I decided to pick up the Jazz Dispensary Haunted High record cause im getting more into jazz fusion recently. My local store didnt have any Dream widow so i missed out on that
If that Ramones show was at the State Theater in Detroit, I was at that one! Still have the shirt. Though, a lot tighter now.🤣 You’re right about Ness. Saw SD a few years ago with Flogging Molly. Not as good as they were in ‘92. I remember seeing Overwhelming Colorfast. But, don’t recall what they sounded like.

OK - you said it - I feel that warped records are the bane of my existence right now - Mile davis 45RPM UHQR - 4 copies! to get a flat one - John Coltrane disc 2 extended Blue Trane tone poet - 4 copies to get a good one! The Mars Volta - 3 different records from VMP - all had to be re sent - all warped - 2 ENTIRE BOX SETS from VMP - Ghetto Records AND Story of Zamrock - ALL DISHWARPED! THANKFULLY - all had new copies sent - but damn if I cant find flat records anymore! Needs to be said more!
So I’m 4 months late… As a David Grohl fan I waited in line to snag Dream Widow (which was well worth it) and the Bing Crosby/Bowie little drummer Christmas single which I was psyched to nail. I grew up with that song and was thrilled to get it on a special release vinyl. I was so ticked off that they cut off the intro banter between Bowie and Crosby where they talk about what they like about Christmas and Bowie makes the joke “Agents coming out of Christmas trees”. That intro set the tone of the song, humanized Bowie and Bing and compliments the music so well. I was shocked they cut that out especially when you are paying good money for a special release single. Poor decision IMOP.
So awesome that you featured Overwhelming Colorfast! They were aquaintances of mine back when I lived in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, their debut album was stuck on the shelf waiting to be released for almost a year while Grunge took over the world. I saw them a half dozen times in the Bay Area in 90-91, and then after I moved to LA I went to see them when they toured there. Crazy enough, Weezer was the opening band that night. The video for "It's Tomorrow" was on 120 Minutes one time and then I don't think it ever got played again...
That is rad. They opened for Social Distortion and the Ramones. Back in 92’. I saw them at big rapids Ferries state. They were all so fantastic! Of course the best Beatles cover ever “she said.” I didn’t know anything or anyone else that interested in them. They were life changing!! Tell them bro!! Peace
I don't know how anyone plays records without a reflex clamp or periphery ring these days. As I recall you have a Rega? Pretty sure someone makes a reflex clamp for Rega tables. Note that a reflex clamp is a clamp that comes with a washer that goes under the record, that's what will flatten warps. A clamp w/o the washer won't help. I slide the shrink wrap off w/o tearing it, fold it and store it in the jacket. (I use Vinyl Storage Solutions sleeves so I store the records outside the jackets.) So you aren't alone in your hype OCD. :) In the interest of minimizing dust I leave the records in the paper sleeves until they go into the degritter, at which point they go into rice paper. I don't want to put uncleaned records into the rice paper and get dust in the sleeves. My only RSD purchase was the Eric Burdon & War box set.
@@gonolith reflex clamps are great for dish warps, they will always flatten those on both sides. For potato chip warps they can sometimes help, but I find they often flatten one side a great deal and the other a lot less. For edge warps where you get that sharp curl right at the edge they do nothing at all. I find most warps are dish warps where they pack the records before letting them cool sufficiently and for those the reflex clamp works great. But warps on 180g records can be problematic, those seem to chip warp a lot and it's more sketchy whether it will help there. The Curtis Mayfield box Rhino did a couple of years ago, most copies were severely warped, my first copy was unplayable even with the clamp. My second is badly warped but the clamp does flatten the chip warps pretty well on all but the first record, which it at least flattens enough to be playable.
Lol - like how you opened the records by ripping the paper. That spider-vinyl…wow. I had that Mimic in my hand…the cover is gorgeous. Dang - you recommend it. The Oscar P has pretty art on the cover.

