As Ian says, there is a serious bug with the firmware and DJI have not addressed it despite hundreds of complaints and numerous posts on the DJI forums with loads of people also losing drones due to this issue. Same. And when I can't get any v1 gear I will switch over to walksnail. Sure, an ugly box may look like crap but it's still better than a company telling me that I should check antennas when their junk falls out of the sky all over the place.
Thank you Ian! I'm currently building my first FPV drone (Geprc Mk V) with an O3 air unit and I gambled on going with the Goggles 3 in the hope that it would provide for some future proofing with the O4 air unit immanent. I hope I didn't place a bad bet, but it's possible. I'm an engineer and I know one when I see one. I think you've provided the best diagnosis of the issue that I've seen yet. I've been closely monitoring the DJI forums topic about this issue and while I've seen some real good effort put forward there to diagnose the problem, they seem to be wandering about quite a bit in putting their finger on the issue. You've popped in there and tried to provide some needed guidance back to the real issue. I hope DJI are listening to you. They really should listen and I suspect they actually know, by now, exactly what the root cause of the problem is and are working to resolve it. I do fear that the may be a bit hesitant to release an immediate fix because that would provide temporal evidence that they caused some not-insignificant amount of property loss as a result of this bug. But maybe that is the cynic in me coming out. Any way, keep up the good work! You are making a difference even for us noobs.
Yes - my sentiments exactly. I have a fleet of DJI v1 gear and recently bought the G3 when O3 support came out along with my first O3 drone (Neebeedrone). They are still sitting in the boxes as I refuse to fly with unsafe firmware. I skipped v2/Integra/G2 and won't go with those goggles. DJI v1 has served me well, but the longer this goes on with G3/O3 issues, the more I'm questioning if I have chosen the right digital transmission vendor.
@@stevefpv I bought G3 before the flaws were known with use with the O3. I have a limited drone budget and don't want to have to buy G2/Integra/v2. Lost video with Goggles 3 on a 03 air unit 3 different times. DJI is looking at my log files now. 1st two with old firmware. 1st time Goggles went black causing a crash while in a low banked turn just above small tress. 2nd fail just took off heading off a beach over the ocean. Luckily! Came back on after a few seconds. Last time was about to land after a long range flight that was only 100 feet or so away from me in the mountains with no interference. Ironically each fail was using the same 6S 9000mAh Li-Ion Battery. Has not failed with any other or li-po battery choice. Not sure if that triggers the problem more? Was at 3.10 V with lots of battery left. Each fail for me was in close range. We almost lost the drone on the last one. Hit RTH and it was flying away fast!. Lost visual for a bit. Friggin scary to say the least! lol Was glad I was in the mountains with less things at risk. On afterthought, Killing the motors may have been a better choice! Great video. 100 comments in 8 hours! The DJI O3 system with V2 goggles has struggled before with link recovery, but this is more severe and affects DJI's latest flagship products. Safety critical and embarrassing.
Certainly glad I held off using all this, as I had a feeling this might happen. Downgraded 03 firmware in my quads just for good measure when this all kicked off. Cheers, Ian!
Hope they fix it soon... I've assembled a fleet of O3 equipped quads in the past couple months that I fly with the Goggles 3 so this is a bummer to learn.
I have updated 17 of my 19 quads with the 03 air unit to fly with the Goggles3. Before these warnings, I have been flying my quads out over the ocean, had great range, no signal issues, no black screens of death, and now this shit is happening and I'm not keen to risk flying further with the G3 and 03 combo till DJI can give us a guaranteed patch. Seems pretty clear to me that they lacked due diligence testing the firmware update. I agree with Ian, it's just not safe to fly with G3 and 03 at this time.
So, in theory, if you're flying O3/Goggs3 and lose the link then your system could start stomping all over the band and affect (stomp on) anyone else you might be flying with at the time?
@@justade3707 I can confirm this. I see precisely the same behaviour. Also, if I am flying with my O3 and Goggles 3, when my friend starts his Avata 2, my connection goes so bad that I can not fly anymore.

I even used it in my 2weeks holiday to Vitenam, and thank god, no issues were met.. but now, I'm afraid to use it and I don't know what to do.. I guess I'll fly only my Caddx Vista quads..until a fix is released..
