She was quite deliberate in her eccentric behavior in this interview! This was her way of saying "F$CK YOU" to puritanical American audiences-and also quite premeditated in triggering a reaction to gain publicity for herself...Beautiful and smart!
And an equal FU to Letterman and his twitchy preoccupations with her personal life, when he could have just focused on her work and incredible performances.
When I watch this, I see a no-nonsense European woman who had to deal with the immaturity and childishness of American audiences. Some of the comments on here are no better. I find her absolutely posh and intelligent. Nothing like the culture she was thrown to when she made waves with Tess' some 4 years earlier. She's easily one of the best actresses of her generation, and has contributed wonderful to the business in her day. Hats off to her, and thanks so much for this upload. It's a great watch.
She is beautiful without doubt but I live in the same city as her abd when she was invited on a local tv show she accused the makeup lady of stealing her purse and was odious then when proved wrong and refused to apologize. There are darker sides to her personality.
She is shy and doesn't like personal questions-she is probably tired of having to field questions constantly about the men in her life, father, directors, boyfriends and how much she resembles other actresses. And tired of having to always look like she just stepped out of Vogue.
She was a beautiful, interesting person. Her eccentricity was inspired by her father. I can tell he abused her. Anyone involved in the entertainment industry you have to question & look deeper.
She had a very unstable upbringing, and her supposedly eccentric hairstyle is just a bit of hairspray and youthful exuberance. She is very well spoken, considering English is her 3rd or 4th language. Letterman should have asked her fewer questions about the men in her life. He was intimidated by her beauty.
to be as normal as she is after being raised by someone like Klaus Kinski is remarkable. She is an amazing, intelligently well spoken person, and always has been gorgeous. It's a shame some of her films were duds, but, when they were really good...she was as well. Very well raised woman.
@irondaddymac No, he is not. He is still in Switzerland. In Gstaad to be exact. Waiting for the swiss courts to decide whether he will be extradited to the US.
What is the difference between her hair during the filming of "Cat people, la Féline" and there? During it was the same year, they couldn't grow so fast, except for a wig! Anyway, i loved her and even now with her short black hair. Besides, I would have liked to know how the scar on his left cheek came to him?
It's sad that people let their personal positive feelings towards others blind them to the gravity of certain behaviors of those people. If I'd been her I'd have said, "I worked for him because my job said I had to, but I find his actions to be revolting." There's nothing wrong with judging people according to the things they've done to others even if they've done nothing to us. The majority of the hollywood people who'd like him back simply have the attitude, "Hey. He didn't rape my daughter."
I always thought she did this as a goof. I hope the things people say about her being abused isn't true. I've heard really bad things about Klaus and Roman but I try not to judge people I don't know and I don't know their stories.
To whoever said that she "fucked Polanski when she was 15"--IT'S NOT TRUE! Please stop typing inaccurate information here. From all the interviews I've read on the internet, Kinski has repeatedly stated that she never had a love affair with Polanski in the past. But she loved Polanski because he took her seriously as an actress and he really cared about her as a person. She is definitely not a prostitute for Hollywood. Nastassja Kinski is an unique and very beautiful actress. Love her acting in "Tess" and "Paris, Texas"💗!
Boy you wanna talk about awkward and uncomfortable guests. Which for Dave are sometimes the most entertaining guests. Crispin Glover of course comes to mind lol.
What was she supposed to say, considering she was still in showbiz and probably still dependent on his good graces to get future parts...? Really, what could a young, 21 year-old actress do for us in regard to judging a man of his fame and stature. It's a bit unfair for her for us to demand that she divulge what she knows or say what she really thinks of him.
I don't understand what's immoral about it. They're both happy being together so why do you let these meaningless rules and taboos get to you. Think about it biologically; she appeared naked in almost 4 films before she was 15, other countries are much less puritan and prude than America.
Does anybody who behaves eccentrically have to be on a substance? Does it even matter if she was? She’s lovely. I find her quite relatable. I do have Aspergers and I’ve been accused of such things, but I just behave differently. I know this is an ancient comment, but it’s so harsh.
Andrea V Thank you! Anxiety is so painful. Especially the chronic “impending doom” type, the kind that is constantly terrorizing the afflicted person. Well, any manifestation of anxiety is horrid. I wish I could figure out how to make it stop!
NASTASSJA KINSKI ÚNICA!!!!!!!
Qué belleza tan especial y que talento❤
who ever said angelina jolie is the most beautiful has not seen Nastassja
Men like plastic
Angie is bruh. But she looks so much like the older actresses they mentioned specifically Bardot
Right!

