Pferd CC-Grind are better. That's coming from someone that used to love the Cubitrons. For hogging metal or putting a bevel on pipe the CC-Grind are unreal.
Cut the 10 and 12 welds...see the depth of penetration...I bet the 10 stick is alot deeper than the 12 one and would actually be a usable/valid weld...800/10 = 80amps per stick if they were all arching at the same time. Do a few weld preps on some 1-1.5" at 90 degrees and butt joints and stuff and see how well it penetrates and makes a bead. All I gotta say is DANG what a huge arch and wall of smoke! That big ol' welding rig can sure sling some metal and make some sparks...and it didn't even bog down...just kept on howling begging for more!!!!
Reminds me of 35 years ago welding up the kelly bar on the Big Stan drill rig. I air arc 5" x 6" V and welded it shut. I was using 1/4 rod with a gas powered miller 400 dc on a trailer, that was 20 years older than me. The stinger would get so hot burning just 1 rod, that I split the stinger and had 1 stinger soaking in 5 gal bucket of water and welding with the other. That old miller 400 would be lugged down so far burning thru 1 rod the doors were rattling and it was hopping around on the trailer.
Well now, we've got our definitive answer to the question *_"What if styropyro got an 800A welder (but actually remembered PPE for once)?"_* Who's the psycho asking that question, though?! You're out here directly changing weather patterns with these flux clouds! 😂🤣
With that whimpy cable you exceeded tha capacity to achieve meaningful test results as the cable was limiting the current that you were welding with, get bigger or bouble up the cables and re-test at upper limits! This machine is a beast to reach beyond the cables capacity. Ray
This is the creativity and fun I love to see welders have. Brings the inner pyro child out of you to explore and experiment the possibilities. Love to see you are still having fun after years of doing such professional repair work
Let’s put twin turbos on that Miller and see what happens. This was an awesome video. Thanks guys keep up the good work it’s nice to see you guys play sometimes. God bless.
I don't know what to say about this one!!! I always learn something useful from you videos....., my take aways are WOW, That's a really bright light!!! If your really board, you could always try refreashing a 12v car battery with 800amps!! I bet it doesn't take long!!
Given that 10 and 12 rods burn the best, the true test of course is overhead, 800amps 10 rods and then 12 rods to see which is the true champion multi rod winner. One could call such a competition, The World Multi Hot Rods Championship! I wonder, how thick a piece of steel could you burn through with 6010 @800amps? I have used 6010 to cut steel, its not nice but it does the job when you get stuck! Great video and idea young man!
Finally a welding machine that can plug-weld 10mm sheets without pre-drilling... 🤣 I would expect that every smoke detector in a 200 yrd circle would go off when you start to work like that... The test piece really derserves it's place as a wall hanger! Thx for showing! 👍👍👍
Definitely use the Speedglas in front of the camera - it's just blinding and maybe damaging for TV screens without it. My suggestion: I'd like to see that same type of plate in 2 pieces, beveled and attempt a single pass giant weld with whatever number of rods seems optimal. Whichever made the best weld beads on the first test. Appreciate your vids as always!
Hello Greg, pretty impressive. I have a Miller Pipepro 400. At times I like it other times I hate it. Been thinking about just going back to a Lincoln with a DC generator.
3:43 joke question - What's the best settings to weld your welding rods? one thing I really would like to see is using proper rods like the 1/2 inch e7018 rods got some gifted to me as a joke sadly my cute machine just wouldn't handle them not sure why lol
the first covered electrodes were wrapped in paper, maybe try wrapping that 3/4" hot rolled round bar with news print......it will put off CO2 when it burns.... worth a try ?
Greg....wondering how well AC would run.... as large rods/high amps are usually run on AC........???? you need some water cooled leads with that sucker for sure.... PB
That's a good way to clean the contactors on your armature, LO. L maximum load like that would really clean up any kind of build up. Or deposition of dust.
Really interesting. is there a practical application for the 10+ rod @800 amp. ,,Tank plate welds ? What about flash welding of heavy material? I couldn’t help notice how the flat rolled became one with the plate in an instant.
At 800 amps you could run submerged arc welder. I would like you to try a bucket of lime paste (that's just builders lime mixed with a bit of water) like they used old school back in the early 1900's before ready fluxed rods were developed.
Question is are you actually receiving the full 800 amps through that small welding cable. Would be nice to see a clamp on it and maybe upgrade to some super large welding cable. Do they have anything bigger than 4/0. Or double up on it somehow
@@OFW I've used 5/16 in 223 arctec rod before. Basically a better grade of 7018. Wonder how many of those you could run? They suck up the amps pretty quick.
Weird question about your truck crane. I have the same stellar body with a 7530 crane with the cdtpro controller. Looks like you do also. Is your crane way to fast and hard to control for small precise adjustments? Coming from a Tiger 7643 to this stellar feels like I got a Chinese knockoff crane lol
Sometimes it’s jerky and acts like it looses connection. Very irritating when you have a load on it. I’m not impressed with the crane, but the body is nice.
@OFW I just switched to this body and crane. I didn't like the body at first, coming from an STI body, but it's growing on me. I put a support ticket in with Stellar about the crane so if they have anything reasonable to say I'll let you know also.
How about more pipe but dual shield with the 75/25 and the brazing flux? Also try with the flux only, you will have extra flux from what is collected on the ID of the pipe.
The lights in my house dimmed while I watched this! 🤣 Damn, that was impressive!
Now let's see how many 3M Cubitron discs it takes to clean up your test plate.
Quality 😂
Pferd CC-Grind are better. That's coming from someone that used to love the Cubitrons. For hogging metal or putting a bevel on pipe the CC-Grind are unreal.
Lol. Maybe none (just flip it over).
Better put that thing on the vertical mill :)
Just one, and she would still have some life in her
When the boss says you must do multi passes and its Friday 4PM and you want to go home for the Weekend. Proceeds to Weld with Rebar
😂😂😂 that was awsome
For science, 1/2" solid bar wrapped in 7018 rods.
Rods to provide the shield? 🤔
Good idea!
@@dans_Learning_Curveexactly, it would be like a huge welding 7018 rod.
You should see the Specialty welding rods we use in the ship yards. From a 1/4" to 1".🤯🤯Gas hollow rod welding is actually a thing.
Can i see the rods bro no homo but it does sound bad ass gass hollow rod ??
The warranty department of Miller is watching
Good. I hope so
Sorry its not covered will be said
What will they get him for? Burning rods?
@@MeticulousMetalWorks
1. Rebar
2. Angle iron.
3. LoL 🤣😆
Fun stuff! 😁
It’s no different than air arcing. This machine is made to do this kind of stuff.

