  • As the Nazi Reich was collapsing in 1944, Hitler issued orders to destroy Paris completely. He wanted all monuments and bridges to be mined, and the city reduced to rubble. General von Choltitz, the last Nazi commander in charge of Paris, famously claimed that he saved the "City of Light." However, there is more to the story. This investigation delves into what really happened in the final days of the Nazi occupation of Paris.

Interesting and informative. Excellent photography job making it easier for viewers to better understand what the orator was describing.Historians did a very good job presenting actual facts from fiction. Orator did a very good job presenting the documentary. Class A research project. Special thanks to general von choltitz for not destroying Paris under Hitler's demented orders.

First sentence didn't surprise me one bit. When the Nazi's had to leave Paris, he wanted all the history and culture destroyed. Of course he did. If he was going down, he was gonna try to take the world with him. That fucking guy took so many lives away, ruined so many families, created an atmosphere where thugs carried out the bully's orders. Bet you the guy couldn't even fight a man one on one.
Thank you this was one I have not seen and I really enjoyed it as well as most the stuff on this channel.

Oh wow, judging by the seemingly overwhelming majority of like minded comments here, i suppose you are not such a rare breed as a quick first glance at your statement suggests.
Now, care to tell, exactly which part of that first sentence lead you to come to that well described by you conclusion of what "the guy" truly wanted, and/or ordered, the way you state it? Especially considering the absence of any solid proof of the suggested narrative of the claim?
Let's look at it again, shall we? "In August 1944, when Paris was liberated after four long years of occupation, Hitler gave the order to destroy the city by blowing up bridges and monuments."
Right away I see four points of interest to us here. There are more, but I wont torture you with them, they are irrelevant to our topic.
      1. "Hitler gave the order..." (note: THE order)
      2. "to destroy the city..." (I wont play around here, it is clear which city all this is about)
      3. "by blowing up bridges..." (I wont contest this point, even though I could)
      4. "and monuments..." (ahaa, this is the interesting one)
So... are you feeling up for it? Want to go on a little 'pretend the guy didnt off himself and it is us two that are miraculously tasked with the heavy burden of emerging with an undisputed and honestly fair judgement as pertaining solely to these specific accusations against the guy?'

This man also stabalised an economy & nation on the verge of literal collapse with occupying Frence & Belgian troops & hyper inflation never before seen, he done this using an Autarky economic system & practically eradicated unemployent, housing mortgages were reduced for each child & once strugglimg families whos life savings couldnt buy them a loaf of bread were now able to travel to the italian riviera for holidays.

It all comes down to how you choose to see things. Do you choose to focus on the negitive. Or the magnitude of the days of liberation. World history should not be forgotten. But there are momments that can affort to be. If it means taking away from the sacrifices made to achieve a great momment. Not to say the lives lost are not important. But to focus on the positive instead of the negitive is more important.

To this topic one item can be added: In march 1945 Germany was having ready and operational atomic bombs of implosion type (Nagasaki type) and two-stage rockets (V-7) able to transfer this bombs over the longer distance, than V-2 and control of it was more precise.. This rockets were constructed in Alpine Fortress as it was called then , and while transported from the factory to the starting site, one bridge on autobahn between Salzburg and München had to be disassembled. Rocket diameter in fins was too large. SS- program which product was this weapons, was directed by SS-general H. Kammler. He was planning to use it against Paris , but Hitler did not accepted it - and it not been used. Probably the negotiation ( secret for us up today ) were in course in this time. This info is coming from interrogation of SS-general Gottlob Berger who knew H.Kammler personally and who was in contact with him in end part of war.
