- BANGGOOD SkySurfer X9-11 - bit.ly/2DLm3aX One of the easiest to fly and smoothest beginners planes available. Works beautifully for powered flying, thermal gliding and slope soaring. CG can be anywhere from 60mm to 80mm. Flies well with 3S 2200 or 1300mAH. Long flight times possible 20min on 1300mAH,
Thanks to Druide for pointing out that this is the same plane as the t2M ZEST.
UPDATE 2023: Now available as the PrimeRC T1400 from Modelflight in Australia -www.modelflight.com.au/prime-...

What an awesome plane for chilled out cruising! Love the look of it too. Thanks for sharing Andrew!
A lot to like about this one. It's a real glider and slow flier
Very chill plane! Good for a relaxing flight!.
What a beauty!
Superb!
Tjakepzzz 👌👍 Sangatzzz
Very 👌👍 Nice
Wonderful
You're making beautiful videos, sir Andrew ! I have 2 Skysurfers and I flew especially when there was no wind. As I saw your wonderful flying at sea without a motor, I started to try it also (according to you) and it's really cool. Thanks so much for the great inspiration. George
That's wonderful George. Slope soaring is addictive
Thanks for showcasing this, Andrew. I'm very tempted!
Not only does it appear to be a good initial beginners plane but one that would be good for transitioning from LOS to FPV. It's stability & being able to fly it so slowly would allow the pilot to think about what they are doing without feeling rushed.
That's right Tony, it would be one of the best for that
nice flight
Sloping....terrific.
ahhhh just watched your video again for the 100th time rofl... got the decals on my skysurfer now, and used my pencil battery operated soldering iron pen, at 120C temp to slide over the decals and in the corners and sides to make them stick on to the surface better. All looks good now, just waiting for the snow and -20C today to bugger off !! LOL Happy Flying
Nice tip for the decals! Bring on the sunshine
really nice plane and smooth...
It is a sweet flier
I had one. Flew the crap out of it. Best foamie i ever had.
It's a real surprise, I thought all these plane would be very similar but this one has it's own personality.
Thank you for this, I just ordered mine as my very first plane! hope I learn to fly as you.
Excellent first plane, best of luck learning
Another terrific review, I wondered about getting the Bix2 over this plane but I think the slow flight speed makes this a winner for me . Thanks again
If you want slow, this is the one
I want one!!!
Looks like a future replacement for my old AXN Floater Jet.
It will be a lot calmer and cruisier
magnifique
Very smooth and stable.
Cool as mite get one
Very nice looking and flying plane. I was surprised it had such a small prop but I guess it doesn't need that much thrust. From the video it looked like a 6" prop might work? Did it have any nose down tendencies on launch as I couldn't tell from the video? Thanks for the review and Happy Flying!
Very little dip on the launch. I think the light weight and under cambered wing helps.
I like for the price.
Great review as usual mate.
Can you please tell me what you think would be the widest battery you could fit in the plane? I have some Li Ion batts is like to use in my next build that are aprox 70mm wide and weigh about 420g. Would this be over loading the bird? Combined with FPV gear?
The opening is 65mm x 150mm but you could easily make it wider. Internally it widens out 100mm. It's not really strong or stiff enough to be a heavy weight carrier.
Very nice indeed. I think I'd add some light carbon strips to the wings as they do flex a bit (and I'm a fairly rubbish flier) With the space available this could be anything from a simple trainer to a fully stabilised FPV bird. Definitely versatile and not expensive either
Versatile is the word!
Try placing several strips of 2"wide clear packaging tape along the outer half of the underside of the wings. Just don't bend the wings as you apply it or you might upset the dihedral at the outer ends. Being underneath, the tape will be in tension when under load and increases the rigidity of the wings by a considerable amount.
Excellent review Andrew, looks great, just got one for my grandson two days ago.
Looks like a good replacement for the AXN Clouds FLy / Floater Jet as well. That model is sadly now no longer available from HK.
Will need to get one of these and see if I can get a low, slow, invert through the soccer posts with it.
8^D
Make sure it's on video Jo
Hi Andrew, great vid as always :) Can you tell me how the wings are fixed. I see that they Jigsaw together but how are they secured in place?? Regards, Pete
Just friction fit which is working fine at the moment. Magnets might be a good idea once it loosens
@@AndrewNewton Thanks Andrew,regards, Pete
Thanx for the video, which mode on radio do you use?
Mode 2, but for 3ch planes I put the rudder on the right stick.
What a cool looking and great flyer.
Too bad, as doesn't appear to be available any more.
It is a great floaty pusher. Pretty sure it wasn't originally called Skysurfer.
Very nice Andrew. I wonder which is the better? Bix 3 or this one.
Both better than each other at different things. The X9 is better at being fun to fly
Very nice flight. Where to buy? I am from EU. Thank you very much
Look in the description
Still sucks that the two servo's are to much to the front so you have much less space for equipment.it,s the same problem with the sky surfer x8
Sometimes I wish reviewers would do a crash test :D is this the best beginner plane? I was even looking at the bixlers
Bixler 1 and 2 are great for learning but the X9 is slower and cheaper.