Well, that was fun. Enjoyed the scientific research.
Different metals, w/wo flux, Different metals wrapped with rods. 😮
I enjoyed this it was cool. Please make more videos, you are doing science.

That is an incredible bead made by the 12 rods! IMO the best of the bunch.
Truly awesome.
I’ll remember this next time I “crank that bad boy up” to 200.
Right? OFW preemptively doing his best Crocodile Dundee impression
_"You call that a weld bead?_
*_THIS is a weld bead!"_*
That friggin spark and flame on 1 stick was phenomenal!
The thumbnail reminds me of the scene in Coneheads where he smokes a whole pack of cigarettes all at once 😂
Yummy, whole pack.
That made me laugh
I am humbled with my 500 amp machine. Absolutely amazing. Thank you and Stay Safe.
If the supervisor complains on the jobsite I will show him this video to explain why I am doing it "its the future of welding boss"
all your video's are presented with excellent narration
Fill 3/4"-1" iron tubes with as many 7018 rods as you can fit for better heat control and use gas too. Great high amp video❤
It will be similar to a mini thermic lance, but used for welding instead of cutting.
I watch UA-cam continuously and this is hands down one of the best clips ever!!! 🤣🤣🤣👍👍🌞
Thanks for the show!
That's just brilliant man thank you for sharing all over it
The pigeons came in 😂 that's hilarious, I was guessing 10 would be the best try a 1 inch winch cable
Greg...you are Nuts, I knew there was a reason I subscribed to your channel when you first started.....
best wishes. Paul
Greg: This one is 24 - 1/8" 7018 rods at 800 amps. Me: "Why would anyone do such a thing?" Greg: "Because I can!" 🤣 Jacob, you have a great boss!
when I got my Pipepro400 I ran a few 1/4" 7018's at full bore, that was fun! those Miller engine drives are no joke
That big Miller welder outside producing that much welding current Greg..WOW would of liked to see it, bet the cables got HOT lol!
100% my favorite Welding video now

