  • This is the third in a series of computer science lessons about wireless communication and digital signal processing. In these lessons you’ll learn about the nature of electromagnetic radiation, digital modulation and multiplexing techniques, and how to get the best out of mobile communication systems such as LTE, 5G and WiFi. This lesson takes a closer look at the radio frequency bands of the electromagnetic spectrum. You will learn how these RF bands are used by various industries including marine, submarine, aviation, science, engineering, medicine and broadcasting. You will also learn that the higher frequency bands are particularly important for mobile communications and WiFi. The impact of frequency on how far a radio signal can travel and how much data it can carry, is discussed. The impact of the amount of power that a radio signal contains, and how power is measured, is also mentioned.
    Chapters:
    00:00 Radio frequency bands
    06:46 WiFi frequencies
    08:27 Radio signal power

I thought microwave ovens were 2.4 GHz! I just asked ChatGPT and it said 2.45 GHz. Anyway, I'm going to try to remember as much as I can from these videos.

Iower Frequency, hz (longer wIength) travel further. E.g. 4G. Higher carry more data. E.g. 5G. Wifi band that use 2.4ghz travel further than 5.8ghz but carry less data, slower speed.

Yes, but take care with the word 'speed'. All radio signals travel at the same speed (in the same medium), regardless of frequency. Better to talk about the rate of data transfer (i.e. the baud rate) rather than speed.

2.4 GHz wifi communications are able to get through physical barriers such as walls, leaves, or rain better than 5 GHz can.
