Intracranial Hemorrhage

- In this lesson we are taking a look at intracranial hemorrhages or head bleeds that are the result of various traumatic brain injuries, or TBIs. I begin by giving and overview of what intracranial hemorrhages are as well as listing the 6 different bleeds group in to either extra-axial or intra-axial hemorrhages.
Following that with a quick review of the meninges, which are the protective layers of the brain. It is important to understand these meninges and its layers to better understand where these extra-axial bleeds are taking place.
From there, one by one, we go through each of the types of intracranial bleeds, from epidural hematoma, to subdural hematoma, to Subarachnoid Hemorrhage. We continue on with Intraventricular Hemorrhage, Cerebral Contusion, and finish finally with Intracerebral Hemorrhage. For each of these I talk about where the bleeding is in the skull and brain, how a patient would get it, how they would present with that bleed, show an example of what the bleed looks like on a CT scan and talk real quickly about our treatment options foe each bleed.

These videos are an absolutely amazing complement to my ordinary studies as a nursing student, in many ways so much better than the material my university provides! Definitely a long-term subscriber from this point forward
Awesome!!! Happy to have you here Sangth! Glad to hear that these videos have been helpful for you. 😊

My father was hospitalized due to a brain intracerebral hemorrhage in pons and medulla on May 14, 2024. He was transferred to the ICU and put on a ventilator just three hours later. Despite his critical condition, he miraculously regained consciousness on May 17, 2024. I was by his side and witnessed him responding to my requests to move his hand and leg. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away on May 21, 2024. The doctors attributed his decline to his pre-existing kidney disease, which made it challenging to administer all necessary medications, as his creatinine level had risen to 4.1."
Thank you for explaining the layers of the meninges is such great detail. This is exactly what I was looking for.
Fantastic to hear this! So happy to hear you enjoyed it.
Love this channel so much. Gives me the confidence that I understand the concepts, explains them in a way that makes sense and doesn't overwhelm with extra info
So great to hear this Ali. Thats truly my goal with making this videos so hearing this is great!
I’m so scared l have sonthing like this
I really really respect this teacher..I am also agreeing with many of you...
He is the best Critical care educator...vhe definitely needs world recognition.....👏👏👏
Through this video, it was very useful to know the cause, diagnosis, and treatment of epidural hematoma and endoscopic hematoma. I am still a high school student, but I will get more detailed information from your excellent video when I go to medical school
Starting with understanding the anatomy was excellent. Thank you for such a great presentation.
Awesome! I think it really helps to drive home the understanding so I'm happy that you thought so as well!
Neuro test in a few days and this video helped so much! Thank you! Subscribed.
Awesome! Glad it helped! You'll have to let me know how you did.
Watched, loved, subscribed, liked as requested. Its worth it!! Great Job!!

