Seth, at 28:30, where you shuffled a foomigate to draw action, I believe that in a vacuum the correct choice would have been drawing the foomigate instead. With two in hand you can live a loooong time, which is the goal when you dominate the end game. Besiides that, amazing deck, I loved it. Abzan value and recurssion is my favorite archetype.
This deck has another source of value that Seth missed. The monetary value of every card in this deck that skyrocketed when he released this video that is
Against Mastermind's Ramp, when you bottomed the forest towards the end, you did have the line of keeping the forest, playing Razaketh, and then even if they exile it with Profane Procession, you get to tutor up an Ixalan's Binding by sacrificing your Servo. If you weren't on the "win by time out" plan, I think that would have been your best line - just use Razaketh as an 8 mana Demonic Tutor to ensure you don't lose to Profane Procession and/or Scarab God.
Hi Seth, why didn't you responded to his pull from tomorrow at 54:44 with the golden guardian ability, to fight against gonti and flip both transform cards ? big fan!!!
1:12:30 enchant something with Journey, sac to Stockpile and then if they Vraska’s Contempt, you sac again in response and fizzle their spell. You just need to have more mana than they have activations of stuff.
A necromancer, banished from the empire, journey's to raise an army of the dead and greed. Lustrous gold and rotting corpses shall rule the land. Edit: I shall chronicle the tragedies and triumphs of the necromancer in edits First the necromancer sought to demolish the vampires so as to rid their putrescence from the land. They fought long and hard to stave off his golden horde, but to no avail, as though they defeated the smaller coins that he sent, his followers managed to help in obtaining a large Golden golem of cataclysmic capacity. He then sent the Golden sentinel against one of his followers and the Cataclysm golem to make large forces of Gold, with aid from Itlimoc to fuel both. The vampires fled, fearing for their lives as their frontlines broke. Thus the necromancer Triumphed. Edit2: Next the necromancer found a follower of the Primal Death, who saw the raising of the dead disgraceful. He hurled his druids and the Primal death himself at the Necromancer, but to no avail as the Power of Atzal allowed him to return his followers from death. Though the necromancer found his main power later on, neither did the Death follower. all that the Primal Follower could conjure was a meager Brontodon, which was overwhelmed by the necromancer's followers, and thus the Necromancer triumphed once more.
This deck shows that Journey and explore creatures work so well together. I figured that out when I opened path of discovery and journey to eternity in sealed. You actually like drawing lands off explore and you churn through your deck.
I really like Golden Guardian, but I was thinking of playing it in a sort of Deathtouch Tribal deck to a) screw up combat math and b) guarantee the guardians die when they fight.
I feel like you're not getting full value with deathtouch tribal: If you block with guardian and a deathtoucher, and then have them fight, none of the attacking creatures die. But if you block with guardian and another creature, go to damage, and then sac the guardian, then you can take out a smaller attacker.
Fair assessment. Although the prospect of flashing in a Dire Fleet Poisoner and making it fight the Guardian in response to removal or at end of turn seems pretty dope. Another idea I had was in a similar vein. First/Double Strike Tribal. I know the strikes have nothing to do with fighting, but it enables you to block a creature, deal damage to it, and then fight in between the first strike combat damage step and regular combat damage step.
Ive got my eye on him too, though i figured the interaction with caravan will be a good core, after dominaria is known i wil brew with those two and pias revolution again, all 3 get me itching under my nails :P
Gollum (gol-lum) - a creature from Lord of the Rings. Golem (Go-lem) - an animated rock person. Saying it is easy, Seth! Step 1: Say "go." Step 2: Say "lem." You're all set!
At 1:10:00 you should have played swamp instead of forest because of walk the plank. Makes you have less clunky mana and able to go walk the plank into evolving wilds.
