It was fun. I do think going year by year like the first would have been better. But now that the finale has aired, it makes sense why the format was summer 1999, winter 1999, and then summer 2000. With how Isabella is with Megan, having only a short amount of time to tightly bond and such showcases signs of a problematic friendship (pretty toxic too, if you ask me). The timelines work in that sense, so if that was the intention, it was a good move.

Did anyone else notice how Megan had a little sister and then halfway through the show she just disappeared 😂
She appeared last in episode 8. But she was never a big part of the story and didn’t spend much time with Megan since Megan was with Luke or Isabella so I can see why we didn’t see her much

Monster was Isabella . She is a murderer and had no problem setting up her ride or die sister and throwing her under the bus providing police a botched videotape to frame Meghan .
Yes Steve was a bad father ,egotistical was a bad husband too and pathetic but Isabella is the one who committed murder.
I see a theme now with Cruel Summer. Innocent, wronged blonde who becomes grunge and crazy lying brunette who wants to be cool and popular.

I was shock af with the last twist with isabella. It truly broke my heart for luke even tho i didnt like him that much, it still hurt at least for me
Same like what Luke did was wrong not trying to justify the tape situation. But the girls didn’t even know about the tape when they planned and did drug and tie him up. Maybe it’s the actor looking younger but my break broke when he was alive and Isabella could have saved him but instead took his life

Though I did think one of the girls would have maybe seen him drowning and walked about. But Isabella like straight up killed him like damn girl ruthless. All the actors did really well these left few episodes
I did not see that Isabella twist at the end coming either. I have to admit, like the end of season 1, this one caught me totally by surprise.
Completely agree! I was totally shocked & disturbed watching Isabella put her foot on his head & seeing him barely move to try to fight…! Luke’s hand was literally on her other shoe as she pressed his face under…😖
The saddest part is, Luke could have survived what Brent did! He was lying there on the shore with his head sideways still Breathing! He only moved his head because he was attempting to get the persons attention but his neck was too weak! Steve would have eventually found Luke & saved him if it wasn’t for Isabella going back & drowning him….
i feel like if Steve found him he would have killed him on his own anyway because Luke already wants to expose him for who he truly is and knowing Steve reputation is everything so...
He was too weak to have survived much longer. Plus, the water was cold, so that would’ve added to his sooner demise.
Ned probably would have seen him on his camera first & gotten an ambulance for him.

I thought it was that sociopath Izzy from the get go. But then then started to think maybe it was Brent, the last couple episodes.
It was a crazy end, for sure.
Leaves me to think Megan will stop at nothing to avenge Luke’s death. And win. 👍
Meantime, she saves Brent from spending some serious time behind bars. She still has a soft heart between them all. And he went down to confess to her, telling her he couldn’t let her take the rap.
So, she will make the tape known & b/c she’s smarter than that little towns top tech dogs, with Ned’s help, they’ll track down & nail Psycho Liz.
I know Luke messed up by trying to be someone he's not. I think he truly loved Megan. He totally didn't deserve what happened to him. Especially all the bad treatment from his dad and brother. So sad.
And bis Friends 😢 only Megan was nice to him and like him, who he is.
When Debbie asks Megan what happened with the pregnancy, Megan says “I took care of it” which to me implies that she had some type of an abortion. I feel like Megan wouldn’t have a problem telling her mom that it was just a false positive.

I actually liked the ending. We had steve’s corruption & Isabella’s insanity & unhinged self. I wish they tied some of the plot-holes up.
I cannot imagine that Megan would let Brent stay in prison when she knows he didn't kill Luke. The thing is, it was an accident what Brent did, so I think he could get charged with like fucking up the case but the one really doing the illegal stuff was really Steve. Steve was purposefully misleading and lying to the cops, and I think there's other shit with his business or something he was in trouble for. I don't think Isabella would necessarily go to prison for killing Luke, because she does have the diplomatic immunity, but I think Megan would want Luke to get justice.
We don’t know what would or could have happened after that. The ending was basically her finding out right then and there that is Isabella killed him. We have no idea if she would have went and showed the police that footage or not .
Megan would absolutely share that footage to save Brent. It is strange that the police didn’t subpoena & examine Ned’s camera footage much sooner after Luke disappeared. I can’t recall if there was a reason they might not have known about it.
@@alison4dice yeah that’s a lot of fucking plot holes unfortunately…as they said in the video definitely reminiscent of pretty little liars 😂 growing up watching that show i’m disappointed but not surprised by writing like this coz we see the potential but it’s just so sad it didn’t come together

