    This series could not have started at a better time for me. I feel some kind of telepathy here, thank you my dear Knobs. 🖤

    DIY case is really great option if you want to start building modular. Many people forget about utility modules, keep that in mind, folks. MIDI, I/O, CV or even USB, mixers, multiples, clock generators and dividers, many things to learn. Fighting GAS becomes harder after watching videos about modular.

    My favorite part of the knobs channel is watching you take the awesome FX stomp boxes you get and apply them to synths. So I'm super glade you went in this direction.

    I didn't know what these things were called till a couple months ago. You could say I've been a bit of a distant admirer, but now I'm thinking about fucking around and starting on this journey thanks to you.

    10 months into this adventure with a background in synths , guitar, and making linear music in cubase for indie film I realize i still need to slow down and learn how to get more out of each module and my mistake was buying too many VCO and not enough modulation modules to control and shape doing some course correcting now....but at the end of the day this is all so much fun

    These videos are awesome! The look of the vids is so nice, and they are super helpful. I wish these had been around when I started with modulars!

    I’m looking forward to seeing more of this series. I started to compile some gear a year or so ago, but got frustrated and backed away. It would be really cool to see a “here’s a cheap and easy way to get started” or a “you need the following to get moving” video. I would hope that this channel could do this in a judgment free zone & express some of your own opinions too. So far, so good!

    I must be really tired, I had to keep rewinding just to keep up with the reading.
    Fascinating, either way.

    What do you think about starting virtually, for free, with vcv rack?

    • @Knobs
      @Knobs  6 років тому +16

      I think it's a great option. I don't enjoy making music with software so I've never given it a go, but it's a great tool.

    • @jeezuschryst

      a good way to learn fundamentals before dropping cash BUT nothing beats the tangible control imo

    • @andrewcs_
      @andrewcs_ 6 років тому +5

      even though it's not for everyone, exploring software on this channel could be a cool way to alleviate the belief that one needs excessive money in order to create good music ~

    • @mynmyself
      @mynmyself 6 років тому +1

      You can very easily start very small (maybe just a VCO and a LPG or VCF) but use software generated CV to control it. I do this with Reaktor and an Expert Sleepers ES3 (but you can use vcv rack, max msp, etc). I do have quit a big system, but I can make it even bigger by patching from the computer, that way I can also test some functions or specific modules I might be thinking on buying but don't fully understand how they may work within my system

    Oooooh so this is what those old photos of switch board operators from the 50s are all about. Who needs telephones when you have oscillators

    When did modular become a verb ?

      Yes.

      So following the logic, putting modules into is rack must be the process of modulation, right? 😉
