i can't believe they did a racism
Hello
I think I'm becoming racist
Fr man
"sir, they did a racism"
they racisted :(
8:02 I believe what they were TRYING to say is "we don't discriminate between new tenants by their race, only by their behavior" and they just failed miserably at conveying that. Presumably the apartments in that area have been known to be discriminatory against southeast asians?
That is a Malaysian place, so...
@@ryotanada Ah, that makes sense to me then. A lot of Asian cultures harbor some levels of dislike towards each other - not even mentioning the whole local vs foreign thing which is universal - so the ad could be saying that they'll treat everyone equally regardless of where they come from.
@@synonym1196 yeah "in this apartment building you aren't going to be treated as Chinese, Indian or malay, only as a good tenant" was the message they were trying for
It's in Malaysia, just about the most racially divided country in South East Asia. The three main groups of peoples (Malays, Chinese, and Indians) don't really mingle with one another, and the Malaysian state consider the Malays and other so-called "natives of the land" (Bumiputera) to have a special position over the other groups, and gives to them a lot of privileges, which IMO only makes the division worse. Like, those 3 main groups still have to speak English to one another, in their own country, 66 years after the Brits left.
Maybe this is just my bias as a neighbouring Indonesian, but I think this whole thing is ridiculous.
As someone living in Singapore, it breaks my heart to see this
4:40 The funny thing about this is that it is actually pretty sensible to segregate your sharpeners. Colored pencils typically have very different leads from non-colored, with wax being a major component. Sharpeners not built for that may not handle colored pencils very well.
In other words, unlike with people, colored pencils and non-colored pencils are actually meaningfully different!
The ones with adjustable sizes always chewed up my pencil crayons so yeah.
Washing cloths is similar; I often think about how explaining what I'm doing could be taken the wrong way when I'm separating my clothing in to whites and colored...
@@TheOneGuy1111 Yeah, talk about how to separate clothes without context can be taken in way the wrong way!
I was unaware of this fact until now. I'll have to expand my segregation efforts to pencils as well

My friend (white) was having a baby shower and bought those little plastic babies. The white babies were sold out so she said fuck it and got the black plastic babies. 😂 When I saw I was laughing so hard. I was the only black/mixed person there. Her husband didnt know that she bought the black plastic babies. I was wheezing when he said "ah so youre the other parent"
"NOW YOU'RE A STUPID SEX FIEND WITH NO WILLPOWER (POWER!) FOUR GUYS IN THE BATHROOM AT YOUR LAST BABY SHOWER (SHOWER!)"
why would someone bring plastic babies to a baby shower? Is it like they literally "shower" the person with plastic babies? That sounds like it would hurt
About the black smurf - the original story was exactly like that, but the cartoon turned the black smurfs purple for obvious reasons.
I DO believe Peyo (the creator of the smurfs) didn't do that intentionally. He was just a bit absent-minded at times.
Can happen to the best of us. At least he changed it when he found out.
I always saw the Smurfs as racist. They even look like the KKK. Oh, and have you seen Gargamel? He's like, the embodiment of every negative Jewish stereotype in the book.
True. Also, purple smurfs sound better, maybe because it kinda rhymes.

8:10 I'm gonna assume that one is in Singapore, where most people are Chinese, and Malays and Indians are present in sizable minority populations, so they tried to be inclusive by saying that they don't see ethnicity/race, but only good tenants... But it just kinda backfired and they ended up looking racist towards almost everyone in that city/country
I checked their website, they are located in Malaysia, so...
That is hillarious
Given it's in English I highly doubt it's in an Asian country otherwise it would be in their native language(s).

There's no such a thing as a coincidence
6:01 This accidental racism was exactly why they eventually changed the black smurf to purple
I've red it. It was apparently an infection that made smufs aggressive.
And when I looked up they made merch aswell of the black smurf implying the smurfs executives prefer feral black over feral purple

Recently, a coworker tried to joke around with me by using the flash on his phone to pretend he took a photo of me and pull up the image of a smiling black gibbon (I'm white, btw. This isn't the accidentally racist part)
He also tried it on someone who had darker skin. He's lucky the other guy also knew it was a joke because that could have gone very poorly
Oooh.. Yeah, you gotta be careful with that one, especially at work. All it takes is a slightly skewed optic or misunderstanding, and you might find yourself job hunting in the very near future..
Im sorry a year later that is the funniest shit I have ever heard of a coworker doing.
6:28 To clarify, Black Kids is the name of a band.

We actually have a racist cook book dated in 1960 or something, at least its very old because its not in color but black and yellow (because yellow paper). Anyways i was just looking through it and its full of lame jokes and when you look at the chocolate pudding recipe... you actually see a black boy with curly hair being mixed in a bowl by a yellow (meant to be white) fat chef 😭
Colorism and prejudice among local ethnic groups is actually a big problem in India.
@@AngelVazquez-vs9xp @AngelVazquez-vs9xp Yeah, I thought it was kinda funny to see an antiquated old book till I noticed that the 'white' woman also had the forehead dot, and I realised it was most likely from an Indian book, and it wasn't so funny anymore, because, as you say, it's a real and common attitude in India.

Reminds me of when I knew a kid in high school who would always get mad if someone ever said the word "black." So, even if you mentioned the color of, say, a shirt, he would get offended. I remember talking to one of my friends in one class about a female dragon with black scales, and he got all offended, even though I wasn't talking to him at all, and he randomly called me racist. Still have no idea what was going on with him, because he seemed to get easily offended by many other things, too.
I diagnose him with “Twitter overdose”
3:27 funnily enough, they chose their power ranger suit colors
😂
3:28 Actually the actor for the Black Ranger _wanted_ to be the Black Ranger, so that little kids watching wouldn't get confused when they were talking about "The Black Ranger"; This isn't a case of accidental racism at all, it was an intentional choice of the actor for the sake of the young viewers' convenience. As for the Yellow Ranger, I still don't understand why Asian people are considered yellow, their pigments are usually on the browner side rather than yellow, if anything the Mexican & Latino populations are more inclined to yellower pigments.
Wonder if it's related to "yellow belly"

Wonder how that happened 👀
@@Jocke-04 Well, the japanese started coming as contract agricultural workers even before getting involved in WW2.
Yhe italians started coming here during the 19th century because Brazil had started promoting immigration to increase its population, so rural colonies were created to accommodate the european immigrants and since Italy was dealing with a huge economic crisis a lot of them ended up coming here.
The germans were coming here a bit earlier, due to some failed revolutions during the mid 1800s that caused millions to emigrate and many ended up settling in the brazillian South and Sutheast states.

Unfortunately, a lot of countries have a native only rental properties. Japan still has rules for rentals, restaurants, and even jobs that are Japanese only.
This is true, especially in Japan, but that sign was trying to say, "We don't see you as your race/ country of origin. We just see you as a good tenant." It didn't mean that those people weren't allowed to be tenants.
Discrimination by ethnicity or nation of origin is, in fact, a crime in Japan when it comes to renting property, serving people at public venues or hiring for jobs. Not that there aren't racists who break the law, but all such "rules" are still illegal, not a normal, accepted custom.
