    I love these videos. I have watched almost all of them. I watch at least one every night before I go to bed. I plan on starting to screen print after the holidays. I would love to make a small shirt shop in the small town I live in, but if I just do this for family and friends that will be ok. Love the videos

    Jonathan, I did my first paid screen-print job tonight! (well this morning 1:17 AM) There is a learning curve switching over to plastisol inks from water-based inks! I bought out this print shop and I have so many chemicals I don't know where to start. They all have letters and numbers for names. I found that you can't use water with PW4 very well so IR4 seems to be a better fit for my lazy self. If I don't have any out there I'm going to have to stop by your website. Thanks for the video!

      LOL, yes I suppose that could be difficult to sort out. But at least you have a head start with working in water based first. If you need any help give me a call. I'll do my best. If you are reusing the screen with the same color ink, can you just store the screen with the ink in of the screen onto a rack ? Would i need to keep the screen image flooded to prevent it from drying out ?

    I use paper rags towels for industrial use as well as regular paper towels from Costco. The plastisol ink solvents are "ink wash" and "press wash." I’m pretty sure this video explains the uses. Thanks so much for watching and dropping me a note. ☠

    again, thank you for an informative video! one question: being a hobbyist printer working on a budget, like myself, how do you feel about cutting corners on the chemicals? I've found straight mineral spirits does a great job at removing uncured plastisol, and its readily available - a big plus for me when a job needs done, and dont have a local supply house to attain chemicals. Also, for absorbency, ive found using an old rag or trash shirt to scrub does a FAR more effective job than paper towel

    thank you sir, your videos have taught me all i know about screen printing the rest has been trail and error ha ha, do you recommend a good brand of water base ink solvent? I have problems removing a gold water base ink it creates stains on clogs the screen as well, I will probably try the thinner. thank you for the good work and detail that you put in every video they are very inspiring and educative.

    Same procedure but you’ll need to use a solvent for water based inks. Press wash and screen wash for water based ink would work well. Not all plastisol solvents will work well with water based but some do. Paint thinner is always good for water based as well. Thanks so much for watching and dropping me a note. ☠

    @eskolitt Maybe a similar technique but as water based inks tend to get tacky and sticky fast when in thin layers, I might use a slightly damp rag to wipe them out first and then use water. But you can also use a solvent because the haze is most likely dried ink left on the emulsion. It can leave a thin stain or film. Perhaps a little thinner on a rag would remove the ink haze after the screen dries of water. Glad you like the videos! Thanks for watching & commenting! ☠

    @esante00 Thanks you. Mesh will last a very long time. When the fabric is stained and the fibers begin to fray, that’s when it’s time to re-stretch. Or when they lose too much tension then you need to do it too. Thanks for watching & commenting! ☠

    after cleaning the ink do you have to wait for the screen to dry before applying the emulsion remover?

  • @CatspitProductions

    The tape on the sides blocks the ink from passing through the mesh between the emulsion and the frame edges. You can use old emulsion or blockout to do the same thing if you like. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    Hi I use thinner to remove water base paint dry in my mesh and it worked but left some pin holes. I buy RhinoClean HR 2800 to clean it but this broke my mesh. this needs to be diluted with water or make something special before applying? ..
    I hope you can answer my question soon and thank you for all these videos.

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  13 років тому

    @tourettestrickenshan Sure mineral spirits or thinner will do fine. But most people seem to want something that doesn’t smell too much and is friendlier to the user and/or environment. Also solvents that are nonflammable are a plus. I sometimes use an eco-thinner that is nonflammable and is drain safe. And yes, rags are way better than paper towels if you can use them. Thanks for watching & commenting! ☠

      Plastisol ink will not clog easily so you must be using water based inks. Once they dry in the mesh, the screen may be ruined. • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 років тому +1

      IR4 is mainly for plastisol inks. IR5 is for UV, solvent and water based I believe technically. I see my product description is the same for both. That is an error. Basically the PW4 and IR4 are for plastisol textile inks and the PW5 and IR5 should be for UV, solvent and water based. Let me check on that and fix these product descriptions. And I may have stock for IR4. Perhaps I forgot to reactivate the product. I'll check tomorrow. You should email me on this so I can put it in my cue and reply. Thanks for watching. Where can get that spray to clean the link from my screens? And what is the name of it?

