I've learned myself to get by with half of what I used to. I've learned myself not to eat for 4 days a week and be fit. I'm looking to alternative jobs like starting to become an undertaker (I kid you not :) ) because that job will be a needed job. Now I'm a AI automation engineer and I don't show my clients all the things I can already do but I'm scared. I'm really scared. I can now automate almost all jobs already.

In every nation that has gone through a hyperinflationary monetary collapse, shops pop up on every corner offering to buy gold and silver. I think the supply will not meet the demand and such shops will be forced to pay way over spot. Converting precious metals into fiat or digital currency even, will be no problem at all. My main concern is that such buy back programs essentially behave as an unofficial confiscation program, as all of these shops will probably be one way trips to the central banks as they draw down the supply even more to limit our options.

@@joshspeed7794I’m thinking totally opposite when SHTF that cash will still be king for a while and converting PM’s to this useable currency, these LCS or bullion dealers will be overwhelmed and premiums will be in the negatives. Bartering will still be your best alternative overall, don’t get me wrong I’m also a stacker, prepper and collector of these PM’s. Food Fuel weapons shelter may be the most valuable asset in time of a devaluation of the dollar. Way too many variables to honestly say.

@@AboveAverageMan97 The nice thing about PM’s is there is a history of worth as a stable global money. Not saying that they will hold this value when SHTF but if you would look at when Nixon took us off the gold standard our 90% silver coins are now worth silver spot price if not more due to premiums in both directions. Value is only seen when selling and buying.

Actual experience, I am from Germany and will let you know what my dad DID IN 1946 AT THE END OF WWII
He was a plumber by trade but also produced some jewellery mostly earrings which consumed a lot of silver wire
When the Reichsmark collapsed there was no currency available for several months
People were unable to buy necessities, particularly food, My Dad was able to visit farmers and barter his silver wire for
produce, and he was able to obtain sufficient food that any excess our family did not need he was able to barter for other items such as clothing, toiletries etc. Needless to say, we had sufficient food that we were not starving.
If something similar happens now it may be a bit more difficult but swapping will be the only way to go forward
    Hope this will help somewhat

Tools, supplies, and skills will be currency. I think acquiring them all is ideal. That being said when you can't do it yourself and need to outsource, then bartering off your skills, extra tools or surplus supplies would be the first option personally. When you have nothing to flat out trade, this is where silver and gold really come in. Honestly this is how a lot of my friends and family already operate, with cash being the last form of payment.

This is why they say a community will be your greatest ally after the collapse. They would need to set up a trading post where everyone would come to barter. It would need to have good security. Also, it may be beneficial to have some type of rating system for the buyers & sellers. If they don't score well you simply don't invite them back. The whole post should be ran by a panel of respected and verified community members.

Silver as a currency substitute for daily living in this scenario. 1oz Silver would likely buy £20 of groceries or fuel. If currency fails, then food price will rise rapidly but so will value of silver and Gold. Just harder to spend say a Gold Sovereign valued at £400. Keep gold as an alternative long term storage of your currency and try to pay off as many debts as you can now.

I live in Florida, and we are trying to pass into law an honest money system where your silver and gold are deposited into state vaults, and you are issued a debit card to use for purchases against your metals. The value of the metal will be instantly up to date at the time of purchase. The bill also allows you to redeem your unused metals if you desire. I'm praying this bill passes into law.

Your account is only metal, no cash. You'll be issued a debit card for the metals in your account. As long as they don't print promissory notes it makes it a lot harder to run fractional reserve systems. When you use your card, the receiver can choose fiat or metal for payment. Value of the metals will be tagged to the market price at the very moment you bought. This is what I understand about the proposal at this time.