Steve is the most evil person this season. He cares more about his reputation than his own family. He pinned his wife's accident on his son when it was due to her being drunk. He did not want to be known as the husband of a woman who got into an accident due to drunken driving. And now he was covering up Luke's death to save his family name.
The ending was wayyy too predictable and still left so many question. I was hoping there would be some major plot twist besides the obvious. If there is a season 3 I hope the writing gets a little better.
I love that callback to season 1 with Kate Wallis' book. The girl wrote a bestselling novel. Wow.

@ndeeyah88 It was a blink and you miss it moment. But they focused on the book long enough for me to know to rewind and pause it, and I saw it was a Kate Wallis book.
Overall, Season 2's finale did not surprised me. Season 1 had me shocked.
Some things were definetly left out in Season 2 that didn't get covered in the finale.
1. Isabella's Summer 1998 floppy disk never got used.
2. The girls never confronted Parker about eavesdropping in episode 6.
3. How did Debbie (Megan's Mom) feels after Steve got caught?
4. Despite Brent was being an ass, he was willing to give it up for Megan.
5. As for Steve, like I said before in episode 7, definetly was trash from the beginning of the show.
6. Love that the book was an Easter Egg from Season 1. Definetly need more 😊.

I think that Isabella introducing herself as Lisa maybe means that Isabella is not her real name either, but also the name of a friend she did something to in the past.
That could be true. Her starting fresh seems like a pattern for her, so I wouldn't be surprised if she has some kind of trail of constantly being involved with trouble.
I thought that, too. The name on her ID, Patti Highsmith, was an indication of her character. (Have you seen the Talented Mr. Ripley?)

I have soooo many thoughts on the ending but I will say one of my favorite “clue” lines they threw on there was Steve saying that Brent basically is an idiot but in a time of crisis he will show up. That always stuck with me and then it turns out he did, twice. He showed up at the dock for Luke (yaknow accidentally hurt him but the intent was there) and then he showed up for Megan so she wouldn’t get blamed for his (actually Isabella’s) actions. Idk I thought that sentiment was nice.
Ps doesn’t excuse his super TERRIBLE AWFUL PREDATORY behavior that was also explored in the show but I do love a good character growth arc.
I was hoping we would get to see Megan get her eyebrow pierced, the way we saw Jeanette cut her hair in season 1
Brent really surprised me. But I was not shocked at all that Isabella ultimately killed Luke. I figured we would get one of those final scenes totally blowing up the ending like Jeanette knowing Kate was in the basement the whole time.
Always thought it was Izzy. But got thrown off a bit toward Brent the last couple shows.
What’s also confusing is why didn’t they continue looking at the security cameras? Then Megan would have seen Isabella getting to the house. Also if the police did what they were supposed to when they looked at the house and around for evidence how did they not see the camera? Wasn’t the cabin very far away from where they were?
I think it was written so much better in season 1. You can tell the difference in the show with the creator of the series leaving. It seems like the writing was slopping and lazy, not enough thought put into the plot points to be believable. The writers kept mentioning that we would assume this or that which is really bad, and I felt like we did not, as the audience, spend enough time connecting with the characters in a compelling way. I am guessing there were other scenes filmed that were cut, which may have made the story more coherent and it might have been an editing issue in the way they told the story. The showrunner interviewed sounded very young and inexperienced with her answers. However, I really liked the first and last two episodes.

As a very curious person, I'm really upset that they didn't answer all the questions in the end.
I like that season, but I think this ending was kinda messy... they gave us too many information during the show and they didn't develop everything for a complete closure :/
Edit: That questions being answered by the director just proof to me that they were messy. If Megan had a false positive, why the heck they didn't put this in the dialogue between Debbie and Megan when they were literally talking about it?
The answer about the Lisa situation... I don't buy it.

I’m with you on wanting more complete answers! I think it would have been better if Megan only suspected she was pregnant. Even when that was first revealed, I thought it was one plot twist too many.
I read the showrunner's interview and she sounded very green and like it was a film school project, assuming the audience would think this or this took place off camera. Sounded like she needed a masterclass on making a cohesive and compelling story. One thing I have learned watching 12 Monkeys and last Season of Picard (love Terry), the little things she blew off is what makes a story great. You have the main plot and the subplots, but the threads that tie together the story, no matter how small, leaves the audience coming back for more.
I think that is what made season 1 so suspenseful.

