I feel like the contrast between ego and super-ego(society’s wishes) is what Ayn Rand talks about in Fountainhead. She is on one side of the spectrum: one should peruse individualistic goals rather than societal while eastern philosophers like Buddha would dissolve ego for the sake of bramha. I agree with you that they both are correlated.
