@heretorecord I was hoping you could clear up something, where I have been unable to get a straight answer. For Virtual Production or Green Screen, do you actually NEED the Studio Converter when using a Blackmagic Studio camera, or can you do the work without it?
Hi Thanks for the video .. Is it possible to run multiple BM Studio 4K Pro cameras ( x3) , Via POE ethernet - if on a Decent router switch ? or need a 1 for 1 - Studio convertor for 1 x BM Studio 4K Pro camera?
Good Stuff, Thanks. Do you think they will make a converter for more than one camera and switch directly from the converter box instead of going to a switcher, so intern the converter becomes a switcher.
I wonder when we will see a way to do multi-cam 4K record and control. Is there a 4K version of this to take advantage of the 4K sensor? It seems all of their products scale down to 1080p60 for any kind of multi-cam workflow.
Very interesting product! But having it not work with the Extremes / other Atem Minis is disappointing! Let’s hope for a 20 input SDI 4K rackmounted switcher that we can control with our existing Minis/Streamdecks! 🤞
Thanks for the great video! Love the feature to send and extra feed to the hdmi out! I guess this converter would be even more awesome if blackmagic made their own ptz’s… Any thoughts on a blackmagic ptz camera?
$900 for the converter with no HDMI out, that only works with a Micro 4/3 camera... there has to be more coming. These still aren't in stock anywhere as well.
One thing I cannot find well documented is - how does the bi-directional talkback work? Do I need anything else between a TV Studio HD/Pro/Constellation, the Converter and Studio Camera 4K Pro to have comms?
John, to use the camera converter with the ATEM mini, you have the plug the bidirectional 3g converter into the computer to update the firmware and use the 3g converter app to assign the camera ID
@@heretorecord yes, this video is with the mini extreme. We can do zoom if you like. I’m DJ Jay Rock on your discord server. @Blackmagic Design Studio Converters and Studio 4 k pro cameras ua-cam.com/video/TO47p375Fi8/v-deo.html
Do you have an Ethernet cable plugged into the control port? When ever the control port is plugged into a network switch, the converter cannot send control data to the camera. The control port is not currently supported. That was the only issue that I had.
Hi! This is off base, but how sharp is the Studio Camera through your ATEM Mini Extreme? My current BM 6K is rather soft over HDMI with sharpening set to the highest level. I have the Sigma 18-35, which is very sharp when recording internally so I know it's not the lens or focusing.
Thanks John, nice overview... Jury is still out on this product, clearly aimed at a Pro SDI workflow, not at the ATEM Extreme... You say 'third party' talkback system, yes as I cannot see this been much use with say 4 cams and 4 Studio Converters all running in effect independently of each with no way of a director back at the switcher talking to the cam ops as a team - unless I'm missing something... You would need other extra kit switcher-end e.g. the Datavideo ITC-300 Digital intercom system and run a separate CAT6 cable to each cam from that for integrated talkback?
I'd need to try it out though I suspected that it would add the talkback into the SDI lines and therefore into your whole system, but if it's 1-to-1 then it would be strange to independent add a bunch of these to your setup.
Good day Thank you for your amazing useful videos I need your help if you can please I installed blackmagic setup as follow Atem television studio pro 4k Blackmagic studio converter Blackmagic studio camera pro 4k Connected via cat 6a All works well accept the talkback Can you please help me with that how it’s work. Thank you in advance
Can the SDI in/out still be used for Camera Control, while using ethernet with the Studio Converter ? In a sense, can this be used to connect 1 camera to 2 SDI based ATEM's, and synchronize the CC settings? I know it's a real edge case but, I wonder what happens and what takes precedence in this configuration. Same question for return feed *through SDI* vs through ethernet, which one takes precedence? Great video as always! :)
Yes, in fact the SDI Input on the camera was the only way I could get it to work on my ATEM Mini. The ethernet still works fine and CC was passed back via SDI. Not sure about the second question though at this moment
My dear friend thanks for explaining may i know the RETURN 1 & RETURN 2 from this device has the same functionality or may vary, Because i have tested this to see the preview in my camera from an ATEM device the return 1 slot is working unfortunately when i remove the SDI and plugged in return 2 slot i'm not getting the visual from my studio camera, please do help me with this thanks brother🙂
Return 1 is for sending a video signal to the camera and see it on the cameras screen. Return 2 is for sending another video signal back to the camera, attaching a HDMI monitor to the camera and seeing that Return 2 feed on that attached HDMI monitor!
Have you seen any latency in the setup? A easy way to see would be to take the output and loop into back into the return input and look at the return feed on the camera and see if there is any delay.
A couple of things I would like to see 1. Try a b4 lens on it. Please 2 what about a fibre to Ethernet converter would that work. Minus the POE of course
@@heretorecord I have two of the studios in a box I haven’t messed with yet. But I also have the new 12G bi directional converter. Let me try that today and see for some reason if it’s only the 3G.
Yeah that doesn't seem right. Also, make sure the version of the convertor you're trying to use is the "3g" or later. The micro convertors preceding these won't work.
Do you recommend getting the converter if we use the ATEM EXTREME ISO?
@heretorecord I was hoping you could clear up something, where I have been unable to get a straight answer. For Virtual Production or Green Screen, do you actually NEED the Studio Converter when using a Blackmagic Studio camera, or can you do the work without it?
Hi. What is the latency of the video passing through the ethernet cable?

