4. There is NO room for mean people on board the Life Boat. Because we discuss very sensitive things from people’s past, here in our group setting, we have to protect those people. The only way they’ll feel confident and comfortable discussing those things is in an environment free of trolls and mean people. So if you’re a mean person or a troll, we are going to block you for life. Sadly, there are people in this world who enjoy being cruel, solely for the sake of being cruel, that’s not going to fly here.
But if you're here to learn how to live your best life, beat addiction and live a sober life, then you'll find that The Life Boat is just that .. A Life Boat.

If you are feeling low, put a smile on your face (fake it) then, relax your face, smile again. Do this a few times and you WILL feel better. It's an Empath trick I learned. I think it has something to do with the vagus nerve, and stimulating it, which changes your emotions.

Another trick, which I learned from Mel Robbins, is to give your reflection a high five every time you look in the mirror. Sounds STUPID, I know, but it's a similar psychological "hack" backed by science. You give high 5s to people if they've done good work, you receive them for the same reason, it's an act of bonding, so it's a way to establish/reinforce confidence, encouragement, and a sort of partnership with yourself. It's almost impossible to have negative thoughts about yourself in the moment you do you due to lifelong associations everyone has with high 5s. They've done studies with sports teams, NBA in particular but probably others, where teams that give out more high 5s often outperform teams that do not.

I have to get my remaining impacted wisdom tooth removed in a couple hours. Last time - 10 years ago - I was given diazepam before, nitrous oxide during, and hydrocodone after. This time I *ahem* "get to" be stone-cold sober with none of that stuff. I've had some bad experiences at dentists, this will be my first time even meeting this one, so I'm pretty nervous! 😬

@@HowHeLovesMe Thank you Joanna (And Cultivate Kindness!) It went very smoothly! They gave me 6 numbing shots, and had it pulled all within 5 minutes. The numbing shots took effect instantaneously, but also wore off very quickly. I was amazed by the efficiency.
