- RetroSkins has received requests for more pre-FedEx home games so let’s go back to the final Giants-Redskins match-up at beloved RFK Stadium. Home wins vs the Giants were hard to come by in the final decade at RFK (being fairly plentiful in years prior), but at least they got this one.
This ’96 Redskins-Giants match-up really paralleled the 1996 season for Washington - a spectacular first half followed by a shaky finish, doing just enough to come out on top. Terry Allen scored three one-yard touchdowns but it was really The Gus Frerotte/Henry Ellard Show in the first half. Leslie Shephard sparkled in setting up Allen's first score on a nifty double reverse, and Darrell Green went old school with a 69-yard tip-drill interception return to put the Redskins up 28-0 at halftime. To their credit, the G-Men under Dan Reeves (a class act, for the record) never quit, staging a furious second-half rally that made things a little too interesting for Norv Turner and the hometown fans.
With Matt Millen and the venerable Dick Stockton on the call, the Redskins hang on to sweep the Giants and extend their early season winning streak to six games.

Back when nothing else on the planet mattered during those 3 hours. Just pure focus, excitement, passion, and intensity for our Redskins. Sad that those days are gone, but maybe, just maybe, we get a new owner and he drops Dan Snyder's C-word.

The 95-97 Redskins team with Gus, Allen, Ellard, Green and the rest are a RetroSkins favorite. A lot of fans here agree with you, too.
Many forget about Terry Allen he was a warrior
I find it absolutely amazing that Dave Brown lasted 10 years in the nfl. A dead body could have played better than him.
9:06 that interception return for a touchdown was ridiculous. I have never seen someone beat that big of an angle with just plain speed. nobody else in history gets a pick six on that play IMO
Today's Redskins need to play like this against the Giants this Sunday like this Redskins team did.
If only there were "today's Redskins"... sigh.
6-1 at that point. Didn’t the skins go on to lose all but one game the rest of the way? That trend or the reverse ( lose first and go on a streak of wins) will continue until this day. Miss the playoff in most. It’s been a long 3 decades.

Agree in one sense but now I remember it fondly. I really liked the 95-97 teams.
@@RetroSkins Same here. Watching Gus’ rise to being the fan fave. Terry Allen playing lights out. Tre Johnson being a earthmover. I also like Norv. I know some fans didn’t like him, but I liked that he was given a chance. Too bad Snyder started meddling in 2000