I've just finished building my third fpv racing drone this time with O3 unit goggles 3, and controller 3. Everything works perfectly, and I was going to test it outdoors when I saw your warning. I am not going to fly the drone until this huge issue is resolved. Please do let DJI know about it 🙏
I have fly more than 300 times the 03 and the goggles 3 have not have any issues i do fly olmos every day this set up and no problem live in usa territory
My iFlight Nazgul DC5 ECO with an O3 air unit fell from 6' onto the concrete road right after takeoff because the image in my goggles blacked out (it did not freeze). Once the image blacked out, I immediately disarmed and the image came back on. I have it set to auto-record and the video saved to the drone but not the goggles (so no OSD unfortunately). I was using the Goggles 3 with a Radiomaster TX16S Mark II transmitter. I was alone in a field.
Well this sucks. I love my goggles 3 fit and feel. In stock form I can see 90 - 95% of the screen vs my Integras I have to run super thin foam with the nose cut out so I can get my eyes close as possible to point where my eyelashing are touching. The goggles 2 are worse, and the Walksnail V1 and Walksnail X also have this issue but no way to get close enough to see over about 85% of the screen(corners mostly). My HDZero goggles probably rank 3rd vs all the others mentioned, coming in right behind the Integras. Then there is the comfort which the goggles 3 have locked down, they almost feel GOOD to wear.
I never had the issue with the wallsnail v1 (fatshark), but my goggles 2 were unbearable with the stock foam. Better with other foam, but it's a fine balance of trying to be comfortable and seeing the whole screen. Goggles 3 are by far the most comfortable for me as well (stock). Now I'm afraid to use them...
I had the same issue with goggles. With the GX I resolved buying the original thin foam. It’s not so comfortable like the one that comes with the goggles, but I can see clearly almost all the screen.
Nicee. Thanks for that update. I was worried for a sec, because mine are showing up today lmao. I'm gonna leave the drone in my living room, and drive down the road till connection loss, then see if it reconnects when I get back in range.
Well crap. Picked up the Goggles 3 in July to use with my Air3, I was looking at ordering the 03Air Unit for my planes but I guess I'll wait. Thanks the for video brother! I appreciate the hard work. I'll wait along with you to see what DJI does about it.
I also bought the Goggles 3 together with the Air 3 and I am very disappointed about the Goggles 3. The Air 3 with the RC 2 is great, but I have a list of 8 issues when I use the goggles. Now I ordered the O3 Air Unit for a new plane and then I found out that it is not safe to fly this combination. Oh no, DJI! The Goggles 3 are a complete failure so far.
I have the latest firmware and have flown over 20 packs 4mins each and no issues so far. Previously I have had the signal drop and I get a black screen on my goggles and comes back after a few seconds when the drone is on flight and this happened once in a while and I dont have to disarm or anything. This usually happens after arming the quad within the first 15 seconds on my goggles 3 and o3 air unit. it doesnt happen often but once in a while. But since I have updated the firmware I have had no issues
@@moshecohen4029 yes I see the OSD battery voltage and the FC arm command to the O3 is fine otherwise I wouldn't be able to fly lol. I make sure I go over the basics really well, check the wiring connections of the O3 and the FC and as well as the antennas which have come off lose before.
That black screen is not video loss. I would like to see a video where you get signal back without disarming. Arm the quad and walk away till you lose signal, then come back.
have been an owner of DJI equipment for some time now and with all due respect to the DJ, I see that what was and what is now are two completely different companies, the brand is no longer used and not the desired equipment, only the sale is important to you , not customer satisfaction and his opinion.
Thank Ian for your dedication on this issue! Cause is such a serious issue and Dji must take it into consideration! Also, can you suggest any good alternative VTX to fly with?
Wouldn't be surprised if we got the O4 Air unit before we get this bug patched. But for those losing entire drones to this issue, why aren't you running GPS chips with Return To Home configured?
Why do people like you comment with this ignorant type of reply? Good for you but FPV communities are littered with stories of this bug. It happened to me twice during my first 25 flights with the G3 and it's not user error. I have to use my Integras now. Why post your stupid reply when it will just help DJI feel like it isn't a huge issue keeping your drones at risk of this bug? You and everyone else acting like this isn't a problem need to shut the fuck up and stop trying to defend DJI like they are your mother so they can quickly realize this is a big problem and fix it ASAP.
thank you for the great info! I have the iFlight Nazgul Evoque which I have only just got recently so only took her out once. Using with googles 3, RC3, and the iFlight uses the O3 unit. So basically don't fly until this issue is addressed right? Does it matter which RC you use, or is it more the goggles 3/O3 unit problem?