12:36 i had subdural hematoma. I had surgery and August 2020. Recovering well. Still some headaches but not as much
Thank you for sharing and glad to hear the recovery is going well for you!
What were your symptoms, because I get severe pain ful headache, and when I get MRI Done comes out normal 😢
@@dinnahsofabulous5941 headache at the back on the head. Sensitivity towards light. Extreme headache and neck pain. I thought i broke my neck. I drove to the hospital a ct scan was done and it turned out I had bleeding on both sides i had to have emergency surgery and I was so scared. That was almost 2 years ago
I liked the review of the meninges.
Awesome. I'm very much a believer that it always helps to have a good understanding of the underlying A&P to better understand whats happening!
Thank you so sooo much, helped a lot and more clear and audible, intresting lecture.. i suggest to mention location and type of pathophysiology, and symptoms based on location like you did it in Epidural Hematoma, MCA and Ipsilateral Fixed Pupil dilation. Lots of Respect Sir.
So glad you liked it and thank you for the suggestion! I'm always looking to improve and make better videos in the future.
Thanks u for this vedio Its very helpful we watching this channel from sudan all the best
How cool! Hello in Sudan! Glad you liked the video!
Wow dude. I love your lessons.
Thanks man!
Awesome video.
Thank you so much!
I feel like this is something someone should watch even if the only medical certification they're going for is EMR because there's just so many things getting thrown at you that you can't help but pick up stuff like "if they've lost consciousness, you should suspect a tbi" or "if you suspect a tbi, try to keep the head elevated."
Thank you, super helpful video! 🧠
It would be great if you could do a video about management of stroke in the ICU.
Glad you liked it. I do have it on the todo list!
great video...thanks
Glad you liked it!
Thank you a million. Oooooo Could you do a lecture on stroke pathophysiology and management? Please?
You're very welcome! And yes, I do plan to do stroke videos at some point in the future.
ICU Advantage much appreciated and you effort doesn’t go unappreciated. I am supporting your efforts by purchasing a t shirt from your team!!!
@@kiner30 Well thank you so much for that! It really is great to hear the benefit that people get and that these videos are appreciated!
I was going to request the same thing!
thank you , i loved your video its really useful
You are very welcome Abdullah. Glad you liked it!
Well sir thanks for the reference. I need it from time to time so as I remember certain things about my accident to Advocate for myself. Five years post with all the rehab thankfully it helped tremendously. Depressed skull fracture DAI severe TBI ICH and SAH two months comatose. They almost gave up on me. Horrible brain damage mostly to my frontal and temporal lobes. Epilepsy with all the seizures (about twenty a week). Bright side is I am almost living independently. I still am watched over though as I will cut/burn myself whilst cooking.
Thank you
You're welcome
谢谢💖
tremendous vedio.thank you sir
Thanks Jessy!
will you ever do a video over anoxic brain injury? That's what I most commonly see in my ICU
Thank you sir,I known diff types of haemmerages, thanks a lot.
You are most welcome. Glad to hear this!
Such a good lesson thanks
Thank you so much Lubna!
@@ICUAdvantage stay safe :)
@@lubnahm6009 Will do, thank you! You as well! :)
Hi Eddie,
Thank you for your very informative videos. I have not yet watched all of them, but I intend to do so.
Have you a lesson on explaining the pathophysiology of the main signs and symptoms of people with brain injuries?
cerebralauto-regulation changes?kelly monroe theory?) and what actually happens in side the brain to result in this. Why do they have headaches, vomiting, seizures etc?
I find a lot of sites list the signs and symptoms but do not actually give an explanation to why and how these manifest physiologically
Thanks again.
Hi Laura. Signs an symptoms will vary greatly depending on what type of injury and where that injury is at. I don't have a video dedicated to that but in future videos I will on Neuro that will be discussed as appropriate. I do have a video on TBI which talks about some what you are asking about.
Very interesting
Glad you think so!
Nice video
Thank you!
Thank you so much :) Supportive Treatment for TBI, please
Yes! Coming soon! 😉
Thank you!!! Can do a video on dialysis treatments please ?
@@katelinb9224 I've got it on the todo list :)
TSAH in elderly, what is the prognosis?
Love this, very well explained. Question! Would you see your cushing's triad with most of these haemorrhages, just specific types or only if the ICP becomes grate enough regardless of the haemorrhage origin? Thanks
Hey Hollie glad you enjoyed it!
So any of these bleeds could lead in increases in ICP to the point to where you could have the presentation of Cushings Triad. Its not a result of any type of insult, but as a result of the elevation of ICP, of which these all can contribute to.
Hope that makes sense.
@@ICUAdvantage yes that does thank you. I guess posturing symptoms like decorticate and deceribrate (hopefully I spelt that correctly) would also be down to the locations of the bleeds and the severity of the ICP as well?
Life saver.😇😇
Haha awesome!
@@ICUAdvantage Studying for cen exam and your videos really help. Thanks 😊.
Well done thnks
Welcome 😊

Thank yoU!
I have M.R.I. report of intracranial haemorrhage. Kindly guide me. I want to know that. Can I scanned or share this any method?
I have this
😬
So this is what a stuffed Bear couldn’t fix
🤔
I understand that these videos are mostly for students, but I am watching bc I have a family member with brain bleeding and I’m trying to understand the terms; I don’t appreciate the flatline sound in the beginning. Otherwise, very informational.
For people who really understand , it's a bit misguiding saying thibgs like septum "pellucidium" and "intracerebellar" bleeding at the end. Great video, otherwise.
Disappointed because you didn't cover bleeding brain lesions
That wouldnt be considered traumatic
@@ICUAdvantage it was pretty traumatic for me
