there wishing you said it more.
So Long, Matt. I’ll miss you dearly.

Fair enough question issacbateman76 I'll do my best to answer. No band will ever be as famous as the Beatles. It's just not possible. The Beatles laid the groundwork for every musical act ever to come. One could make an argument that the Dead laid the groundwork for all future live bands. Phish could easily slip into that conversation, Ween too. But the Beatles started it all and I'm forever grateful that they inspired the Dead, the Stones, Phish, Ween, Counting Crows, Sublime etc...

I like Ween better than The Beatles and I still love Beatles a lot. That said, The Beatles are and will always be the biggest band in history not beacuse they were are the most diverse or musically talented band of all time, but beacuse they were the biggest game changers and managed to strike in a historical context that will not be repeated.

From piss up a rope, to this. Honestly shocked me a little. Jerry was gone before my time but I listen to the dead/JGB daily. Listening to this song kind of reminds me of must’ve been the roses. Am I the only one?

It's nice to have my name in a Ween song title even if it's named after a famous person. I guess if I knew anyone and I was going somewhere they could play this for me.

The thing about Ween is they aren’t genre specific. They kill any genre they want. If they were a jamband they would have been one of the best jambands.

Different song, that wasn't a Ween cover. JRAD covered Dylan, "He Was A Friend of Mine" from 1962... But --it still has same effect! Cheers
