  • Henry Foner (Heinz Lichtwitz) was only six years old when he left Germany without his family to escape the terror of the Third Reich. He was one of 10,000 Jewish children who was rescued on the Kindertransport program which sent the children to live in safety with families in England. From the moment they parted, Max Lichtwitz, Henry's father, sent him colorful postcards - initially in German, and later in English when Henry no longer remembered his native tongue. The postcards were illustrated with humorous drawings and charming pictures and each contained short loving message from his devoted father. The postcards were later featured in a book published by Yad Vashem Publications. You are invited to listen as Dr. Ella Florsheim, Editor of Yad Vashem Publications speaks with Dr. Henry Foner about his personal story in a special program as we approach Father's Day. The program will be introduced by Neil Wigan, OBE, British Ambassador to Israel.

thank God for so many generous families who moved quick and saved these children. the fact that each child who was saved grew up to have his and her own children is a comfort to compensate for the loss of so many thousands and children during the holocaust.
