About the brightness, and at the same time about the darkness in winter:
He is in Helsinki, which is as north as Anchorage in Alaska. Thus, as most Canadians live very south, you of course haven't experienced the same.
Just to give you an example: Toronto is as south as Nice in France.

Scandinavia and Finland are about at the same latitude as Alaska, depending on where in Canada it''s a bit further north so there are longer times of dark in the winter and longer times of light in summers

Finland is warmer due to Golf Current and Föhn winds.

@@torpmorp1324 Sweden more so, and Norway even more (naturally), but I wasn't talking of the cold but the long times of sun and darkness.
Still it can get pretty darn cold, in the middle of Sweden, I've experienced -30 C.

But it's kind of relaxing when it's pitch black in 3 pm. And when there's snow it's whole next level. And in summer u'll get another one thinking its still evening, but it it's next morning. :D

Hai is german loan word in finnish. as is kekisi=biscuit. We just add i after all borrowed words like internet=internetti, Web=webbi...so it goes and best probably is laptop=läppäri :D

He was eating "super salmiakki", which a really strong type of the best candy in the world. For a Finn, it tastes like heaven, for a foreigner, it tastes like hell. For first timers, I would recommend the black panther candy (Pantteri) by Fazer, which is very mild in its salmiakki flavor and has much stronger sweetness from the sugar coating. I would also suggest Sisu pastils for singers and speakers, for its strong tar flavor that gives you the stength and willpower to push through solid rock.

Saku Koivu is not from Helsinki, but from Turku :)
I have seen quite a few japanese people having small percentages of Finnish in their dna testing. I think it is equivalent of many Finns getting native percetanges like mesoamerican or inuit. Not of course meaning people have those ethnicities in theis recent acestry, but that there are some ancent similarities between these groups.
This was a good vdeo. He spoke good finnish!

Canada is located approximately "as far in the North" as Finland, so surely there are places in Canada where the sunlight is never ending in the summer and never there in the winter?

Yes, but almost nobody live there because it's freezing cold.

@@MaxSujyNorden It's freezing cold as well in Lapland, sometimes to the ball park of -40 celcius, but I guess those Sami people are just different breed. I almost die when ever it hits -20 celcius and my car takes a day off. I hope Finland can go against Canada in the next hockey season. If you win, fine. If we win, Yaas!

Salmon soup is easy to make! You can also use other firm, fatty fish that doesn't smell too fishy. The end result is a simple, multi-hued soup, where you can recognize the clean flavors of cream, dill, carrot, potato, and mild salmon. Simply put, the flavor combination will blow you away. (when you get the soup balanced)

Above the Polar Circle there's 58 days without seeing the sun, that time is called "kaamos". There is some light in the sky though so it's not completely dark.

Tampere transportation doesn't take money, like cash since 2022 i think. everything is electric and via internet. Love it but downside is if all goes down side, Lol, we would be really fucked. Cash is allowed in most of stores and super or hypermarkets. Big cultural thing is that in Philippines there are some ppl hired to bag your shit. Here no, you pack your own shit and it's actually faster...bc you don't want grocery shopping to take hours...

The winters in Helsinki are mostly just wet and cold, Finnish food is mostly bland, discrimination towards people of African origin among the highest in Europe, spousal abuse too, alcoholism, highest rate of drug related deaths in people under 25 in Europe, etc. Helsinki might seem nice, Lapland too, but that’s the tourism side. Source: I’m Finnish.
Also; eukonkanto and all that quirky stuff is something almost _nobody_ does here, never, ever, but somehow it’s always mentioned because some hicks in a rural town do it.