Were false positives a thing back then? Because they aren't now. That's just a very early miscarriage. Hcg won't show on a test for hcg if there isn't hcg in the system. It only gets there one way unless taking hcg for fertility reasons.

The showrunner saying the pregnancy test was a false positive bothers me. I wonder if they planned on going more in depth but scrapped it because when it was brought up in the interrogation room, Megan looked EXTREMELY upset. When Debbie confronted her, again Megan looked upset and that she'd tell her later. We never get a conversation with them. Then the bloody comforter...Luke's ear did not have ALL that blood on there. I feel like saying "oh it was a false positive" makes that plot point not make sense in the end. It seems like a lazy cop out. Isabella drowning Luke like that in the end SHOCKED me. I never trusted her but man, that was cold. Now I need to know if Isabella killed Lisa lol that poor girl on the plane with my name, I wanted to yell RUNNNN. All in all, I did like this season, but I feel like there are more questions than answers compared to S1. Loved the Kate Wallis easter egg! Hopefully we get one in S3...with Isabella's crazy ass gets arrested.
The baby stuff annoyed me too. The way she explained it just felt like an afterthought. Like they started that storyline then forgot and were like oops

I feel like it could've been Megan because of the baby storyline, but they dropped it. This season was not thought through at all.
@@heyitsnoreen Not to mention, they dropped the teacher who was messaging her through instant messager. The guy who gave her a bad grade. What was that all about? They stopped so many storylines.
I don’t get why they just didn’t say she had a miscarriage. Obviously, she wanted the baby - she didn’t drink when she was pregnant and she was upset and disappointed when Luke suggested an abortion. A miscarriage would have made perfect sense.

I had the same thought. A psycho who just goes place to place doing dirty deeds to others. Wanting a connection, but b/c she’s so mentally deranged, it’s impossible for her. So, she has a wide berth of victims.
I even questioned if her parents were diplomats. Everything about her is false.

I think it would be kinda cool if there was a season where we follow Isabella the summer before with Lisa, and we uncover the truth with her
I think it would have been more interesting if we found out Isabella was part of a group of scammers who manipulated rich people to steal their money (Imposters style). Like she was getting close to Luke to get access to his families money but then got close with Megan or Megan got in the way. Something like that. They could have squeezed two more episodes in to expand on the story and explain more about Lisa as well as let Megan get her revenge. Overall though, the season was seriously lacking compared to the first period and the nostalgia that was very prevalent in season 1 barely existed in season two. If they do a season three that takes place in the early 2000s, I hope they truly stick to the nostalgia. Not just the music but the clothes and the slang.

Isabella being the Joe Goldberg of the Cruel Summer universe was expected and satisfying in a way
This season was a rollercoaster for me pretty predictable but good. However I prefer season 1 only based there was more questions answered rather than season 2. Who edited the videotape ? Like was it Jeff ? Where’s Trevor in all this they only brought him 1 episode ? I am so lost ? 😂 What was Megan’s mom sick of?? Then Megan’s sister disappeared? I felt that Luke should have been alive that would have been a better ending for him. Showed he went the coast guard and somehow the sheriff helped him out. Although he was a jerk towards the end or aka “nice guy” he died thinking everyone hated him his family, friends, girlfriend it’s sad. For Isabella she really has psychological problems with the concept of friendship that girl needs help asap 😂