I have G3 with O3, but i bought goggles V2 for 260€ (second hand, but still very good) in order to this problem and to get compatibility with vista and analog
Hate to tell you, but I don’t have this problem. Powered up, even put a little bit of throttle, went into the basement. Range is fantastic btw… had to cover up antennas by my hands to lose a signal. Lost a signal- couple of steps back and it was on again…. I tried manual and auto channel selection. Latest firmware. Go figure… 🤷🏻♂️ I have a FCC hack though
Many of you have heard about the goggles 3 randomly disconnecting from the DJI air 03 unit. I have been saying to anyone that will listen that I am having the same thing occur with the goggles 2 with no warning. It has occurred with GEPRC Mark 5 that luckily had a return to home feature. It has occurred yesterday with a a brand new Flywoo Explorer LR that also luckily had a return to home feature. It happened this morning with a Cinelog 30 and fell directly to asphalt ruining a Remote ID Module and a 1300 6S lipo. It has even occurred with a new GEPRC Cinelog 25 V2 dropping directly to the ground. I also had it happen on a Flywoo 75 and broke the air unit. Hopefully they get this figured out or I will just end up putting GPS/Return to home features even on my tiny cinewhoops. These aren't anywhere out of range and occur where I consitently fly with zero issues....
After all these problems, I only have one question, and that is to know if the Betaflight version could have some kind of influence on this, and I would like to know if this happens to people who use the betaflight version 4.4 and 4.5?
Bummer ....maybe something broke when it was taken apart and put it back together. Or a different batch/version of the firmware that's pushed around the world. Thanks for sharing....
So I've got this issue due-to the flight in about 500 meters away from me. Before that drone was able to get 2,5 km with link speed down to 5 mb/s (because of obstacles) and get back to 50 mb/s. And I've got freeze at 25 mbit :). RTH works fine (I tested before the flight. So I was ready for that) and I was able to rebot unit in the flight (I do have power managment for VTX on board). Unit was able to reconnect. But was started in low power mode (as before arming). But it's OK to get home
@@larsfranzen511 I do have power switch on my FC (Mamba one). You can VTX power on and off from the radio. But it should not be DJI RC. But O3 will start in low power mode. Because it will not recieve ARM trigger.
So.. my brand new $600 Goggles 3 are basically unusable? I bought them to use with 03 air units. Actually I bought them to hopefully hand new 04 air units if/when they come out.. was hoping sooner than later we'd see 04 air units that work with the 04 sync stuff and provide smaller yet more capable camera as well. Will there be a firmware update that resolves this or is this unfixable.
Cool i bought 2 O3s and a Goggles 3 right after they announced the compatibility patch and now im Stuck here with over 1000$ worth of unsafe tech trash? You gotta be joking ... It's been my first goggles too, it's not like i have a backup >_>
great vid, i was going to buy the dji v3 but im not know, my jets are to expensive to take a chance on something that fails, could you recommend a safe and reliably setup, thanks
ATENTION ! We should all write a comments about this issue in all dji youtube video coments pages to escalate it, cause they doing nothing at this time
Thanks a lot for the deep dive! Great content! Can you elaborate more on this "An important note is that when the O3 Air Unit is not armed via MSP the connection will reconnect as it should at all times." I have the DJI FPV Remote Controller 3, does this mean the O3 units that are flewn by RC3 is not impacted by this issue? I'm holding off on buying Mobula8 because of this.
Haven’t lost one yet only flying where I know I can retain it. I have had all updates for about a week now and had several black outs I would say I get them about 50% of the time. I’m in USA does the fcc or ham hack apply will it help?? DJI come on you have been so reliable for years please fix this I don’t want to fly the vistas anymore I want to fly the latest gear. Please fix this soon and also release the 04 system so we have another opinion besides the Avata 2.
If soon ypu mean sometime next year then yes. Internal information is that the O4 au is delayed and not a priority right now. Their working on the Air 3S and Mavic 4 right now.
If i updated the goggles2 and o3 in my quads to the latest soft, the one that enables cimpatibility with goggles3 (v....03) is there a possibility of that issue and shuld I downgrade?
Interesting, i was about to ask if thats happening even on manual channel selection. But you already said that they are actually communicating and its the authentication/handshake between them not working.
Thanks for this important advice. For O3 unit, would it be safer to revert prior to the firmware update for goggles 3? Its scary if even Goggles 2 and integra has also connection problem. Thanks
Yes u right DJI is playing with ppl health and safety! UAV is not a toy! They should not bring untested products to the market, they should not safe money by putting in danger everyone, thye should pay enough to employee for testing their products !
This happened to me too! DJI you need to fix this! Stop with the bullshit generic customer service responses and get this issue addressed. No one should buy the Goggles 3!