I built a similar deck in GB with explore creatures, winding constrictor, rishkar for explosivenes and ramp, more yahennis, even down to the one of razaketh
Golden guardian would probably work pretty well alongside gifted aetherborn, that way when they fight you also gain two and the death touch will kill it
Would Benefaction of Rhonas be a lot better than GRO-Itlimoc in this deck? I understand that GRO-Itlimoc has good utility but being able to grab an enchantment + a creature....looking 5 cards down instead of 4..... and the pitching to the graveyard instead of putting them on the bottom all seem like huge benefits you get by using Benefaction of Rhonas.
I had to assume you did, which is why i asked the question instead of making a statement lol....In the very least, given this is budget magic, benefaction can spare you the cost of GROI, while not sacrificing much or anything in the way of ulility for the deck. Sweet vid though as always Seth!
The deck you had no clue about is called standard Legacy lands. It is literally a Lands deck themed like the Legacy lands using the transforming enchantments and artifacts to become lands
Robert Raffensberger Really? That was my first impression too. Like, hmm this somehow reminds me of legacy lands in standard environment :D Nice idea, not quite the stage/depths power (duh) but still kinda cool
at 23m25s When your GG tried to fight the chupabar and opponent killed chupa... couldn't you *still* sac the GG and convert it? Or is a fizzled fight not enough to make it work?
Deck looks sweet. Thrashing brontodon might be good either as a one of in the main or side?? Also fatal push seems great if you can afford it I'm interested in making some upgrades to this!
first edition i would make in non budget is for sure fatal push. Helps with the clunky, slow draws, and works with the other revolt sinergies in the deck
I have stopped playing Standard and I love your brews but @ my LGS I get crushed week after week against pretty much every deck I play against I am going to stick with pauper and EDH the ability to brew and have fun is gone getting crushed by Net decks has ended the fun for me.
By any chance do you intentionally edit it so that you always win the first match so that it draws in interest. Based on commentary you've had in other videos it seems like the first match is a middle match that you performed either the best in or it's the most entertaining. Am I crazy?
I've seen plenty of videos where he loses the first match. I know that doesn't objectively prove he doesn't do it, but I just can't see him doing that. Being the only guy on youtube playing, um, "alternative" decks seems like it's enough of a draw as it is.
Daniel Gehring I've been watching goldfish for a year and it seems kinda new that's why I was asking. Watch the red black goblins video and you'll see what I mean
Especially if the video is all two-player matches (rather than a league) I try to put something interesting first, often a win, but sometime an interesting loss.
It has a timer so you can't sit there and waste the other person's time. Can be a little annoying when playing slower decks like this. MTGO (Magic the Gathering Online) is the same as player to player except with a very rigid structure. Each turn / sequence spelled out for you, so it can help learning. But MTGO is also very unforgiving. I find myself passing a lot of turns I could have done things with such as post combat steps, or combat steps I was trying to spam past w/e they were doing. I'm a newer players. MTGO also lends itself to a bit more competitive field. Its fun to test some stuff with, but know that you have to buy your cards again. Overall MTGO has a lot wrong with it. (not the best UI) but if you're looking for a place to play magic at anytime then its your best bet, besides Magic Arena which is ok too.
Man, why didn't you just play it out in the last match? You only spend a couple more minutes and you potentially get the win if you can get them to time out.
I have a bit of a tier version of a journey to eternity deck, trying to cheat out ghalta, while in sultai. So run minister, champion of wits, chart a course, all that. And then there's also hostage taker, fatal push, liliana deaths majesty, and Scarab God
"We want this Chupacabra to live, so...we will *sacrifice* it." XD
Tomasaki this is what I came here to say as well. This was great
I was also going to make this exact comment XP
i know I am kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good place to stream new tv shows online?
@Stefan Ronnie i use flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
@Harvey Caiden Yea, have been watching on Flixzone for months myself :)
Not enough Panharmonicon 1/10
Seth, at 28:30, where you shuffled a foomigate to draw action, I believe that in a vacuum the correct choice would have been drawing the foomigate instead. Dangit Seth, I keep trying to get out of standard and you keep making super spicy decks I want to play >_
17:04 Seth Really gets into it! It's beautiful!