    Sometimes when i clean ink off of my screens the emulsion will start to crack and mess up the stencil, does that mean i should expose it a little longer after i wash out the stencil before printing? Just to harden the emulsion?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 років тому

      +franchisejr15 Possibly, yes. Unless you are using the wrong emulsion for the ink you are printing. But yes, under exposures will make screens break down easy and could possibly make them unable to be reclaimed. Make sure your emulsion is fully cured and that you're using emulsion for plastisol or water based inks specifically. Thanks for watching. Without knowing what's available to you there, I could only recommend paint thinner or mineral spirits. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

    If it’s an air dry ink that dried in the mesh and on the emulsion the screen may be ruined. Try using lacquer thinner and then emulsion remover with a pressure washer. Thanks for watching & commenting! ☠

    great video!
    what is that water spray station called and how much does it cost to install one plus plumbing for drainage?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  10 років тому

      Thank you! That’s a washout booth: catspitscreenprintsupply.com/ranar-econo-back-light-washout-booth/ It can be installed anywhere you have access to tap water and a floor or other drain. If you do not have a drain then installation costs will be dependent on your plumbing needs. You can set up and install the unit yourself with PVC piping and glue as long as the drain is already there. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

    Hey there. I have a question. So I have a silk screen it's been about awhile since I used it. I didn't get it completely clean though. The ink and everything is gone but I can still see the image that I printed. I used the stencil method. I got the basic stencil screen printing kit by speedball. I was wondering if there's any way I can get the image out? Since it's been so long? Thanks.

    If you want a solvent for both types of inks then paint thinner will suffice. Or lacquer thinner. But they are pretty harsh all around. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

      Sounds like you have ink staining the mesh. try a haze or stain remover with a pressure washer to remove that. Otherwise it will impede the ink flow in those areas. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

      White plastisol ink should be very easy to clean from the screen. It sounds like you may be using water based inks. You’ll need a solvent for cleanup on that. Thanks for watching!

    You can try using screen opener but if it was some air dry water based ink or enamel ink the screen may be ruined. See my video collection for videos on screen opener and how to use them. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    If you plan on using the same print on the screen you use, how long can it be kept for before you need to remove emulsion and do the emulsion again?. So what im going to be doing is about 2-4 designs on 4 diff screens, so I don't need to keep reclaiming all the time, is it needed to reclaim the screens a lot? or leaving it done but clean the paint off ok to do, stored in a dark space?. Also im using waterbased paint, so to clean it with water and wash it through with just that is ok to do?Thank you and your videos are very helpful.

      Thanks glad you enjoy my video work. Please make sure to subcribe. No you can clean the screens of ink and store them indefinitely. As long as the emulsion was fully cured before usage they should reclaim at any time. I keep them for years and then reclaim as needed. Even if they don’t normally a print run or 2 with any given job pays for the screen and some. Some water based inks will clean up with water. Others need a solvent. Check with the ink maker for details. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

      Ok thank you for the info, I just did my first emulsion and cure, think it didn't go to well, bubbled when I layed it down so I guess I used to much emulsion then tried to add another coat, but didn't fully dry and the image not only burned through only one side but it ate the stensil..lol..oh well shit happens..so I coated again this time using less and we will see tomorrow if it works out well. The thing im concerned with is the time frame for the burn, I have a yudu as im just starting, and starting to think to build my own screen and machine would be a lot easier..lol..what time frame do you recommend and I wont hold you to it to burn my image? using the yudu, im not sure the lights they use so the time is confusing. Im thinking from yours and everyone elses videos it can range from 3-6 mins but with yudu it seems like 8-10. I don't know..lol..anything you can offer I would appreciate it and shit if you need someone to help hire me..lol..talk soon. and I will subscribe. Please if you like visit the website I just created being tech for dummie kinda guy and its for a great cause. Talk soon. Thnak you..David. www.danielshiddenheroesebok.org/

      David George I use a photopolymer emulsion with an industrial black lamp exposure unit and 20x24 screens. My times are about 45 seconds or less. I use a scoop coat and coat the screen with a thin layer of emulsion. Check out my play lists for tips on screen making.

    I was thinking about buying the (Screen Printing Kit) but the only way for me to clean the screen is in my kitchen sink. I
    have no room for a Washout Booths, so is it a bad idea to start
    a screen printing business from my apartment?
    Thanks

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 років тому +1

      You might be able to start your business from an apartment by you will definitely need a place to do screen making if you want to be a real commercial shop. Screen making is probably one of the most difficult parts of the process and having the right equipment to do the job will help out greatly. That doesn't mean you need to buy a washout booth but you would need an area to work with your screens and chemicals and you would certainly need a pressure washer. So depending on where you can work around your apartment, you may or may not be able to do this from there. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
