Nice video! I've been working at a fast food joint for 2 years now and I remember being really frustrated when dealing with mean customers. Now I've realized there will always be mean people, but there are also super kind customers that should outweigh bad experiences.

I work as a sales associate and I am on a cashier's 8, hours a day all day long it's not that bad but my line is only one that is open its busy most of the time but does get slow when it does that when I take a smoke break I think it's fun lol but you do get people that want to argue with you most of the time they won't listen to me and say they want to talk to my manager but just don't argue with them I don't and they just get mad and leave

I love the phrase 'kill them with kindness'! Definitely my motto when I worked in retail! And definitely agree with getting a large variety of responsibilities to keep things interesting! I had a great time working in tesco but mostly because I tried to make the best of it :) a positive attitude works wonders! x

    1) Love your doe eyes!
    2) Love your accent!! Haha
    3) I too work in retail, and I completely agree with everything you said. It's really only as fun as you make it. I often times play that game of extreme niceness. And sometimes I just act as if I'm a completely different person, and that I'm acting the role of some super duper really eager sales girl. Haha Anyways, loved the video!

Why shouldn't you be enthusiastic about this? This is a part of your life right now, even if it is temporary. I really like your videos about working in retail. When I first started working as a cashier I watched your older videos about this and found them really helpful.

I've worked in retail for the past 9 months (although not my first retail job, sigh, lol) and like you I enjoy it so much more after getting more responsibility. Liking the people that you work with helps a ton as well. The customers......pffftt.... you just have to laugh really don't you!! If I'm dealing with someone terrible I definitely take the "kill em with kindness" attitude and think about how it's going to be a good story to tell later xD

I like this video since it illustrates a universal truth to work in that YOUR attitude towards a task is the determining factor in it being hell or fun and rewarding. Once you decide that jobs are not dead-end and that you can try and improve the process for your clients, it actually gets easier for you as well.
Yes you will have customers that are difficult but they can be the most rewarding when you meet the challenge of turning a bad transaction around. People like you will go far in life!

Ugh yes, all of this, soo true. I'm in my 3'rd year too, but I got a crapload of responsibilities right away, so working in retail is not just working in retail, lol. But yeah, I have been mentally and physically drained for over a year now, and you Are right. We focus way too much on the negative side of our jobs. Thanks, Ena, I think I'll be going to work with a different mindset tomorrow. Atleast I'll try ;)

I was lucky in that when I started my retail job I was among the oldest people there (I was 19...) so I almost immediately got responsibilities and a lot of different things to do. However, after working there for almost two years I was in charge of the fruit and vegetable department, so it was back to monotony. Apples and lettuce day in and day out. So don't get too good at one thing, they'll just make you do that all the time!

I just started my job in what I guess might be considered retail. They place me in shops and let me hand out taste samples and try to sell a product. I just love talking to people and selling stuff so I really expected to love the job from the very start, and so I did xD Even though it's 6 hours straight standing and smiling I just love it. And I totally get the kill them with niceness thing, though I also have to try to convince them to buy what I'm selling so it's a little different. ^^