"We can *Grind* with the best of them" -Seth 2018
This deck has another source of value that Seth missed. The monetary value of every card in this deck that skyrocketed when he released this video that is
We must expose his get rich quick scheme!
I mean, hardly, but sure. Whatever you think.
I hope not. I was going to make a less janky Journey to Eternety deck here in the upcoming week.
Ah yes, the $1 profit. It went from $78 to $79
33:54 I'M SO PROUD! He finally pronounced Yahenni's name properly!
Man this deck was sweet! One of the best episodes in a while!
54:37 missed opportunity to flip both land..
o8240000 feels so bad man....
And then his graveyard gets nuked and garrison gets killed and he's down to nothing.
Yeah, the graveyard hate was really holding us back.
Well I mean, at this timestamp the opponent was tapped out so the graveyard wasn't in danger
journey wouldn't do anything with an empty graveyard.
9:00 Is the start of games.
Yes!!! Finally! I've been waiting, so hyped since I saw the tweet
This deck speaks to me in a spiritual way. I love it
Against Mastermind's Ramp, when you bottomed the forest towards the end, you did have the line of keeping the forest, playing Razaketh, and then even if they exile it with Profane Procession, you get to tutor up an Ixalan's Binding by sacrificing your Servo. Hi Seth,
why didn't you responded to his pull from tomorrow at 54:44 with the golden guardian ability, to fight against gonti and flip both transform cards ?
big fan!!!
23:35 Could you have sacced the Guardian with Stockpile to flip it?
I had a similar deck idea involving that combo but with ghalta as my wincon, now i see i was thinking too little, love it!
1:12:30 enchant something with Journey, sac to Stockpile and then if they Vraska’s Contempt, you sac again in response and fizzle their spell. You just need to have more mana than they have activations of stuff.
Think this deck has to be built. Loving the creativity! Also...great card for meren commander decks :)
Another great deck with a lot of cards I love!
I'm loving the deck tech, saffron, but I have the cards to make a non- budget version. if I do, do you mind if I cite you as my inspiration?

"We kinda want this Chupacabra to live, so we will sacrifice it."
Thanks Seth!
Amazing how you always have these sweet engine decks.
Apart from janky combo, sweet value engines are one of my favorite things in Magic :)
Damnit Seth, you make such fun decks, I'm tempted to build this even though I don't play Standard at all..
that beginning of game 3. The MODO gods have heard your prayers, but RNGESUS punishes your hubris
Match 2 of game 1 was awesome!
This deck shows that Journey and explore creatures work so well together. I figured that out when I opened path of discovery and journey to eternity in sealed. You actually like drawing lands off explore and you churn through your deck.
Explore is pretty sweet with Journey.
I was waiting, damn UA-cam not updating for 10 minutes
I really like Golden Guardian, but I was thinking of playing it in a sort of Deathtouch Tribal deck to a) screw up combat math and b) guarantee the guardians die when they fight.

,,We kinda want this Chupacabra to live, soooo sacrifice it.''
Lol, but live I mostly meant not get exiled.
In English, we quote using quotation marks on both sides of the sentence, not commas.
Just thought I'd let you know.
Kyle Hart I know but unfortunately it somehow doesn't work on my phone so I improvised, adapted and overcame. :D
Gollum (gol-lum) - a creature from Lord of the Rings. Golem (Go-lem) - an animated rock person. Saying it is easy, Seth! Step 1: Say "go." Step 2: Say "lem." You're all set!
But its Seth. It wouldnt be the same without that.
Gollum?
Walloficecream the flavour text should have been breeches shouting "precious!"
Golden gollum! Gollum!
17:10 was NUTSO!
This deck is indeed really fun.