"Edited the videotape"? Dude, Isabella just copied the VHS on another VHS, but only the scene she needed. There's no "edit" at all, just a "start record from here" and "stop record".
I did guess it! well, at least Brent. but I had a strong feeling that we were gonna get that last second Season 1 type of twist...I think I like the ending with Isabella. but I've heard others liking that Luke would be alive at the end. I think if the final twist was Megan saw Luke and Isabella together and her saving him, and then Luke was on the plane that would be really more interesting.
Brent was at the top of my list very early on, but I didn’t see the Isabella twist coming. There needed to be more hints about how possessive she was of Megan sooner.
I personally think if Isabella or Megan saw the other that night kill luke in the lake and keep that secret the whole time would have been a better twist. In season 1, Janette didn't lie about seeing Kate Wallis but the twist at the end was that she knew where she was kidkapped that she didn't save her. In this season Issabella was obsessed with Megan and killed for her friendship with Megan. It is a pattern. If Isabella was so ride or die that she never actually mention that she saw Megan come back to kill luke and report her this whole time it would have been an obsessed twist where she is loyal and keeps secrets for their friendship. If isabella did kill Luke than Megan keeping it a secret would look more ride or die even with Isabella's past with her friend Lisa. That twist would look more like the twist that Janette's friends and Kate's lover, Mallory, actually saw her in the window and never told her or report her. Kate decided to forgive her but also because she never wanted to reveal that she willing entered the home of her kidnapper. In season 2, the twist could have been that Megan was there that night and saw Luke but just walked away and then Issabella came after her and killed him. Another twist could have been Megan finding out Isabella did kill Luke and not care or be happy that she did that for her, but that wouldn't have made sense because Megan was so upset that night about the idea of him being dead let alone killed. I could make sense if she truly just wanted to make sure her hands weren't dirty but who knows.
With that finale shot I think it’s implied Megan is on the hunt for her ruining her life and technically with the video it frees Brent
Isabella has money, but Megan has skills.

Honestly I’m going to miss watching a recap of this show every week on your channel! I’m of course going to keep watching the channel, but watching your recaps and thinking of all the twists that could happen with this show in particular honestly made my summer! Here’s to hoping for a season 3 (after the writers and actors get what they deserve!!!)

I think Megan will use her hacking skills and try to go after Isabella to get justice for Luke cuz I’m the end she looked beyond pissed.She looked like she was gonna do some damage to Isabella.As for Isabella I think she did kill Lisa cuz when someone gets in her way or figures her out she gets angry and tries to get rid of them.Just like she did with Luke cuz he figured her out that she was in fact obsessive crazy and needed mental help and so she had to get rid of him to get him out of the pic cuz like she said in ep 9 there isn’t enough room for the both of us with that scary grin look on her face.I think what happened to Lisa is that she figured out Isabella and tried to tell her brother Trevor she needed to beware of her cuz she is crazy and maybe Isabella found out and snapped and with her narcissistic self she manipulated Lisa to get in the water knowing she was drunk wkd then she drowned her cuz she knew she didn’t have a chance to fight back since she was drunk.It’s like in a lifetime movie where the villain gets angry and tries to get rid of the ones who figure them out their motives and so instead of trying to push their victims away they draw them in closer by making them get on their good side cuz they would rather keep them blinded instead of seeing who they really r and that’s when they reel them in when they got ‘em by making the victims put their full trust in them so they won’t be noticed and figured out.Let’s face it Isabella used her narcissistic behavior by doing some gas lighting to get Megan on her good side so she used Luke( dating him )which knew Megan and she knew that so she used him to figure Megan out to find out how to get on her good side cuz Luke tells her Megan comes around eventually so she disks give up after she found that out.She figures out Megan was this nice gullible girl who she could manipulate and get her on her bad side with her.All i can say is the person I feel bad for is Luke cuz he died feeling like he wasn’t loved and hated by his own father and felt so betrayed 😢

Final thought about the sheriff to add. I’m not sure there was really meant to be anything mysterious going on when Megan & Isabella saw him at the bar. He was just out having a drink that night. They used fake IDs to get in and ran to avoid getting into trouble.

