I have been battling with a Unimig where the Welding shop could not ever get it to run properly and to be honest I have gotten pissed with it so many times because I had spent a lot of money on this unit, But from watching videos I have now started to see faults in the Machine, Faults in storage, Faults in setting up and with your excellent products and fantastic video's they have helped me to address many things and I am looking forward to getting this machine into perfect health and see what its actual potential is. I have welded a lot of things from Building Large Trailers to Steelwork in Construction and always been able to get really good results, so when I came into a bit of money and my old faithful cheap welder had issues I decided to jump in and spend some decent money on this Uni Mig 275 which I was told back then was the last of the Copper coil machines that were going to be made and sold. But it was a circuit board that went on the machine and replaced under warranty which can happen to anyone but to tell you the truth the shop just seemed to be clueless past this point, but with the support of an Uncle who was a Boiler Maker we got it into the sweet spot and it wasn't too bad, but because of site issues at the rental property we suffered from really poor power which went up and down dramatically.
As you know this is not Uni Mig's fault but it helps people to understand what is the cause of erratic issues so machinery that is of good quality like this unit does not get blamed for poor performance or failures.
SO some of the big issues I had with this welder were related to poor maintenance of things like wire from lack or light use which for the part-time welder is a massive issue and would make a great video for you guys, Telling people how easy and cheap it is to keep a couple of liners on hand so that once you got to do your project and find feeding and arc issues as I have then it's just a no brainer to have a $10 to $15 liner there or as I now do a few and just chuck one in and see what happens when you experience this issue or I guess unload that section of wire and throw it away rather than bugger and jam it.
I know a lot more people that suffer simple storage issues as I have that then end up blaming wrongly the machine because they did not understand why it went to crap.
Would you suggest putting the wire plastic bag over the wire real to stop rust build-up or does this not work?
I can tell everyone that my welding is great when the gear is great and crap when something has slipped past and Interestingly if the machine is up and running sweet then they usually do continue and I have found that I think while they are in full work they usually continue in this mode, but rust build up on wire seems to be the killer with the mig and for me, Stick usually seems much more forgiving?
But once you go to mig and are making a reasonably large project then it's not often that I would want to go back over to stick?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts? and I totally accept that poor shop support did not help my opinions of the unit but working through issues and seeing your excellent videos has helped me to get a much better understanding of what are my failures and just how cheap many solutions are like liner replacement where its compromised, because as you know if you have a really bad liner issue then its usually been the root of all your pain and suffering for a very long time and just like brand new tires on your car and feeling the difference its something that most times you would happily pay to fix had you understood the issues?
Well, I scored another welder that is virtually new and is My Unimig in a 250 but in another brand right down to the Dual roller drive system? is Uni Mig selling these machines through license or are these copies as the quality appears to be excellent and its a perfect story around knowing your gear.
Well I subscribed and Love the Videos and I have been watching them as I am considering the Viper 185 to have a crack at a bit more mobile welding around the property and I also want to have a crack at Tig, as well I would love some advice on Plasma Cutters for sheet around 3 to 5 mm to compliment the equipment I am currently using. Cheers From Garry from Australia and keep up the impressive work.
