excellent demo. I have purchased an FS3 and should have it in a few days. It is a wonderful guitar. I have an FGX5 already and have been thoroughly impressed. I play a smaller body guitar much less often so I opted for the less expensive 3 model made at the Yamaha factory in China. I trust Yamaha more than most companies when it comes to quality control in their Chinese facilities.
@@TWC6724 I have had the pleasure of playing the FS3 for a couple of weeks now. Of course, I don't have an FS5 to compare it to, but I do have the FGX5 to compare esthetics and craftsmanship. First off, the 3 has a three piece neck (heel, stem, headstock) whereas the 5 has a two piece (heel join). The bridge, nut and bridge pins on the 3 are plastic. The 5 has bone and ebony. Yes, there is a difference. I changed the plastic on the 3 for bone and ebony and noticed an appreciable difference. The construction is similar on both guitars, but the 5 has much more attention to detail. The fret dressing and neck in general feels so much better on the 5. For me, the neck's the thing! The 5 has ARE and logo engraved on one of the braces (classy touch). The 3 has it on the red label. Big deal? No. Just different. The 5 sounds 'better'. Yes, it sounds deeper and bigger, but that goes to size. The quality of the sound goes to construction methods. Bottom line, both are extremely great value for money. I am very happy to have the 3. It's a wonderful guitar that is very well finished and contruction is as good if not better than anything in it's price range or even higher than it's price range. I compare it to my Taylor 614 (thousands more) and it holds its own. It's not better, but it hangs in there! I own a very good Martin 000-18, and the Martin sounds more luxorious, deeper and fuller, but that 3 has an upper mid punch that is very satisfying in many circumstances. I can see both sitting well in a mix together. The 5 is a beast. I would have liked to have an FS5, but I could not find one. There were some from Japan dealers but I sensed a lot of gouging going on. Hope that helps. I am not a professional assessor, just a player!
@@haldumille5594 thanks for the detailed critique. I was about to purchase a Red Label FSX3 but saw a few videos recommending the 5 instead. If you were to do it all over again, would you still opt for the the 3 (Chinese made) vs 5 (made in Japan)? Thanks again.
That's the problem with relying on a demo; it's not a review. A review is done by someone who has no stake in the thing reviewed and who is therefore unbiased and will point out the negatives as well as the positives of the reviewed item. It's based on fairness. A demo is done by someone who will be paid from the sale of the thing reviewed and typically shows off the item in a good light without ever pointing out any faults. It's based on profit. Demos really used to bother me until I realized this. Now I just take what I can from them instead of expecting them to be fair. And I never buy a product through the demo'er's website. My two cents.
I'm not interested in the electronic versions. I did play an FS5 this week and was floored by it, but the cost was $1500. I'm wondering if the FS3 sounds as good? It is the same specs as the FS5 but about $600 cheaper. I know that the FS3 comes with a bag instead of a hard case, and that the nut and saddle are urea instead of bone, but are the other differences in price really just a matter of what country they are made in? That's insane!
My Taylor 214ce cost $50 more than my new Yamaha FGX3, had laminate back and sides, cheaper tuners and sounded shallow in comparison. The Taylor was quickly traded for the Yamaha. The Yamaha is far superior in every way. Also beats the $1000 Martin's hands down. Can't go wrong with Yamaha.

I would love to know what you think about the FS3. I would love to get one. Is the quality any different than the Japan made version?

@@haldumille5594 Thank you. Just the information I was looking for. Appreciate your time.

I've had my FSX3 for a few days, and it is very fine.
I've had mine a couple of months, and it is superb. Haven't touched my Collings OM1.
Really? is that great?
Thank you. That was Awesome. I'm ordering my FS3 next week.
Good comparison...excellent playing....thanks for posting.
Good job... Why don't people like a reasonably priced all solid wood guitar?
They're just mad they spent $3K and it doesn't sound this good.
Really nice playing, very nice new Yamaha.
Expensive microphone, EQ'd, compressed, reverb added. More like a mixed demo than an accurate sound demo

is this more a 00 or 000 in size?
000
thanks@@mt-nv4jd
Would you recommend this over the martin road series 000?

no talking but all we hear is the music in the background with tone of compression and reverb
Watch the whole video. It's only like that for the first part.

졸라 땡큐 ~
Really irritating backing track....sorry. Otherwise real nice guitar..
Tabs for songs played?
Your backing track is too loud.
First 2 minutes are pointless, but I enjoyed the rest
Made in???
Japan
All solid, made in Japan and a decent price.
Ok! Very good!
FG5s are made in Japan whereas FG3s are made in China as per Yamaha Global Website. Both these series looks and sounds steller! Hope that helps.
3 in China. 5 in Japan.
Useless with the overbearing background noise.