While the episodes in this season were a bit slower, I think they did a great job explaining why everyone could be a suspect and later explains everyone’s motives. For Steve, it’s clear that reputation is everything so him covering up Brent’s actions in the summer 2000 timeline isn’t shocking and shouldn’t be since he continues to excuse his sons behaviors and actions. Honestly I like the story just wish the pace was a bit faster and not everything was jam packed in the last 3 episodes.
Yeah, I agree. The momentum was slower compared to the first season, but, I didn't mind it as much. Waiting until the final few episodes to ramp things up was not a good idea, though. Because people will pass on it if they're not entertained enough by the majority of the season. If there is a third season, I hope they even out the pacing more and don't cram anything. It'll flow better that way.
I think Isabella gets attach to people in the way she does cause her parents don’t really pay attention to her so she creates this obsession with these girls to make up for that. I do think she cared for Megan but I think Megan kept letting Luke get in her head about her. I do wish we got to see what caused Luke and Isabella to start disliking each other cause we only seen Isabella get a bit upset about Megan starting to spend more time with Luke after they got together and then them going back to school and then on Halloween and afterwards them throwing dabs at each other so I want to know what happened between the end of Summer into the Fall that caused that rift. I get that Luke was overwhelmed but his downfall was his own doing. And though I don’t think he deserved to die he was already half dead by the time Isabella found him he would probably have died anyways. After what Brent did with the tapes I think he deserves jail time and so does Steve. I don’t get why Megan was upset that Luke and Isabella slept together they were dating at the time so something was gonna happen. Even if Luke didn’t ask her to lie I don’t think Isabella had to tell Megan if she didn’t want to but I think Luke should’ve been honest since they were actively sleeping together about losing his virginity he didn’t have to say with who just that he lost it. And if Megan got mad oh well. I feel like she was a bit entitled at times and a bit whiny. In the end I think the chambers men kinda got what they had coming to them. I feel like Isabella doesn’t believe she hurt Lisa cause she is a bit mentally unstable but it is possible she did maybe what happened was an accident cause I believe Isabella said people were around when Lisa fell but they were too far away to hear/see what was happening but In my head I truly feels like she thinks whatever did happen was accident but idk if it was or not. And something tells me that Megan did go to the police about the tape (btw the technology in the show was not believable. Because cctv in 2023 is still very grainy when it comes from far distance and we can barely isolate sound that is like 5 feet so the fact that they want us to believe that they isolated a whole conversation at a loud party with people standing like feet away from a camera or a camera can pick up people at a lake in the darkness of night with no real lights around when technology 23 years in the future has a time doing that is crazy lol) but I don’t want her to do it to help Brent cause he still did trouble things and knew the truth for months and watched his dad try to set her up and only told the “truth” when it was too late and someone was take the fall for him
There has to be a season 3 so many cliffhangers. I was glued watching.
Tbh I liked Season 1 way better than Season 2. Don’t get me wrong season 2 was okay but I’m okay with the unanswered questions left from season 1. Season 2 didn’t even touch on how Jeff was able to afford his expensive equipment. It sounded like it wasn’t a blue collar job. What was Parker relationship to the sheriff? Where did Debbie and her sister went to? And the explanation about her pregnancy made no sense at all. I actually think the writing of season 2 was pretty bad and were trying too hard to live up to the expectation of season 1.
At least the acting in season 2 is better across the board than in season 1. I think season 2 is shot more interestingly too.

things i wish got wrapped this season is isabella life after the plane flight, meghans pregnancy, and what meghan does after watching the tape.
what i would've did with isabella after the plane ride i would've kind of did a deja vu story where isabella relives the same thing she did with meghan with michelle but a very different story. maybe like this time isabella or michelle would be killed.
what i would've done with meghan pregnancy is probably ruled it in she had the baby and gave it up for adoption or she kept it and hid it from everyone considering that when luke said "my dad can fix it" she got upset meaning abortion wasn't an option she wanted to do.
last but not least what i would've done with what meghan did after watching that video is she pulled a trevor. hacked into the transportation system and found out where isabella was going and did a visit there and get revenge leading back to how i would've tied that up with her new friend, isabella, and meghan. i would've kind of did like face your past type thing and that probably would've made a better ending than what we got.
as far as season three i think we need to go to 2003-2005 or something like that and maybe make a stalking type season. and they bring back the camera situation.
This was a lackluster ending ,Isabella was the only good character😭they could have made Megan get pregnant w her hacker friend, Isabella dated Megan and the other friend that died and when they reject her she gets jealous, Luke purposely caused his mom accident.. Like they were so many storylines ,such wasted potential.
Even though this was a up and down season they stuck the landing for me at least

I thought at first that they shouldn't have added the Lisa killer reveal but now when I look back the second season was a commentary of both toxic masculinity and femininity. The way Luke was always questioned for his femininity and the way Lisa was always slut shamed over her openness( the masculine lead), both were verbally accused by Brent as well for that. Women asking for being slut shamed and men not having the masculinity to be the dominant one. This season had a very strong message in general.

Okay, I’m shipping Megan and Brent and am happy that Brent was the REAL loyal one and didn’t like Megan go down for murder. He manned up real quick. Also, the sheriff being sneaky with the tv camera. That was smart. I KNOW Megan will NAIL Isabella with that evidence so season 3 or whatever will be bomb because man, Luke dying was real sad, and Isabella is officially psychotic.