Sounds like you like the X9-II as better then the X8, right? Trying to jump into R/C fixed wing and this one caught my eye.
I like both but the X8 is almost identical to the Bixlers. The X9 is just a little bit unique with curvy looks and heaps of space in the battery bay. I think it would be the best plane to learn with. It's lighter and can fly slower.
Andrew, is there ever a day when you CAN'T slope soar? Geez you are so lucky where you live.
Westerlies and northerlies frustrate us, But we do have lots of options
great vid, can it work with 2212 motor? thanks
Yes, perfect size, maybe 2000kV with a 5 or 6" prop
Andrew Newton you’re amazing, thanks
Really nice review. I bought 1 x original Bananahobby Sky Surfer to which I bid it good bye on the inaurgreoul flight, although I did enjoy the 6sec's of flight I did get. I replaced the body with a kit, and reused the electrics from the first. A few months later a single dead tree in a large farm paddock claimed that to. I replaced that with a Bixler2 and although that is still flying I may have to buy the 9x, just because! Thanks!
By the way who owns the rights to the Sky Surfer name and design? I can't keep up!
Ha yes there are so many different Skysurfers.
Hi Andrew and Virginia,
Sure looks close to a Bixler clone. Was going to mention will make a good sloper until you added that footage at the end. :-)
It loves the slope and thermalling!
Any Idea when the V Tail is released Andrew? it looks a lot like my old J powers v tail, it was really light too, and very fragile! (it's retired now, I still have all the Pieces *-)
Might just be an incorrect photo on the product page. There is no way to select the different versions.
@@AndrewNewton When you select the classic red version it shows a V tail!!
Hello Andrew, Great work. I'm new to RC world... i got frsky x7 with x4r for skysurfer v4... throttle connect to channel 1 Ailsrons connected to channel 2, elevator connected to channel 3 and rudder to sbus... but channel 4 rudder is not working at all... is x4r sbus receiver compatible for 4 channel airplane ? Pls help me out buddy
Hello. X4R SBUS is only 3 channel when using PWM connections or 16 channel using SBUS. You need to buy the other X4R (not the SBUS version) or X6R or X8R. Or you could just fly it without rudder.
@@AndrewNewton thanks Andrew... btw u r doing great work.. even my son is ur fan
Nice plane the wide body would be giving a good bit of lift to .
what are the wing made out of blow mold or EPS
EPS EPO not sure really. It's not EPP or blow mold
Personally, I would be happier if the tail & elevator servos were fitted right back at the tail end of the fuselage.
That would be good for balance with bigger batteries
@@AndrewNewton Or for normal batteries + camera, vtx or flight controller. Too many modern designs of fixed wing planes do not allow for any extra weight in the nose beyond the recommended battery.
It seems they discontinued this beauty... Only very few sellers have it in stock left and they only have few left... Alibaba also has few left and they tell you it's their last batch... Tried to contact the manufacturer but they didn't reply ... Well we'll have to stick to the x8 so...
The X9 or whatever else it's called is so unique. Pity it's rare
@@AndrewNewton Hi Andrew thank you for your reply... I didn't give up yet... still looking for it... thank you ...keep it up!
Nice airplane but no foam or packing for protection in box. I received mine dented and cracked. Parts were bagged and lose.
Same, mine was OK but the box was compacted
It's a foam fuselage, right?
What Mark said
Hehe, can't help noticing that they've got two different planes in that Banggood link, and the main one is deffo a Bixler clone. ROFL!!!
I think they have photos of 4 different planes in the listing. Lucky dip maybe.
@@AndrewNewton X¬D
The first bixler V1 they ever sold was delivered to me in a skysurfer box!! it's the bixler that's the clone! haha
@@reefer2917 Ah, I've just remembered that I've got a Nine Eagles Sky Surfer in it's box from 5 years ago. It's nothing like any of these others because it's 780mm span and looks like a semi scale glider, sort of, if you disregard the up-swept wing tips.
www.robotbirds.co.uk/default/nine-eagles-sky-surfer-s-fhss-rtf.html
Multiplex EasyStar started it all ...
Is it better than the x8?
Both very good, not better, just different. Better beginners plane maybe
Hmm.. i cant find this plane anymore.
Not in stock for long unfortunately.
:(. Only 360p video..:(.
Check your settings and speed. Mine is 1080 as I am near my router.
I got 1080
I ordered one of these from Banggood and it arrived without instructions. Banggood tell me the only instructions they have are Chinese! Was this anyone else’s experience? Thanks, I’m a novice .....
Ready Made RC published a good manual, s3.amazonaws.com/content.readymaderc.com/manuals/Sky%20Surfer%20Instructions.pdf
@@AndrewNewton Cheers Andrew - appreciated! I had also found this manual link on the web, remained intrigued though as on your review you unboxed a manual. Thanks again for your great reviews. Anthony
I found the supplied manual and it's only 8 tiny photos and 8 short sentences, my build and the RMRC manual are much more useful.
If it's a great beginner's plane, let's see a beginner fly it.
Yeah, come on beginners. Show us