I too, have this same concern with my metals. I asked UA-camr Yankee Stacking this same question yesterday. His reply was “barter”… Without going back and forth with him, I left it there… Again, my question is the same as this video. What do you do with your gold and silver in the event of a currency collapse? Cash, fiat currency would be absolutely worthless. You wouldn’t sell your gold and silver for worthless currency, would you? Barter? If there is a currency collapse, what would happen to society? It would be every man for himself? The “Mad Max” scenario. You would have to be armed to the hilt and ready to use those arms in the event that you were attacked and robbed… You will be afraid to leave your house to go out and barter…

My stacking approach is simple. Just like trading stock you buy with one thing in mind: exit strategy! My larger bars of silver and 1 oz gold coins will be to secure my mortgage. Unless it's a complete collapse like an EMP. If it is a long slow move away from the dollar by the BRICS and the dollar loses all value people will move to safe "exits" bitcoin PM's ect This is happening quickly now. At some point when my stack can be converted to dollars enough to pay what's left of what I owe, I will cash out and pay it. Remember most banks can out last you in bad times. Just hope the bank holding your mortgage doesn't get gobbled up by a bigger bank. REMEMBER THE GREAT TAKING BOOK. Constitutional silver for bater after SHTF until some order is restored.

They'll take what they can & may - or - may not give you fair price for metals so could result in them taking your home for none pymt as your careful figuring out what to pay them isn't valid any longer. Govt may confiscate metals - who knows! There's talk of a credit card issued to everyone but will it reflect what you had to turn in during confiscation???? Who knows! I totally agree with you on this happening during the Savings and Loans crisis…. During the S&L crisis you could not get the money you had in the S&L… so if you had no money at home.. you couldn’t pay bills or buy food… but if you had some gold jewelry or other form of gold you could sell it… there were representatives that would buy the Gold…. You simply got a group of people together and contact the rep …they would come to your home to buy… the problem was that the reps would cheat you … this is how they did it… everyone would submit their jewelry together… if one person had 18 carrot and someone else had 15 carrot…. They would call it all 15 carrot. They had no way of verifying the purity of the Gold so they bunched it all together and payed at the lowest carrot purity in the pile. So if you submitted an 18 carrot gold chain and the other guy submitted a 15 carrot Gold chain the guy with the 18 carrot chain got payed for 15 carrot gold purity and not 18. At least this is how I understood it… maybe others had a different experience. The other thing is that they were only interested in Gold.

This is a really delicate touchy situation when talking about gold silver and other commodities. There's going to be two scenarios in my personal view One being that if you have a bunch of gold ounces and there is a collapse and you become desperate you will hand over a higher value then you will get in return. From my perspective I think people should learn to accumulate junk silver dimes quarters, And also the new instrument goldbacks. The other thing is a lot of people view their ounces of gold as personal items meaning it's like art It has a nostalgic value where they will not part ways with it ever this is very important to think about this If you're buying ounces of gold I agree it's beautiful but remember one thing Will you part ways with that piece of gold when it comes time to probably not but you will part ways with dimes and quarters You will part ways with Gold backs. So ladies and gentlemen really think about this as I want to see all the people that live within the 50 states of the United States succeed I love all human beings on his planet but first I want to see my own people do good and when we do good the rest of the world can do good or they can do good at the same time we do good bless every human being on this planet and God bless everyone in America.