Even though it was more predictable this season as to who killed Luke, the way that the finale played out and how everything was done still made it interesting to me. I was shocked because of that, not so much by the reveal itself. Man, I'm just glad it wasn't Jeff 😂. I would've been more disappointed than surprised if he did do it. But overall, I was wrong with my theories (as usual lol). This season was good in my opinion, just not as strong as the first.
Despite that, I do think that it can do well enough for a renewal to happen. Maybe the writers could use the next set of years; 2010, 2011, and 2012. This is just part of an idea that I have. Instead of having two main girls, they could have two leading men this go round. They could start out as best friends (2010) turned bitter enemies over time (by 2012) over a case of framing. One of them (the two males, I mean) could be in jail for a crime they did not comit and they're mad because their best friend is the one who called the police the day that it happened. And even when the evidence is presented, something doesn't add up. It'd be a case of who really did the crime and how/why one of the two, main guys was framed for it.
But, only time will tell if this show does get a third season.
I hoped it was Jeff. He had a reason to hate Luke, he loved Megan, and he knew everything about the fake sex scene. The "good guy is the killer" would have been a perfect twist.
I hated it lol. The ending was hat over hat to me. Brent being the real killer on accident made sense. Isabella coming back to finish him off felt like a gimmick to have a similar ending to last season.
I kinda agree. I think it shows how people around you have a different prospect of an individual. The show didn't do it to well, but I think it was trying to show who was right about Isabella.

I watched the show the morning after it aired and was waiting on this review. I guessed 2 of the three but that final final moment was not good for me. That last twist didn’t need to happen but I guess it worked well for last season so they re did it 🤷🏽♀️
I was so shook at the last 10-15 mins of the episode because when it was revealed that brent was who killed Luke I was like " I freakin knew it.!!" but I didn't expect to feel bad in a way because just seeing how Brent didn't mean to do it and he felt bad letting Megan take the fall..it made me feel bad for him in a way. I lowkey had hope that Luke was still alive after all that but finding out it was really Isabella that killed him was even more shocking and the way it happened Like I know Luke did some bad stuff but his face when he was on the shore like the look of hope that he might not die was so hurtful and then Isabella drowned him and pushed his body in the lake I was crying and felt so bad for Luke in that moment. my mouth was wide open in shock for the last 10-15 mins of the finale episode. Wow it sucks we don't see what happens next with this show its left a mystery and we get a new storyline but yeah It was a crazy ending for sure.!!

Based of Season 1, In Season 2 you definitely get the justice that they deserve because Brent and Steve seems to be in jail so that’s a good thing but they waited to long for the final episodes to get really good and it always seemed like Isabella was a lil psychopath from the beginning but at the same time she was a better friend to Meghan then Meghan was to her so that kinda dismissed it for me. The ending was kinda better sweet because I was happy they didn’t go with the theory of the Sheriff Myer helping Luke Or Ned Kidnapping him but Isabella killing Luke was crazy but not really shocking based off everything thing Luke and Brent did to her so feel bad that Luke dead but not too much and the fact that Isabella got away with it was definitely not surprising.
Isabella should have ended up being in jail, for life, or even better, killed.
I watched s2 as a huge fan of s1. I cared about the main characters in s1- the dorky girl desperate for popularity, the 'it' girl who had it all and chose to let it go. Every week we waited as they drip fed us more details until I was fully invested in a happy ending for both girls and truly empathized with both. What happened was tragic but the truth brought closure. And then the final twist. Mind Blown. I found both Isabella and Megan hard to even like and the storyline felt entirely predictable. Other than the timelne shifts (which were hard to separate in s2) I wouldn't think it was the same show.

