Hello friends!
Welcome to a post completion review of one of my recently finished diamond painting kits, "Dragon Princess" from Diamond Dotz and artist Renee Biertempfel. I'm impressed with the finished look of this kit, but I ran into some hiccups along the way. Having worked on other Diamond Dotz kits without these issues, I'm hoping this was just a fluke, but I'm still going to be completely honest with you about my personal experience with this kit.
Also, this was the dragon kit I completed during March towards my personal goal of completing one dragon kit per month throughout 2024 (The Year of the Dragon). I can't wait to share my thoughts with you about this kit today!

This was the first Diamond Painting I ever finished. I completed it in 2019 and then got addicted to Diamond Painting and DD and DAC. Love it so much!
“I thought it would be fun…. It wasn’t fun” I laughed 😂
I think it turned out really good! Thanks for an honest review!
This is beautiful. The printed background is perfect as a partial. It brings the focus back to the details in the dotted work. I agree the price is high for a partial. I have liked my Diamond Dotz kits (meh on the fabric texture though). I do think I have more trash drills with DD than other premium kits. Thanks for the totally honest review. Even with problems, it is a gorgeous addition to your dragon projects.
Thanks so much for your honesty! It did turn out beautifully, though
Goodness! You got a good deal. Looking it up it is over $100 everywhere now! It does look pretty finished
I have this kit in my stash. I think you did a beautiful job! Just looked at my canvas which is also a partial. In addition to the background, the face, neck and hands are to be without drills.
Thanks for the heads up regarding running out of drills. I will keep your issues in mind.
Katie I think you should start an Amazon live chat and tell them what happened. Let Amazon contact the vendor. I’ve had great success with them when a name brand item went faulty. I got no where with the company’s customer support but when I got Amazon involved things happened very quickly and to my satisfaction. They may send you a whole new kit. Secondly do you have any anti static powder that is used for heat embossing? That will remove the sticky on your edges. You could also use talc but I doubt anyone has that in their medicine cabinets anymore. I think corn starch would work. Just take a Q tip and dip it in the corn starch and run it along the glue and brush off the excess. Your sticky edges will be gone forever.
My very first diamond painting was a partial from Diamond Dotz. It was enough to get me addicted!
I think this canvas turned out beautifully! I’ve worked on a handful of Diamond Dotz kits and have been very happy with how they turn out. I’ve never had any issues with running out of a color or anything. I definitely think it was a fluke.
I love how this looks as a partial! Bummer about the other issues, though.
Thank you for sharing, Katie. This painting turned out beautifully! I have only completed one Diamond Dotz kit and I was a little upset when I got home and found out it was a partial. I am not a fan of partials. It did turn out beautiful as well and their drills are super sparkly but it also had a lot of trash drills. Thankfully, I didn't run out of any colors. Hope you have a great weekend and a Happy Easter!
Its really beautiful and no it wouldnt deter me because I have worked on DD myself and like you have never had a problem like this before. I would wait to see if I had problems like this again before I would do a little head tilt. I agree with you. I was tempted to buy this myself.
Outcome is beautiful!!
I’m a little worried about running out on my current DP, so I feel your pain!!
That turned out beautifully. I’ve only completed one kit from them and I was not thrilled with the glue backing that was used. I had drills sliding everywhere. I will say I was newer to painting when I did that one but still I have not tried another one. I might try one just to compare. Always appreciate your honest opinions.
Katie! Thanks for reviewing Princess Dragon. I did this kit last summer, my first non-budget kit and big ine. I love it too! My biggest concern is the same as you, that extra glue around the drilled area. I do want to hang this up. Wondering if Dry mounting would work for this and what to do about the extended glue. If you one. any ideas and time permits I would love to hear your thoughts.
It turned out really nice, but not exactly on the cheap side for a partial. I’m really picky about holes and trash with my drills. I guess I’m just surprised there was no room for error on some colors. But it did turn out lovely 😊
Beautiful painting
Thanks so much!!
Thank you for sharing! $107 for a partial is just ridiculous, though. Especially to have issues with it, too.