Hello, I have a technical question about signal transmission. When I use DJI Goggles 3 and a regular controller, like the basic stick controller, the signal transmission to the drone is carried out through the goggles. But what happens if I add, for example, the DJI RC 2 controller, which has strong antennas? Does everything still go through the Goggles 3, or is the controller's transmission power used as well, or is the transmission from it turned off? I'm looking for the greatest possible range Thanks in advance.
the goggles go directly o the video tx"r, while the radio Tx"r goes directly t0 the receiver. they both do different things and are on 2 completely different paths
When you lose link to 03. No matter what googles your using you will be disarming and crashing. 03 always takes too long to reconnect to stay in the air!!!😁
So glad I didn't pull the trigger on the goggles 3, what a waste of money that would have been. With DJI its never a good idea to be first adopter.... Takes them quite a while to get all the kinks ironed out.
@@FlowmadFPV I've found a couple folks saying it was right after taking off....guess my o3 quad is grounded until they fix this...question is how long before I swap that one back to HDZero

I'm using the integras with the 03 a week after bought my goggles started to go blank for like 3 seconds. I sent it back to dji. They fixed it and problem still there. I blanks but it comes back right away. Keeps flying and happens randomly. Sent video to dji I don't know if they are going to fix them.

Initial signal loss has nothing to do with range most likely, especially considering it doesn’t reconnect at a closer proximity
I had video loss with Gogs 2 & O3 but I came back no problem.
I've just finished building my third fpv racing drone this time with O3 unit goggles 3, and controller 3. Everything works perfectly, and I was going to test it outdoors when I saw your warning. I am not going to fly the drone until this huge issue is resolved. Please do let DJI know about it 🙏
Mads debugs problems faster than DJI itself 💀
I use dji 03+goggles3+TBS rc, when the goggles3 disconnect and immediately reconnect with no problem, the flight to the mountain is 6km
I have fly more than 300 times the 03 and the goggles 3 have not have any issues i do fly olmos every day this set up and no problem live in usa territory
That's my experience so far with an 03 air unit/goggles3 as well. I even lost signal (my fault), and then as got closer, it reconnected.
@@steigjThan your O3 is not getting the arm command from the FC
I've had one or 2 black screens but flown easily over 400 packs with no issues
Thanks for your awesome work!
Reboot vtx with PIT mode switch. helps to get back and reconnect. (if using not DJI RC link)
For the relevance you should list FW versions on the description
It’s not so comfortable like the one that comes with the goggles, but I can see clearly almost all the screen.
using since compatibility update with zero problems
Any issue?
Nicee. Thanks for that update. I was worried for a sec, because mine are showing up today lmao. I'm gonna leave the drone in my living room, and drive down the road till connection loss, then see if it reconnects when I get back in range.
Well crap. Picked up the Goggles 3 in July to use with my Air3, I was looking at ordering the
03Air Unit for my planes but I guess I'll wait.
Your O3 must be not getting the arm command from the FC. Do you see the drone battery voltage on the O3 built in OSD (bottom right)?
Just my luck. I literally just bought the Goggles 3 and the O3 Air unit last night. I don’t even have them yet.
DJI have a fix coming for this. See singfays live stream. It will be out hopefully in the next 2 weeks.
I fly every day with the 03 air unit and goggles three and I can say I’ve never had any issues
I also had goggles 2 on latest 1.0.01 not reconnect to vista mid air and resulted in qwad in the ocean.
I have G3 with O3, but i bought goggles V2 for 260€ (second hand, but still very good) in order to this problem and to get compatibility with vista and analog
good diagnostic work!
Remember when everything was compatible with everything, video wise?
Never gonna quit analog....
New Firmware Released Today 16.10.2024
V01.00.500
so goggles V2 still king for FPV?
Hi Ian, Any update on this issue? I almost pushed the button on a BOB57 when I was told about this issue.
Maybe the AU has amnesia. It's hopping around "looking for Mama", but can't remember what she looks like.
Lost mine yesterday, found this video today :(
After all these problems, I only have one question, and that is to know if the Betaflight version could have some kind of influence on this, and I would like to know if this happens to people who use the betaflight version 4.4 and 4.5?
You rebooted your o3 unit in flight? How is that possible?
Also the goggles integra has an issue with Avata2. Menu pops up in view while flying blocking view.
