I feel bad for those beautiful animals. There is too much stimulus going on around them. And have to be mauled all day by tourists is enough to make any horse go a bit wild. The Palace should be more strict on what the tourists can and can't do.

@deedeegreen8338 I so agree from amateur point of view. The horse wasn't given time to settle ( not a criticism- just fact ) and was adamant about being instantly led through. Very determined and most likely very bothered about something. Smell of something?? Guard would not be pleased at nearly being thrown in heavy uniform. Have seen mum when I was little girl spend ages calming some, but she had time and patience. This horse was due for Guard shift. Very difficult situation all round. Hope they soon sorted him.

Wow wonderful control from this awesome guard. When something spooks a horse it’s the fact the horse can’t make out what is seen by them. They react in a flight path. Flags, umbrellas, hats, I’m not sure about colors but some hollering loud noises will spook a horse if they can’t identify that sound. I trained trail riding horses and there are certain tree shapes that will spook a horse. If they can’t identify it they might get spooked. Horses don’t see right in front of them . But a more side view. They can be confused with busy patterns also. Horses are the most exquisite animals created.

Vrry unusual day. One belligerent horse. The guard inthe long tunnel who had just posted was swaying, then buckling at the knees and barely made it to the most inconspicuous archway out of sight leaving his post unprotected. I believe they are instructed to do that rather than faint face girt onto the oavement in front of a crowd. Then the replacement horse filling the same arch that the rebellions steed was to guard also began to act up. Seems like there may be an illness going around with the guards.❤❤❤❤❤

That man handling the horse on the ground was not police, the police were obvious. The handler was another Guard in his working uniform, and he saved the day, as well as the Guard astride. My brother is USMC Colonel. He has many uniforms. Some are beautiful. I once put on his jacket he wore in combat, he has worked at the Pentagon for some time now, and I couldn't even barely walk, it was so heavy with protective elements. I don't know how they do it. God save all Marines, Soldiers, and Sailors. These men and women at the Horseguards have been there, done that.

Also, I don't believe the general public understands just how unnerving it is to horses to constantly have to stand still in place while many strangers come up, try to touch, get too close and take pictures with all their strange smells (yes, people smell) right in front of the horses. People should be more aware, I'm surprized there aren't more serious incidents with the volume of people there.

IMO, I don't think these horses are cared for properly and obviously don't enjoy what they are doing. Even a fast food worker/cashier has a mat to stand on. Why on earth should these horses be forced to stand on brick/concrete for extended periods of time? WHY can't they have stall matts there to stand on? I know there are "special shoes" for riding on hard surfaces, but these horses are standing in one place. Even a dog gets arthritis from living on concrete. I can imagine that when these horses are "retired," they have arthritis. ARE they actually sent to pasture with arthritis and their (deservedly) developed nasty attitudes for the rest of their lives? I have an opinion about that, too.

When I was young, I used to work with problem horses. The most dangerous thing I ever had were the ones that rear up. If they go over backwards, it can kill you. This guy was a real pro. He stayed calm and didn’t get off. You can’t, or they know that will work, if it is a problem horse. But my guess is that this horse would not be there if he had a habit like this. Much to dangerous.

@@Christianne-md2nd Oh well, good. The key take away is don’t get off if you can avoid it. Most horses will NOT go over backwards on themselves all by themselves!!!! That happens when the rider pulls back on the reins and effectively pulls the horse over backwards themself!!! Very sad and dangerous business! Never pull back on the reins when a horse is rearing up. You must allow their head the freedom to get in position to come back down. Gravity………. Up and over is almost always the fault of the rider.

It's torture to stand still for the guards, even more so for the horses... if the animal isn't really willing to collaborate with the human, keeping it so close to the mouth has the opposite effect, you have to give space, but the guard changing times don't allow you to have the right time for the poor horse... but does anyone know how long the guard shifts last?