0:12 Oh, man. This is a departure. I dig it. Nice rig too, super fancy.
I can't believe that lead held up and I like how much that plate warped.
I am also surprised.
i see so many crazy videos but this is by far the best one 👌👌
My 800 air pac is not working.... Miller rep yes we saw the video Sir.

Good Show!! You may have found a quick and dirty method for hard facing excavator buckets.
Maybe some mixtures of rods, steel and copper? Might look cool
Welders sure are some special type of people..

Great video, what amps are you running?
Try welding with rebar but cover it with some dry sand. This should work pretty good
They definitely start up better that way!
Have a feeling this guy had a bunch of rods he forgot in an oven somewhere and decided to have some fun 😂
Interesting, very interesting next try larger welding cable and 800 amp stinger. 5/32 and 3/16 rods

drill bits might be fun. great machine man👊
That was awesome Greg, try the largest available rod, I believe 7024 comes in pretty decent sizes.
I have been looking for them. Can’t find them.
4:04 they should get rid of the fume warning drawing on rod cans and just put a screen shot of this lol. Thank you guys for sharing your experiment!

Thank you for showing us 800 AMP annihilation!
You should check The Jackson Brothers vlog 23 welding D11 lugs useing 7 rods.
I must say very very impressive
Very impressive! My Suggestion is to knock off the flux of your left over 7018 and try "under Power welding" with 1/2" rebar again.
That's a good way to clean the contactors on your armature, LO. L maximum load like that would really clean up any kind of build up. Or deposition of dust.
I like this cameraman edition lol

Tool time tim Taylor would be proud 💪
Cool one of a kind video
Do a T joint with that 1inch plate.just a single pass on each side with the 10 to 14 rod set up. Cut it , see what penetration ya get
A thermal view is something that might interest you.
Heat and Thermal views are pretty cool..

Cool experiment s. Would you ever use 12 rods at 800amp on a job? Like your next twisted/bent arm video you welded new machined piece on???
At 800 amps you could run submerged arc welder. I would like you to try a bucket of lime paste (that's just builders lime mixed with a bit of water) like they used old school back in the early 1900's before ready fluxed rods were developed.
Try a bucket pin. Idk. Very interesting. I agree; ten, twelve, and fourteen looked reasonable. The rest were all turds but it was fun. Cheers.
great video
Nice Shop.
I think the 17 looks the best. Surprised the able didn't melt off the end of the handle.
Greg, would to see a cross section cut & etch to see how your penetration infusion looks.

I’m thinking about doubling up 4/0 and seeing what that does. I definitely think there was a power loss.

the smoke is amazing, looks like an oxygen lance
That was violent 😂😂 and awesome 😂😂
Nice test 👍🏼

Gross is 30k. Not sure of the front to back.
We used to weld bridge girders with quarter inch and 3/8 we call them baseball bats you got to run the heat hot
That was so Wild shit, bro!
😮😮😮 👏👏 good show ol boy!
1/2 arc gouge at any amps . I've got a 700 dual op and haven't got to try out yet