Agreed!
Posh & Intelligent? LMAO…You’re not saying much for Europeans if that’s your critique.
That's Nasstasja...
She's coked up.
She is beautiful without doubt but I live in the same city as her abd when she was invited on a local tv show she accused the makeup lady of stealing her purse and was odious then when proved wrong and refused to apologize. There are darker sides to her personality.
one of the most beautiful women on earth
If there is any more beautiful woman then I've never seen her. She stole our hearts in Tess and in Paris,Texas
She's really the stunning image of her mum! Thank-God!
She's certainly eccentric, but you must remember, her father was -- literally -- a madman. As Lovecraft says, it's in the blood...
You are probably right , that was my first impression. Very eccentric, close to insane, her hair is terrible.
@@rascalhusky8129 yeah her hair stood out the most to me....
I love her eccentricity...it suits her well and She still looks good.
I remember watching this when it originally aired, and I'm still smitten with her.
She is shy and doesn't like personal questions-she is probably tired of having to field questions constantly about the men in her life, father, directors, boyfriends and how much she resembles other actresses. And tired of having to always look like she just stepped out of Vogue.
She looks so amazingly beautiful in this interview
labotamysausagedog Ashley Greene kinda looks like her lol.
Her hair is the shit! Avant garde nonchalance at its best
,,,she pulls off the ridiculous or artful hair.....the mark of true beauty
Fell in love with her in the spring of 1982
her eyes are magical
It’s called makeup
Wow forgot how jaw droppingly gorgeous she was.
Strange , complicated but very beautiful. Different .
this is a classic interview.
The best part of this show was John Candy came out right after with the same hair.

He was always working she says.
I may be wrong but she had a lengthy stint as a model with Richard Avedon. I think she left the photo shoot wearing this hair and makeup 💄
Bingo
Was any famous person in the 80s not on cocaine?
LOL
I was in love with her and I'm not gay, but simply love her. sexuality never entered my mind.
She is very sexy is a very real natural way.
She's so awkward and adorable in this clip
She has some of Klaus' mannerisms, the kibitzing hand gestures, speech patterns.
Wow. So sad. How messed up. 🙏
I feel like she was tired of being just a beautiful actress
She's very young here. I wonder what Nastassja would say if she sees this now.
She is much more confident than in her last Interviews.
I noticed that too. Maybe it's because she's been off the screen for quite a while.
Strange how she defends Polanski, but throws her father under the bus, and doesn't even attend his funeral for similar behavior.
She doesn't seem weird just nervous.
As a millenial i never seen this being aired
For a split second I thought it was Nina Hagen! X)
I adore this beautiful girl. Why I was not born in the 70s, such a girl .... my favorite face ..,i love..
Smart girl.
I wonder how her and Quincy Jones happened.
Echoch San Carlos Quincy fucked her hard! 😀

Cat people was filmed in the spring of 1981. This show was In December of 1982. That gave her over a year and a half to grow her hair out.
Interestingly her body language greatly resembles the one of her father.
I never realized how similar both are.

she is the most nice creature i have seen in my life...
she had gone straight to interview from fotoshoot.
I always thought she did this as a goof. I hope the things people say about her being abused isn't true. I've heard really bad things about Klaus and Roman but I try not to judge people I don't know and I don't know their stories.
Jonnie Depp claims to have had an 'interlude' with her when he was 12. Hats off!
Letterman got away so fast from her response to Polanski being in trouble if he comes back to the US ...he left skid marks.
Too bad she did not come to the show looking like Moon in The Gutter. Check her out in that film.

I can see she's very bothered by most of the questions.
It's still hard to believe she is Klaus Kinski's daughter.
Why is that hard to believe?
Tobey Starburst
Because she is so beautiful and he is so crrrAzy?
Why was her hair like dat
no she's like her mother not like his father who is a monster
What he did?
Boy you wanna talk about awkward and uncomfortable guests. Which for Dave are sometimes the most entertaining guests. Crispin Glover of course comes to mind lol.
WTF is she on?
is she coked out?
Love her.. not her promoting. Snowy 80s killed!
like her personality.. wish her stylist didn't do that to her lol
I forgot how bizarre she was.
Nice hair lol.
Funny how she doesn't have any interest in Mr. Polanski s crime.
What was she supposed to say, considering she was still in showbiz and probably still dependent on his good graces to get future parts...?

This is America: Violence and murder are good. Sex and nudity are evil.
Because if one isn’t eighteen they can’t give consent. Something like that.
Poor fool
what's with that hair?
She was in a photography session before the show
She has narcolepsy. She had to be medicated for it.
Jeez!! That was mean even for a youtube user! Lmao!
ridiculous
she appears to be on drugs........ YIKES

gelitripping kiddo agreed. Anxiety looks like this too.
Andrea V Thank you! Anxiety is so painful. Especially the chronic “impending doom” type, the kind that is constantly terrorizing the afflicted person. Well, any manifestation of anxiety is horrid. I wish I could figure out how to make it stop!
gelitripping kiddo yes I go through it too! I think in the time of Covid it makes anxiety a bit harder but also makes us stronger. Also, meds help 😆
