When Prof Wolff speaks it is like music to one's ears. This gentleman is doing a fantastic job at enlightening the masses and making them aware of many things that the authorities would prefer be kept secret. Kudos to the Professor for his amazing work.
this video should be deemed as 'required watching' for all of the 99%; Chris Hedges broached some very troubling but mightily important points about the future and the way forward; the US is easily the most totalitarian country in the world but is being cleverly disguised as a democracy, and the average citizen is blind-sided to this fact; just a few months ago we had a glaring example of this when the black American-born journalist Marijeh Hashemi, who works for Press TV/Iran and who lives in Iran came back to the US to visit her family and to cover the story on Ferguson and when she was leaving, was unceremoniously detained by the FBI and stripped of her rights; it was the most demeaning exercise that she was put through and who knows, she could well have disappeared had not some other folks like Cynthia McKinney and a few others knew of it and lobbied on her behalf.
Professor Wolff, if government is often just as inefficient as the private sector (as you point out correctly in this video), then perhaps the problem lies with the underlying system on which both of these sectors are based. Perhaps we need to change our world from a monetary-based system to one which revolves around the efficient and effective production, distribution, and consumption of resources. What do you think? Are you aware of the work of Jacque Fresco? He has a UA-cam channel called The Venus Project.
Fred A: Yuck. Why not organize our world around human values or art or farming or reducing destruction of our planet? Why organize our world around BUSINESS, CONSUMERISM, & the like at all?

Thank you Dr Wolff for a wonderful update and interview with Mr Edges. Both of you are voices of great integrity and a pleasure to listen too
you are amazing Dr Wolff. keep speaking the truth!
Destroy capitalism already.
yes, by consuming less of everything, as best as we can.
@@tamarajasinski820
While its of course true that the rich should consume less, the fight isn't to consume less per se, it's to expropriate socially-produced wealth now in the hands of the capitalist class and harness the intellectual and technological capacity we as humans now possess to create a world of true abundance and freedom.
Amazing episode. Thank you, democracy at work
My two favorite wise guys

Another great show.
Thank you for your service.
And still they say Socialism doesn't work, because it doesn't work FOR THEM !!!
On my second watch. These two men throw these facts to you, especially CH who does not serve pillows with his conversation, with the horror of a corporate controlled plutocracy. I feel deoressed when I listen, but you can't run away from what is in your face. Excellent program.
This one is packed with absolutely fantastic insights from both of you. A treasure to keep in hard drive it seems.

I agree completely! Greetings from Norway!
I saw a post on World Economics that showrs how China is building natural ways to funnel and slow , sink flood waters. They understand this is the best way to keep their people safer.
Amazing how even totalitarian rulers, see the merit in public safety.... I 'lived' there for 8 years
When I try to discuss the things that I have learned from Dr.Wolff and Chris Hedges( who cuts through the B.S like a laser beam), I get : "I don't want to hear it, I'm trying to watch the News!" Except for one person, a friend who is a Minister and a social worker, and a black man.He lives and works in Trenton,NJ. He has very little time to even discover something like EU, or to read Chris Hedges books, however our discussions have prompted him to look at this kind of information on UA-cam,so thank you for delivering a valuable public service!
Good work getting a minister to look into the work of Wolff and Hedges!
No better way to spend my time than listening to you and Chris, both my adulthood heroes Richard. Thank you so very much again for your contribution to my knowledge base Sir. Wade Goodwin, The FAIR Digest, South Africa
Chris’s perspective is so profoundly re-orienting in our propaganda-laden image-based society.
Once again Wolff puts his finger exactly on the problems if capitalism. His analysis here is brilliant. Listen to his analysis again. He has an excellent point of view .
Information is key. Will the public trade their reality television for something like this? Ignorance is dangerous and on the rise. Thank you Dr.wolf and Mr. Hedges! You are two powerhouses and are personal hero’s! Please continue to be a beacon for truth. Maybe they will listen, hope will never be totally dead even if capitalism is!
I've read so many articles debating whether Orwell's 1984 or Huxley's Brave New World were more relevant &/or prescient. Based on this discussion, it would appear that both scenarios are happening in tandem - very scary!
Dr.Wolff is the rated PG version, while Chris Hedges is the rated R version.

Chris hedges is a gem
On November 11, 2014, Hedges published an article explaining why he and his family have become vegan. He explained that this is "the most important and direct change we can immediately make to save the planet and its species". 🌿
@We are Doomed he means individually.
@We are Doomed no it won't have more of an impact compared to abolishing animal agriculture. If we start eating plant based at can free up an area the size of the African continent and allow for reforestation. Just think of the effect that can have.
@We are Doomed what are you talking about? Of course abolition of animal agriculture means changing the infrastructure. Did you not read my comment? It can free up an area the size of the African continent and allow for reforestation. Don't you realise that's a massive infrastructure change?
You're just wrong on this, you're making excuses to make yourself feel good while supporting animal ag.
I really dig your programs, prof. Wolff!
Hello comrades, time for another economic update.
I’m a conservative, but I will listen (and take seriously) the word of at Democracy at Work. Especially Richard Wolff!
Revolution has been never won with butter cups and Daisys.
Mandela, Gandi, Civil Rights movement & the protests that ended the Vietnam war...
Chris Hedges is our very own prophet of doom.
Dan Harris "prophet of doom" 😂😂 He does offer tiny glimmers of hope from time to time at the end of his books.
Dennis Loria Meh, I don't know if it will be the melting ice, or cruise missiles that end it all. I would start a pool, but there would be no one left to collect.
Chris is a realist!
@Dennis Loria If you are a fan of Prof Jeffrey D Sachs, you may have heard his talk on how America could overcome its ideological incoherence if 3.5% of the population were to become aware of and engaged in, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. This creates a template for real problem solving and restoring public interest-aligned politics.
When you look at his career it's not a surprise. He had reported from several wars. I hope his pessimism is misplaced.
Thank you Richard🌹👍✌️🇨🇦
Money is the new god. It is an end all that will end all.
And religion is tax free ! ;-)
Thanks for this.
They cannot stop speaking the truth. Brilliance upon brilliance. Who is failing to see the disaster and chaos that we live in? Surely, no one but the blind and corrupt. Bernie 2020 🔥
Thanks for revealing what actually is going on and how the people who are less able to afford a college education are left out of the equations of many colleges, if not all of them
Nelson: 51 colleges/Universities in the USA fund EVERY student they admit who has financial need, & NONE of their students have to take loans.
Americans born 1946 to 1995 have produced a 25% college/university graduation rate with LESS ADEQUATE scholarship availability!