i liked this season I just wish they answered the loop hole questions. like for instance what happened to Megan’s pregnancy?
I'm gonna give this season a C-. The ending twist was good. The twists of Luke not being the good guy we thought he was was good. But too many things did not make sense or were just abandoned.
1- It was established in the first episode that showed the cabin how far it was from the houses. So did Isabella teleport there between them coming home and going back at 8AM?
2- I'm not letting the body found 7 months later and being recognizable go. There's no way. It would be too bloated and decayed. Dental records are the only way. And it annoyed me that they kept saying murder weapon and murder scene when talking about the gun and cabin but said cause of death was drowning.
3- Actually a lot of the things that took place in the summer of 2000 seems like it should've taken place just a week or two after New Years. It seemed like the showrunners just wanted to stick to that Summer time timeline even though it didn't make any sense. Like Megan cleaning the blood from the cabin months later and the cops searching the cabin months later.
4- Can we tie up loose ends please? Did Isabella kill Lisa or was it an accident? Where did Ned suddenly disappear to when they coincidentally needed all his camera footage? And then he just reappears out of nowhere? Was that locked door important at all? And having to read an interview to find out that the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage was lazy writing. Same with 'Isabella went to the cabin to tell Luke to stay out of Megan's life and found him at the shore'. Not well portrayed at all.
4- Why. The. Eff is Isabella going back to Ibiza? A place where she is still involved in a mystery and going back using the name of the person that was killed? I don't know much about Ibiza but I don't think it's that big of a place and I don't think there are a lot of black people there for her to just be able to blend in. It's a big, round world. Not just Ibiza and Washington. Pick somewhere different.
What I think would've made for a good ending was Megan seeing the camera and looking at the footage to show her finding Luke half dead on the shore, taking him away. Then showing from her memory him telling her she's better off without him and he's better off without his family so he runs away. And she deleted the footage, leaving his brother and dad to go to jail for what they attempted to do. Idk how they would've explained the body, but if i am supposed to believe the rest of the unexplained stuff in the show I'm sure they would've found a way to say she broke into the morgue computer system and switched the dental records to make the find believable or something.
Okay, end rant. Phew!

I’ve really enjoyed your reviews of Cruel Summer! I definitely would have liked a few more answers to questions in the end, but this show is pulpy fun drama, and I hope there is another season. At the start, I believed that Isabella wasn’t who she said she was, which somewhat turned out to be true, just not for the reasons originally thought. I don’t know if there would be enough to cover, but what if next season had an earlier timeline with Isabella and Lisa showing that full story and then a later timeline of Isabella with the new friend she met on the plane at the end. Eventually Megan or the law would have to catch up with Isabella though.
Each new season will be a completely different story and characters

Exactly, I love how everyone says Luke is a "bad guy" just for a single kiss to his ex girlfriend in a moment where his relationship with Megan was at an all time low, but Megan that literally kidnapped a kid, drugged him and left him alone, is a "poor, little angel".

I loved this whole season so much, probably more than season 1, until this last episode. I wasn’t a fan of the ending, just too predictable and I think it would’ve been much better to make Megan the actual killer and work in some motive because she got framed by Isabella and was arrested but then she got saved by Brent so the perfect ending would’ve been that she actually went back that night and killed him. I get that it wouldn’t make sense for her to kill him with the context we were given but they could’ve come up with some motive and made the twist more surprising imo. It was a fun season tho none the less

A teen getting outed in a small town, an accident at a summer camp, or how the aftermath of 9/11 affects small town America.
I feel like anything is possible for season 3.
Whatever they do, I don’t want it to be as predicable as season 2.

I genuinely believe that isabella tried to shoot luke - it wasnt an accident. All i could think of when the scene played out was when her and Megan practised shooting with luke in an earlier episode and Megan had great aim but Isabelle was terrible. I don't think she missed bc it was an accident, she missed bc she can't aim.
I also wouldve had loved if at the end Isabelle saved luke and helped him runaway. I feel like there were moments alluding to that bc of how he wanted to be a coastguard, and with isabelles vast knowlege of travelling she wouldve helped him escape. And we never actually seen the body in the body bag when Steve identified it, that could of been a possibility for the shows ending. Plus i feel that twist wouldve been more shocking that Isabelle really was a "true"/ loyal friend rather than her saying that and it all being a facade. If only luke could've communicated his feelings of resentment of his life to isabelle she might've done the right thing.
Do glad I finally got to watch the episode and your review. I think Meghan is going to give the sheriff the tape but also use her hacking skills to get revenge for Luke. I think Brent got a leg up on being a better person not fully there but its a step in the right direction- episode 1 Brent never would have done what episode 10 Brent did for Meghan. Steve needs to stay in jail for awhile. Isabella I think is a psychopath and her actions really show that what she did to Luke at the end was cold blooded and had no emotion in her face or anything. Great season. For season 3 I either want a continuation of this season or a new story