@@thevinylattack I'm not impressed with the quality of the Fleetwood Mac box. Sound is good but lots of pops and clicks I can't get rid off. I also bought 2 used Buddy Holly boxes of the 70's, less pops and clicks on them. Either I have been unlucky lately or the quality of new vinyl has taken a dive again. Had other new vinyl of which at first I thought I couldn't clean but on inspection there were scratches from the factory. On black vinyl it's easier to spot, but the Fleetwood Mac is on clear vinyl. Good luck spotting anything on that with the naked eye.
I was late to the record store due to travel and missed the only thing I wanted which was The Cure reissue. The store had all CDs on sale for $2 each and I walked out with five of those instead of any records lol.
I was tempted to pick up Motorhead Live in Malmo but I decided to wait, it was too steep at 50 bucks, hopefully the price will be reduced. I did pick up Nashville Pussy-Say Something Nasty, decent sounding pressing and Skip James.
Really like the artwork on the Colorfast jacket and vinyl! BTW, FWIW, I very much like your more animated and to me more natural style now. You were always great, but you came across as somewhat mechanical, like you were reading a script (which I suspect you do 😊) That WOULD though lend itself to some very dry humour, but overall I really like your more animated approach now 👍 Oh and also BTW, uh, I do not believe that there was a 'Jackson pollen' (as in 'Polonesque') um, it was Jackson Pollock 😁 MMMmmm... that Mimic soundtrack looks NICE! Great first US film by one of my very favourite directors, Guillermo Del Toro (BTW, if you want to watch the best version, get the Director's Edit on Blu-ray) The Weinstein brothers cut the living $h*t outta his film, so it was awesome that he had a chance not too long ago to go back and re-edit it, it honestly is a FAR better film. And, Mira Sorvino was a BABE! Very nice Dead Milkmen album! I have all their OG releases from when they came out. Always had a soft spot for them. Oh, and not to be TOO Snarky, uh, Acoustic Sounds has the Clarity vinyl on the UHQR, um... *cough... not the 'One-Steps' 😁 Sorry...
When doing reviews, there's just so much information to get right that having at least a set of good notes is necessary. On things like RSD and tests however, I just tend to chat.
Hi Chris, I didn't see much on the list that interested me for this RSD, but you showed some of the ones that I thought I might try to pick up later if the prices go down. The Duran Duran and Oscar Peterson look like ones that I might actually pick up. I was curious about the Dead Milkmen album too, and it certainly has a lot of swag, but for $50 I think I'll pass. Fu Shu Mang by Smashmouth wasn't up your alley? That coloring book is cool, kinda wish I got that album instead of the new RHCP. But to be fair the poster with Canteen Dream is really excellent and the foil covers are dazzling.
Any high-density polythylene (HDPE) inner sleeves from a reputable seller. Sometimes called rice paper even though they aren't. Take a look at Vinyl Storage Solutions. Tell Mike I sent you.
@@thevinylattack they did however we opened the replacement and it had the same defect. It looked like the press had some paper pieces that got pressed into the vinyl. Anyway I got a clean copy, All is good

I passed on Catholic Boy as I've already got an OG and couldn't figure out from the cover (which mimics the original art) what the extra disc was all about. I met Jim once. To call him a genius is an understatement. The only things I picked up were the Ahmad Jamal records. Probably should've grabbed the Oscar Peterson, too. There was some interesting stuff this time-- too many records.
Until RSD stops discriminating against people with a local record store, I continue to boycott it. Since the secondary market still prevents profits from going to the labels who participate in RSD, I will continue to buy used, and will pick up the Motorhead ASAP.
@@thevinylattack No. But they can certainly allow online sales. How many legitimate independent stores don't have a website? It would just drive more sales to the independent stores. Additionally, think of seniors and disabled customers who can't get out.

It's a continuous (and inexcusable) problem to be sure.

I have a Clearaudio, but I'd prefer to limit the gadgets necessary to play a record. If I can flatten them another way, I will.
@@DismasM Yeah, not much you can do with a Linn sadly. The clamp on my VPI has saved many a warped record and made them playable.

@@gonolith Vinyl Flat isn't doing review samples anymore, so I'd have to buy it to test. Let's hope the Pi is a different story.
See if you can get your hands on The Orb record flattener. It’s a bit pricey, but fuss free and does the job so well, with zero problems.

It's not discrimination. The entire point was to bring record stores back to the forefront. They can't help where you live.