Great Labor Day update thanks!
This is the guy(Hedges) that Hitchens called a hack? He is on the money (no pun) in this clip on capitalism.
Utterly brilliant, thank you Richard and Chris, bravo.
the rich are purging the poor
Troy: The poor neglect themselves instead of even bothering to read the health articles abd personal finance articles on their smartphones, which instead get used for playing video games and babysitting even babies under the age of 1.
I agree that the rich tend to exploit the poor. However, the rich DON'T have responsibilities to try to parent adults. There are MANY poor families that read and develop. Sone are still trying to recover from the Great Depression and having had males killed or disabled by war since the 1940s.
@@crusindc5282 whatever. it doesnt matter how much it is the poor person's fault, the system has been written by and for rich people. and against the poor. besides perfectly healthy people get cancer or have heart attacks or whatever.
but you make it sound so easy, when you goddamn know its not. besides that whole system you apparently believe in is about to come crashing down....AGAIN. im so fucking tired of people like you who blame the poor and imply or say outright, that the poor deserve to suffer. ridiculous.

Best Labor Day ever - a conversation between two of today's greatest minds. Thank you D@W, Dr. Wolff & Mr. Hedges. Bernie2020!
Any chance I can follow lectures of Dr Richard Wolff? He has a clear view on how economics work and what happens in other fields because of it
Wonderful show from top to bottom - thanks
I have to say, I miss the longer episodes. I subscribed to patreon so I could see them, but it's not exactly the same as one long episode like this.
Me to. I like Patreon a lot, but you can't send episodes to friends or repost them elsewhere, which really does seem like a drawback.
Michelle L, I have Patreon but I almost never go there.

Credentials.
Dr. Wolff can you discuss what you think of anarcho-syndicalism? It seems that a lot of the ideas of democracy at work draw from anarcho-syndicalism.
I think so too! I always wonder why Prof Wolff sounds so skeptical about anarchism when his description and defense of cooperatives echoes a whole boat load of anarchist writings, from Proudhon to the IWW. Is it because Marxists and anarchist have historically been at odds? I dunno, but, if so, I think we've moved way past that kind of division at this point.

Interesting mention of the drug companies sued by the State of New Mexico - I believe in a very recent court case in another state (Oklahoma), a judgment of over half a billion dollars was made against Johnson & Johnson (one of the companies mentioned here) over just this issue.
Amazing work professor!!💯💯
While this may sound cold and heartless, I just don't understand why anyone wants to live in places like Florida which get hurricanes pretty regularly. I feel bad for the people who don't have a choice like children and such but those that actively choose to move there, knowing full well of the hazards, really don't deserve sympathy. If you want to live in hazardous areas, prepare for it accordingly and you won't need all sorts of special help.
It's like moving right next to an active volcano and wondering one day why you have lava in the living room and when insurance or others are going to help bail you out. It's just a dumbass decision that shouldn't be enabled.
I live in florida. You name any place in the world thats exempt from natural disasters? I pay taxes and buy insurance for exactly this reason. If YOU get in a car wreck i will be just like you i will drive by and not help you.
@@earlviney5212 I know plenty of places besides florida that don't have hurricanes that swallow the state whole since it's mostly a peninsula. Car wreck is a pretty dumb analogy to go with, seeing as they happen...everywhere.
We love you Richard Wolff. Thank you for all you do and report and discuss critically and with a simple analysis that hits the nail on the head time and again. You are a light in the fog.
2:33 exactly markets are Ruthless !!!!!
Hookworm deserves an extra mention: Having it saps your energy and makes you listless. So the fact that people suffering from it are poor will be will be blamed on them being dumb or lazy or on drugs.
The 'Golden Rule' is slipping into obscurity!
Mr. Hedges. (no i did not just binge watch all this channel's content)
All true, what scummy system it really is, that's why i 64 only get 738 a month, PA usa,, dirt live, Both you both are what class what the world Should BE...

Two powerhouses of information, doesn't get any better than this
I hope you guys don't put some of your content behind a pay wall. For an organization supposed to commit to inform and educate the mass, this action is quite opportunistic to say the least.
Then donate via Patreon.
@@timekeeper2538 there are people who can't donate. I would argue that they need these information the most.
But what do I know. Maybe, some people need to get paid for their labor, which was their volunteer work previously. However, It's a slippery slope when an organization start to prioritize profit instead of other goals (such as education and informing the public).