Nice review. Does this give any similar capability to the URSA broadcast camera?
It certainly simplified the workflow, like the fibre backs on the URSA. Other than that I am not sure of other comparable details.
Blackmagic Studio Converter work studio hd?
Why don't they just make cat6 the standard cable from ATEM devices?
I do wonder if BMD will Integrate something like this directly into the ATEM switcher it’s self

I suspect not but that would be interesting to see!

I don’t think people realize how powerful this little unit is.

Just want to let you know that after updating everything for me the converter works great with the atem mini's. Maybe the issues have been ironed out.
@@charliefeld1201 Oh that's great to hear!

Absolutely! A PTZ from them would be super cool.

I have a question, Can you send a signal over fiber from the ATEM Talkback Converter 4K to a POE++ injector into the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro?
One thing I cannot find well documented is - how does the bi-directional talkback work? Do I need anything else between a TV Studio HD/Pro/Constellation, the Converter and Studio Camera 4K Pro to have comms?
Hope they send this out again so you can test it with the new ATEM SDI!
Thanks for this video! A question I had - does the single ethernet cable also carry along a signal for what would be the Return 1 and 2 feeds?
John, to use the camera converter with the ATEM mini, you have the plug the bidirectional 3g converter into the computer to update the firmware and use the 3g converter app to assign the camera ID
The camera also needs the latest firmware
Have you tried this? I updated everything!

Can confirm that it works with the atem mini series. I've tried it and after updating the camera and bi directional converter everything works great!
Hi! What about atem mini sdi, does it work?
Were you not able to get control with the bi directional

I think it depends on the lens - as far as I can tell. I have heard similar things from others using the zoom lenses, however mine seem to be sharp

Looks like the update they posted fixed the bi directional issue- I have it working now with a 3G converter and I get tally and such
I did install the latest version on the day I shot this video, keen to see if/where I went wrong though
Have you seen any latency in the setup? A easy way to see would be to take the output and loop into back into the return input and look at the return feed on the camera and see if there is any delay.
I accidentally created this loop while testing it and the delay was in the frames as far as I could tell.
Would it work the same with the new Ursa broadcast?
Oh I don't have one to try- They don't seem to mention that anywhere though
A couple of things I would like to see
1. Try a b4 lens on it. Please

Plus. Tie into a intercom system.
I don't have any of these to test at this time, but noted!
Hola, qué pasa? Solo PoE, no signal, no Cam?
update camera firmware
So you tried the bibdirectional hdmi/SDI and unlike if you took it directly to the camera, thru the converter you didnt get camera control?
Correct - There appears to be a clocking issue where the input and output feeds should be locked together.