I am a newbie. I am on my 5th smaller project. This is a gorgeous painting! Looking forward to doing a larger canvas. I have finished 2 from Diamond Dots. Looking forward to learn more😊👍
It turned out beautifully and I have wanted to try a partial.
I am often 'distracted' by the printed background of a partial. But with this one, I really had to look where the diamonds ended. Beautiful painting, good job!
Hi Katie, beautiful canvas. Love Asian art. Shame about running out of drills.
I think the finished product turned out beautifully!
I didn't realize that Diamond Dotz had an amazon storefront. Thank you!
The completed canvas is beautiful. I've completed 3 diamond dotz kits with no issues. I love how sparkly the DD drills are.
I'm sorry to hear that you did not have a great experience with this particular item. However, I personally like the end product, as the image is of a different kind of dragon. I am excited to start working on the Masterclass Diamond Dotz kit that I have, as I have never completed one of theirs before.
Yep! My sister said after doing a diamond dot. canvas if that had been her first she probably wouldn’t have DP’d again due to the high level of trash drills in their kits! This image was one she would life to do it refuses ever do another Diamond Dotz kit. 😢
Turned out beautiful. I have a bunch of Diamond Dotz kits and have loved them all - even the ones that can be purchased in Walmart stores. My favorite finish is also a partial - Garden in Gold - my goodness it’s pretty! DD drills have amazing sparkle, and I do save my leftovers and separate by company (ie: DAC, Amazon, Diamond Dotz, etc).
I have done 3 DD painting and have had no trouble, their diamonds are so sparkly. I would definitely contact them, you always say we should give them polite comments.
Katie. I am glad to here you liked the finished product. I would still contact Amazon and Diamond Dots on the issues you had.
I have this kit in my stash. The dress she is wearing in called a Hanfu. I am currently working on the Diamond Dot Kit, Lilycorn; and have run into quite a few trash drills including those with holes. Extra pieces stuck on, and with one color they are in connected pairs. More trash drills than any other kit from any other company. I too have a concern with glue on partials going well past the drill area. I have sealed full drill paintings, but not a partial. If you seal this one please let us know how it turns out.
It is beautiful. 😮
DD quality: got a kit from them at Joanne's in 2020. It was my first DP. Drill quality was good, but some of the drills seemed more of a matte finish and didn't sparkle so much. The finished project was great despite this. I recently bought a couple more kits from them for summer with the masters, so I cannot yet comment on drill quality for them.
It is a beautiful kit!
I’ve always had great experiences with diamond dotz. They’ve been around for a long time and are reliable and affordable. I still find myself reaching for them from time to time. I hate you had a bad experience and hopefully it’s just a fluke. I’ll continue to buy from and recommend this brand especially for beginners
Wow with all those issues with this kit. I hope it doesn't mean this brand is going downhill. I ran out of drills recently on 2 of my kits so I'm also trying to start saving my leftover drills now. Here comes another project!
I have this kit and bought it from Amazon as well. I am quite concerned. I will have to open it and take a look at the drills 😮
Diamond Dotz drills are resin so they have a different look than acrylic drills. And the tiny holes are common. I’ve just ignored them, and had no problem.
Just checking to see if you contacted them and if they are willing to send extra before I purchase one.
This is a beautiful kit. I went on Amazon to their store front to buy it..... but why is it priced at 107.00 dollars!!! 😮😮😮 With the issues you just had
I think not, but it is beautiful.
I would love to see this as a full drill
I bought this diamond painting at craftwearhouse for 30.00 today!! Originally 99.99
FyI: Got mine on Amazon too, ran out of 1 color, DD honored the warranty and sent me more.
my diamond dots partial didn’t have glue in some areas :(
I’m hesitant to buy Diamond Dotz. I have a family member that tends to always have trouble with them. Also….I need a sticker sheet that they don’t seem to provide. It’s a gorgeous canvas though.
I would definitely not buy from them. I feel like nobody should run out of supplies especially with the price. I had the same thing happen to me with Oraloa😢
That’s really expensive for a partial. It doesn’t seem huge to me.
Makes you wonder if it was a Diamond Dotz knock off??