Cool i bought 2 O3s and a Goggles 3 right after they announced the compatibility patch and now im Stuck here with over 1000$ worth of unsafe tech trash? You gotta be joking ... It's been my first goggles too, it's not like i have a backup >_>
Exact same for me! Feels so bad
great vid, i was going to buy the dji v3 but im not know, my jets are to expensive to take a chance on something that fails, could you recommend a safe and reliably setup, thanks
Ty for making this video! Monitoring
Analogue for the win! 😎😘
Well fuck, my goggles 3 and O3 air unit just arrived yesterday 🙃 I guess I'll just set up a failsafe with RTH and hope for the best
That's what I did no lost signal so far what about you?
Failsafe works only in RF signal lost not Goggles 3.
@@MichasWelt Not if you activate GPS rescue when the black screen of death appears.
Omfg Lucknto you mate.
Goggles 4 pro will be the best. Can't wait!!!😂😂😂
I had it with Goggles V2 but after 7 minutes GPS rescue it reconnected - with Goggles 3 Did not reconnect :(
Excellent analysis! Spread the info people! Too much $$$ lost.
Did this issue got resolved after updating firmware??
ATENTION ! We should all write a comments about this issue in all dji youtube video coments pages to escalate it, cause they doing nothing at this time
I just did an official ticket referencing this video and the dji thread! Everyone should do so! Im returning goggles 3 soon if they dont fix.
@madstech - I wonder if the newer fpv controller still has the same “rx loss” that the previous controller had with O3?
I heard that there was some updates that rolled out today, do you have any idea if they fixed the issue or not?
Thanks a lot for the deep dive! Great content! Can you elaborate more on this "An important note is that when the O3 Air Unit is not armed via MSP the connection will reconnect as it should at all times." I have the DJI FPV Remote Controller 3, does this mean the O3 units that are flewn by RC3 is not impacted by this issue? I'm holding off on buying Mobula8 because of this.
As far as I understand it, the issue occurs in armed state - I would assume it doesn't matter how the armed state is achieved.
How about the DJI integra, is there a problem with these?
Haven’t lost one yet only flying where I know I can retain it. I have had all updates for about a week now and had several black outs I would say I get them about 50% of the time. I’m in USA does the fcc or ham hack apply will it help?? DJI come on you have been so reliable for years please fix this I don’t want to fly the vistas anymore I want to fly the latest gear. Please fix this soon and also release the 04 system so we have another opinion besides the Avata 2.
I'll switch to digital when Open IPC is rolling. It's looking amazing.
Until then ANALOGUE 4me.
Does the goggles 2 with O3 have the same issue?
Some say they are having this issue. Just use the O3 firmware without goggle 3 support and you should be 100% fine.
That would suck to buy the Goggles 2 on purpose...
I bought my v2’s on sale and really haven’t had any issues
@@MikeCarr07 se bobiar o v2 foi o melhor óculos...
I had random video loss with the goggles 2 (not new firmware). I am about to look at the blackbox.
I suspect an O4 air unit will be coming soon.
This situation is very dangerous!
Thank Ian!
Thanks
Doesn’t happen on G2 with latest firmwares. G2 always recovers video.
@@moshecohen4029, thanks! That's a relief.
I guess I’m getting lucky. Hopefully my second air unit behaves the same
Yes u right DJI is playing with ppl health and safety! UAV is not a toy! They should not bring untested products to the market, they should not safe money by putting in danger everyone, thye should pay enough to employee for testing their products !
So dji do not do any tests themselves leaving them for customers?
This happened to me too! DJI you need to fix this! Stop with the bullshit generic customer service responses and get this issue addressed. No one should buy the Goggles 3!
Hello,
I have a technical question about signal transmission.
I'm looking for the greatest possible range
Thanks in advance.
I think ist Not possible to use g3 with r2 or g2 with r3 because they work differnt
the goggles go directly o the video tx"r, while the radio Tx"r goes directly t0 the receiver. they both do different things and are on 2 completely different paths
Takes them quite a while to get all the kinks ironed out.
any update on goggles 3?
Is this an issue for "auto" channel selection only, or does it still happen in manual channel selection ?
Both
Literally JUST went digital for my first time and am grounded bc if this. At least I didn't have to learn the hard way.
Same
Disarm/rearm fixes it or power on reset?
Disarm, but arm only after recovering video.
A simple thank you for
When we say random are we talking about 10ft out, 20ft out, upon takeoff, or is it random at long distance?
First time for me was about 120 yards away. Second time was about 60 yards away.
@@FlowmadFPV I've found a couple folks saying it was right after taking off....guess my o3 quad is grounded until they fix this...question is how long before I swap that one back to HDZero