In my humble opinion, in a rapid financial collapse (say over 60-90 days), gold and silver will have great desirability as a safe haven for wealth. If the economy has a really long recovery period (longer than 6 months, then metals will not be desirable by the masses. (sure, some folks will still barter for it, but in reality, only about 10% of the entire population has any desire to own metals today....I think we are kidding ourselves if we think all of a sudden only gold and silver is going to be accepted as payments....people will flock to the things they need to actually survive.)
Other things like food, water filtration, ammo, meds, coffee, smokes, booze, seeds, camping items, etc. will be the most desired things, simply because of supply vs demand. (there will be extreme shortages of all these things and much more)
Once the economy recovers (and it will, as it has in every other country that has had a collapse and the governments are still around) then I think metals will become desirable again on a wide-spread model, and that will be a time when stackers may smile big.
In the event of a catastrophe like an asteroid impact, super volcano, full nuclear war or any other globe-altering events, metals will probably only have a desirability for a few weeks at best. Once people realize that any potential rebuild is going to take years, they will revert to survival items as mentioned above. Metals would not come back in to value until the system was well on its way to rebuilding.
Personally, I do not think we will ever see a true financial collapse as long as the federal government exists. They simply will not allow it. They will change currencies as many times as needed to keep things going. Short of a civil war or other major event as mentioned above, the economy will see bigger lows and not as big highs, but it will continue to function, and the masses will survive just fine.
I am not speaking down on metals - I stack both gold and silver, but my overall stack is diversified with other things too. (yes, including cash - for today, cash is still king, and is desired by 90% of the population over my silver or gold) I probably am not really considered a true stacker, because at 5oz of gold and 800oz of silver, I have slowed way down on my purchases. (I still shoot for 50oz per year, via 10oz bars) - For fractional, I do not think you can beat good old 90% US coins. (The premiums are getting back down to a point where it no longer is off-limits to most)
    Cheers!

If only 10% of the population currently has metals, then a return to gold/silver being the fallback currency as you mentioned, will make it pretty hard to survive for the 90% of the population that does not have any. - For that reason, I think it will only be when society has regained its footing, and is on the way to recovery that metals will be come more widely accepted.

The first tip I'd offer is to say that I don't think people will have any use for metals unless a functioning economy exists in some form. If SHTF, and prior to a functional economy, people will want only what serves immediate needs: food, ammo, medical supplies, etc. Before I worried about stacking metals I'd make sure I knew my neighbors, knew my community, had friends to align with, had a means of house to house communication. If the issue is purely a currency collapse I agree with you and the places that you think will trade metals for services. (I already pay an electrician - partially - in silver, at spot.) I think services and skilled trades are where metals will come in handy, same as you surmised. Also, if metals are through the roof, fractional denominations will surely be desirable. The trick will be in convincing people that you have real silver. I don't think telling 'em about the history of US coinage, i.e. junk silver, is going to be effective but people may catch on fast. Still, I'd rather be using some rounds and showing them a receipt from an LCS as I think that'd fly better in securing trade with ordinary folks.

Consider a scenario where you have accumulated 5,000 ounces of silver over years of stacking, and finally, you watch the dollar collapse in slow motion over let's say a year. Silver hits $1,000/ounce and yes, there are still buyers in business. You cash in for $5,000,000 and beeline to the Caymans. During the month you are celebrating, the pace of the dollar decline intensifies and silver moves to $2,000/ounce, then $10,000 and so on. You will be wiped out just as badly as those who never stacked an ounce. So, my suggestion, barter your silver for everything especially land.

I think fractionals just make sense, especially when you are dealing locally with obtaining goods. I do wonder if someone collects coins that are silver and the dollar collapses, then the silver currency value goes down with the dollar, will you be able to get the full value out of coins? That's another reason why I think fractionals are a feasible solution.

    • @Cayuse2009
      @Cayuse2009 5 місяців тому +5

If the dollar collapses, the value of your silver will increase in value in dollars. However, what an ounce of silver will buy in today's terms should buy the same amount of commodities (food etc) as it did before the collapse of the dollar. For example, I can buy a beef cow to butcher from my neighbor for one gold coin today and also after the collapse.

Purchasing fractional silver doesn't make sense simply because of the premiums involved. Junk silver, particularly dimes fit the bill nicely. Fractional gold on the other hand, does make sense.

One tip that I used in the past, currently use, and will help in the Future, is logging. Log all types of assets with prices on paper every quarter. Do your best to Keep records of price fluctuations on all that matters to you; coffee, copper, silver, sugar, grains, gold etc. It's a good habit to have so when the time is needed, you will have an idea on values that can be used for easier bartering with neighbors, friends and local vendors. Also I remember reading about how values would reach over 3x value on liquidated assets ie: precious metals on hand.

