Today in game show history(12/7): The 71st anniversary of the birth of Peter Tomarken, the 26th anniversary of the premiere of MTV's Remote Control, the 23rd anniversary of the last first-run episode of Tic Tac Dough 1990, and the 44th anniversary of the birth of Zach Horan.
Of course, don't forget that there are a bunch of February and March 1986 episodes that have not aired since the original CBS airings. Someone could of played against the house during those gaps of time. If GSN decides to pick up the 1986 episodes, we will know for sure.
I think Jin is the only female to play against the house, if I recall - at least, what we know so far. Everybody else who played against the house were men.
Unless there was such a situation during the summer of 1986, there were seven cases of contestants playing against the house (And yes, Jin was the only lady) Here are the playing against the house episodes/dates in order: David (172-5/17/84) Kevin (237-8/17/84) Steve (470-7/15/85) Mark (499-8/23/85) Jin (510-9/9/85) Russ (551-11/5/85) Andy (631-2/28/86) Episode numbers may be one off....
“These guys are only cute when you’re at home watching them.” That raises an interesting question: How do the contestants see the Whammies? Does that middle panel become a screen when the cameras face away from it?
I think there're those little screens a little far away from the board. Then the contestants and Peter can look at them, but mainly they hear the whammy audio.
Jin, here's the deal. Because Bill and Edith both whammied out, you're the only one still in the game which means you would have to play against the house. So you got six spins. So you can take as many spins as you want. You could get one whammy and keep on going until you obviously work your way to get four whammies. If you get four whammies, obviously nobody would win and then all of you would be gone which means that we would have three new players on the next show. Then you would join Bill and Edith on a trip to whammy heaven.
I think that if you are playing against the house and you are, or put yourself, in a position where you can't whammy out (e.g. 0 whammies with 3 spins left - you can't hit 4 whammies with 3 spins), you should be forced to play it out.
Good thing they never had Add-A-One when Michael Larson was on the show. I guess it wouldn't have mattered in spin round 1. You'd still have to hit it, and there weren't many extra spins that round. Plus it wasn't in one of the patterns he had memorized. Good thing it wasn't in spin round 2, Larson could've been a millionaire......
From a superstitious perspective, I can see why she stopped - she stopped right after getting $3000 + a spin, and Bill and Edith each got Whammys immediately following their own hits of $3000 that round.

During the intro, I can see Coleen from her second show (May 8, 1985).

You can zap Edith to 2015, clothes and all, and she'll still look current.
For reference at 16:00 Jin, "wants to see Italian men."
"Sweet Virginia" to you!

Game over for both of Bill and Edith
13:22 - Bill is history
15:01 - Game over for Edith
That was a good option at the end. I never knew that was a choice in that kind of situation in the game.
Yea. I can understand that Jin wanted to quit while she was ahead. Poor Bill. Poor Edith. 😢

Wow! That was sad, man. Not for the winner, but sheesh. Oh and those two poems at the end were cute.
Much like on Legends Of The Hidden Temple in the 1 particular Temple Run where a player was captured by a Temple Guard shortly after time has expired.
13:21 & 15:00 Bill and Edith are history.
14:20 I think that is the sound from Whew! whenever a contestant called for a longshot.
wow, good call lol
Yep, that is...
A most unusual game.
Am I the only one who noticed Waikiki didn't appear until after Bill hit Acapulco?
So weird to have two Whammy wipeouts here.
oh my dayum a DOUBLE.WHAMMY OUT
TheDeviantUA-camr episode 499 racked up 11 whammies. I think that's the highest for one episode.
Corey M. Barnes that's insane
she has a great husband but wants to see Italian Men. LOL
Bill is the popular Dr. Bill Dorfman on the talk show The Doctors and other talk shows
I looked him up, he still looks good! Surprised his appearance here isn't on his IMDB.
Get out! Really? so, does that mean he's not a real Dr. he just plays one on t.v.?
I wonder if Edith went on to medical school?

She ain't no Michael Larson.
Interesting game haha. And Bill is handsoommmmme
Agreed, and he still looks good.
im surprised that this episode of Press Your Luck is the most viewed in my channel!
WHAMMY OUT FOR BILL AT 13:21 AND SO DOES EDITH AT 15:00.
Ashley Folden
Tough luck for those two that are whammied out. Could have been worse.
16:15 The board sticks (possibly leading to Jin's sole Whammy?)
The board sticks just like Second Chance!
Those prize trip videos look like they're from the 50s or 60s but in color.....
I wonder how many people actually played against the house?
Seven
As of now, including this one will be 6. I can do a compliation video of that plus a couple of others as i finish my normal uploads.
I think that if you are playing against the house and you are, or put yourself, in a position where you can't whammy out (e.g. 0 whammies with 3 spins left - you can't hit 4 whammies with 3 spins), you should be forced to play it out.
That wouldn't be fair since contestants can stop at anytime unless they are passed spins. That's taking away the choice since she won those spins.
13:24 - whammy cruise
I hope it hits an iceberg and sinks to the ocean floor.
@@tyrese3745 Much like the Titanic.
michael jackson whammy
I never heard the real music as clear as on Press Your Luck.
richard you are handsome
WHat is Jinn's last name?
Jin Meal

This must be the most cursed episode in the history of PYL.
Check out #225 and #284 if you think this was bad.
I think Jin should have kept going. She would have gotten more money.
From a superstitious perspective, I can see why she stopped - she stopped right after getting $3000 + a spin, and Bill and Edith each got Whammys immediately following their own hits of $3000 that round.
Bill and Edith Worst Players at 13:22 and 15:01
Well... it was simply bad luck. That's all.
Worse by not passing after having 3 whammies, that is.
Idents:
Casino (5 seconds; partial; 2nd clip)
Formation (5 seconds; partial)
Paper Fortune Teller (11 seconds; partial)
Formation (5 seconds; partial; again)
*See previous episode for 1st clip.
this show looked good!!! what happened to the funny old school contest show? now we're stuck in shitty reality shows
why did jin stop? she should have gone and gotten a little more.
And she could’ve saw Italian Men
