- Tree guards with built in thorns protect trees. With this type of tree guard, you will not have to worry about livestock eating or busting off your trees. If they rub against the spikes on the tree guard, they get an unpleasant poke that makes them stop.
If you want to keep your farm profitable every year, check out my 3 grazing books that I wrote on our website: greenpasturesfa...
Yall that want this fence, check out how its made, they simply cut every other wire and bent it outwards on the ends, could simply be made with some cutters and welded wire fencing. Thanks for showing us Greg.
Cut a bit diagonal for sharper points
It’s not made like that at all. All the spikes are electro-welded on. Cutting would be very slow and would not produce this pattern with sharp points.
Tim, that is what I'm thinking. Those spikes sticking out were very sharp and welded on the wire.
It would be great to find a US dealer of these… I got 60 acres of pasture that I want to plant chestnut/persimmon/crab apple/pear/black locust/mulberry into!
I graze a new orchard planting with my sheep, and have found I can lay electric fencing right against white tree tubes and they never will rub on those trees since white means get shocked. The owners are going to leave them on for 7 years.
Love this project - great idea. Long term thinking for sure.
Thanks for the video! I saw something like that in Wisconsin. They keep the wildlife and livestock off your trees. I’m wondering what would work here for thorny bush without being invasive. I bet black raspberries or red raspberries would work if you keep it trimmed with sheep.
How do you pull it after the bushes grow through it all.
Thanks for the video!
Where can you get those cactus guards
That’s a good idea!
How well would this work with goats? Goats give me the most trouble.
Goats no problem!
That *thorn bush* tree guard is an incredibly intelligent product. Is it available in the United States?
Not sure, I'm guessing someone carries them.
Why not just use fencing with tight enough spacing like 4"x4" or 2"x4" to keep the livestock out?
Because they will rub on it and push on it (and in the case of goats, try to stand up against it).
It just doesn’t work. This approach is a deterrent ie they won’t want to touch it. Other guards attract rubbing with inevitable damage
Cattle would use something like that as a play toy to rub on and throw around. You would never keep them on a tree.
I learn so much from this channel. Thanks guys!
@@gregjudyregenerativerancher Not true, they are designed, tried and tested with cattle of all classes and sizes.