I have very much enjoyed your commentary/review of this season. I'd say I fall into the category of agreeing that this season was back loaded at the end with some great material however it did seem as if a multitude of plot points were introduced then went nowhere. I will stick to season 1 being the stand out but I will still say that I did enjoy 2 albeit mainly the back half of it. As a person who grew up in the era that these shows are based in and consistently watching Fox/ABC families summer drama series, these shows not only serve as entertaining now but I hope will continue their mix of mystery and nostalgia.
Season 1 was really outstanding for me. I did feel too much back and forth in this season and lacked some details. The good part is unlike the first season the main character remained sane till the end and not showing up that Megan was the culprit
Maybe next season we can get the answer as to what Megan does with that info in another easter egg. Like a news report showing that she turned that video over to the authorities or just made it public on the internet (even anonymously)... I'd like that. She does something, but she's not going on a full path of revenge, the girl needs to have a chill life and carrying that knowledge won't help.

I didn't enjoy it as much as season 1. Probably because it moved too slow. But here are my thoughts:
1. Why did Debbie have a camper and why was their houseguest (a minor) in it?
2. How is it no one thought Isabella was a serial killer after the letter arrived about Lisa?
3.Why was Megan always questioning loyalty she didn't give?
4.Why didn't the cops notice the camera on the lake?
5.Isabella knew the whole time she was saying they had to get their stories straight she was a murderer

Lisa, I really enjoyed your breakdowns & theories for this show. I had a feeling we would get an ending similar to season 1 just not Isabella being the killer. I thought maybe Steve or Jeff. I think Megan will send that footage to local sheriff & the FBI & I think it would be cool to see an Easter egg in season 3 if we get another season. Overall, I thought this season was good but not better than season 1. Episodes 7-10 are better than 1-6 & I do we wish we had more POV episodes like we did with episode 9. Also there were a lot of parallels with season 1 which was nice. I hope we get a season 3!

Just finished this episode a few mins ago and I did NOT see that coming, make me feel like Isabella (if that's even her real name) might actually be a true psychopath for covering so much of this up, and for even killing Luke to begin with.
Megan should at least give the tape to the Sheriff so Brent doesn't have to get convicted of second degree murder and spend 25 to life in prison. I would like to see a part two of them hunting "Lisa". But if the show gets renewed for Season 3 and they go with a new story, I hope it takes place in the early 90's.
No doubt in my mind she will take that tape to the police.

I think the sister was meant to be a minor character to add more responsibility into Megan. It was mentioned she was at a friend’s house a few times she didn’t appear. Nothing really happened to her, she just wasn’t the focus of the story. Megan’s Mom didn’t even show up in the episode & Megan was arrested.
Their mother pretty much disappeared too, for absolutely no reason.
43:01 So for this one, France's police was technically who Isabella was fleeing from vs Ibiza/Spain's police, so this would make a little more sense considering the possible crime did not happen in Ibiza, if that helps at all.
I also wondered that initially though and then realized Ibiza was just one of the places she had been previously or wanted to go with Lisa to, not sure.

I just saw this series and I don’t get affected very much but the song playing when Isabella killed him. Meagan crying so hard. Broke my heart. I definitely think they should make a season three. Definitely a good story and addictive and always a twist at the end. This series should have a lot more seasons.
what i thought was dumb is that luke literally handed the s*x tape to someone working at the party and told her to put it in. wouldn't steve or the sheriff or someone have questioned the person in charge of starting the tape and she would have said luke gave it to her?

Pagers were just numerical, and they could only receive messages… We all had them when I was in middle school and believe me that was the worst thing about them lol you would like be in the middle of the woods and get a page from your mother lol. It seems like the show was written by somebody who only heard about the 90s from their mom… Like not even from reading things up on it. They literally said “that’s what she said” in one episode (that wasn’t popular until like 2007). It was like they were doing it on purpose. It was so bizarre. I could go on and on. They used so many wrong lingo, and things that weren’t popular until years later like saying “my brand” or “you guys are endgame”.
Like I can suspend disbelief for all these biracial couples (for a frame of reference I grew up in New York, and the first biracial black/white couple in the 2000s, in the burbs of NY remember, the parents literally went insane it was like the talk of the town)… but it really bothers me that they can’t simply do a Google search to see if a saying that was said yet or not .
I had thought the first season was so accurate to the early 90s but now I wonder because I was only a little kid in the early 90s so maybe I just thought it was accurate and it really wasn’t lol.
Because I’m telling you this one it was like they were trying to put an Easter eggs of things that didn’t belong… And I’m not even talking about the pager… Obviously, that was just to advance the plot… I mean everything else lol