I will have coin books that define precious metal content of all types of coin, I will have precision scales, precision calipers and even a Sigma Analytics tester for gold and silver. Some people take 'stacking' with 'SHTF' too literally. The reason people have started stacking (and I hear dealers saying more retirees come in to sell a couple of Oz p/w) is so they may have a hoard, and collect a pension whilst selling 1 or 2 rounds p/w to buy extra food or fuel or alcohol, without having to declare it as an income. It is just a little extra luxury. It is prepping but prepping for retirement, not SHTF. In reality, the fan has already been shat on for a lot of retirees who dont have enough now because of the cost of living. SHTF for our elderly, is here and now.

I see a transitionary period that could get ugly. Like minded people will begin trading with it almost immediately. As soon as others see it's value then they will trade with it. Care should really be taken though because those who don't have it will try to get it however they can. Therefore I think stacking some paper would be wise to get through the transition period, as it will be recognized as money even after it really isn't anymore. Then ease into using pre-'65 90% with select strangers. There will likely be a lot of fakes being passed so well worn constitutional money will be easily vetted as legit. Also, it may even be declared/rumored by gov't /media that P.M.'s are worthless relics in order to encourage use of some other made up currency they'll invent to ease hysteria and keep control, while hoarding all the P.M.'s THEY can. All that said, other items will likely be recognized as currency. A box of .22 shells would be hard to counterfeit and would hold real tangible value, not mentions it's small size and fractional possiblities.

If someone walked in with an oz coin, silver or gold change would not be available. My only suggestion is well thought out. There will be no internet. So if everyone grasps this concept it is a fair starting point. In 1964 the USA went off the silver standard and went to fiat paper.
If we take the cost of goods and services in 1964 based on silver, we can establish a base starting point for trade and goods and services.
1- gallon of gasoline was between .27 and . 32 depending on local taxes. A 1964 silver quarter pretty much bought a gallon of gas.
2024 a 1964 silver .25 quarter is worth about $4.00 in fiat. A current gallon of gas is about $3.75 based on local taxes.
So the thesis is 60 years later in SILVER COINAGE you can still get the same amount or close to value in objects and goods and services. Similarly the gold to silver ratio in 1964 is pretty close to the same value trajectory.
With that math fundamentals in place, you can get pretty close to fair market value on almost anything. Gold a Silver ( Brass) and on brass I’m not talking about it as a commodity, you should be able to do day to day fundamental trading of services and goods.
So print out your charts on 1964 values of bread, milk, gas, wages, and so forth and you have the start of a base of fair trade in precious metals again. I refer to this as the great reset.
Everything went south when we became a debtor nation.
Also older US pre 1964 silver coins are 90% silver and 10% copper.
Gold is gold. That’s just my thought on how to value everyone’s silver and gold equally. Of course their will bee scammers and a holes working to screw you over.
Things I guarantee that will Nat be available will be firearms. At that point you have missed the boat and most likely won’t make it a week

Shift your paradigm to the value of goods & services. E.g. in 1960's, gasoline was a quarter (90%, 0.18 oz). Today that same silver is $4.10, about the price of hi-test gasoline today. In 1964, the price of labor was $1.25 minimum wage, or 5 of those 90% quarters. The same hour of work is about $20, today, the same as the value of that silver.

The major point was NOT to try and barter PM coins or bars in public because that would attract unwelcome attention and make you a target for a home invasion and once invaded your chances of survival diminished starkly! The advice was to collect gold wedding bands and use them for barter and trade as they did not draw attention and can be used quietly, with downcast face, from “wedding finger” to purchase. Collecting a store of second hand 22ct wedding bands is more expensive than buying coins or bars in my experience but they are a different form of PM insurance to cover the immediate needs of a currency collapse.