I'm glad you're improving your deck naming skills, Seth. If this was called "Abzan Golden Guardian" I would be very disappointed.
ha, thanks :)
yes I've wanted a golden guardian deck for so long! I always thought it would be fun and at least somewhat playable.
I think fun and somewhat playable is about where we ended up.
At 1:10:00 you should have played swamp instead of forest because of walk the plank. Makes you have less clunky mana and able to go walk the plank into evolving wilds.
thank god it's not another gift of paradise deck.
Came here for the Foomigate!
Sweet deck!
Can we see a Jund Dinosaurs deck sometime soon Seth? It's my favorite shard and RG with black removal is great.
Good idea!
I built a similar deck in GB with explore creatures, winding constrictor, rishkar for explosivenes and ramp, more yahennis, even down to the one of razaketh
I feel like a hipster for making people aware of the sick Golden Guardian/Journey to Eternity synergy for like almost 2 months now.
That laugh when you drew Walk the Plank....
Edit: At 33:10 or so.
Maybe golden guardian could fit in some kind of modern heartless summoning deck?
I beat this earlier in a league with Sram auras, had no idea what my opponent was doing until they flipped the reanimation land
My God that first match!
Is there any other big creatures that can be played to have more value out of Journey to Eternity?
Seth, you should play a similar deck next time you are on Commander Clash, perhaps with Teneb, the Harvester as your commander.
Oh Seth... never trust math.
You know what I wanna see? Form of the Dinosaur. So jank. So good.
'Golden Journey' sounds like the name of the newest R. Kelly album
duuude nice deck
Bringing this to standard night
Is this Budget Magic or an ad for the Hypergeometric Calculator?
What about using golden guardian to trigger enrage?
Golden guardian would probably work pretty well alongside gifted aetherborn, that way when they fight you also gain two and the death touch will kill it
Love the signed tokens Seth! Yall need larger sized shirts lol
*yahanni*
That last game... my god midrange mirrors are sweet
Yeah, I didn't think that match was ever going to end.
But it doesn't flip
I had Benefaction in the deck for a minute, it seems pretty good.
I had to assume you did, which is why i asked the question instead of making a statement lol....In the very least, given this is budget magic, benefaction can spare you the cost of GROI, while not sacrificing much or anything in the way of ulility for the deck. Sweet vid though as always Seth!
Why you didnt flip both in response of pull from tommorow(on 54 minute)?
I mean gonti have deathtouch(:
The deck you had no clue about is called standard Legacy lands. It is literally a Lands deck themed like the Legacy lands using the transforming enchantments and artifacts to become lands
Robert Raffensberger Really? That was my first impression too. Like, hmm this somehow reminds me of legacy lands in standard environment :D Nice idea, not quite the stage/depths power (duh) but still kinda cool
Which deck? The one being played?
Lari yes I played it and playing against at at my fnm for the the couple weeks
Holostryker the deck he was around the 50:00 time
Does it run modern ? I loved the Golden Guardian but it seems so bad out of t2
This deck begs for an Elenda, I'd say! You're sacrificing and reanimating with the best of them.
at 23m25s When your GG tried to fight the chupabar and opponent killed chupa... couldn't you *still* sac the GG and convert it? Or is a fizzled fight not enough to make it work?
The fizzling of the fight stop Golden Guardian from being able to flip.
Deck looks sweet. Thrashing brontodon might be good either as a one of in the main or side?? Also fatal push seems great if you can afford it I'm interested in making some upgrades to this!
Fatal Push is great. First card I'd want to add (along with Blooming Marsh) if budget isn't a concern.
53:31 You could have fight Gonti in response. Gonti has deathtouch. Would have killed the Golden Guardian.
Edit: Oh right. Desert
Couldn't he have done it in response to the giant pull from tomorrow? Since they tapped the desert?
yep, Seth missed that badly
I thought it was just a deck tech but there were games! Yey
Seth can you plz do a budget jeskai deck that is fun but competitive
How can I skip deck tech?
jaisja
There are links to each game in the description.
first edition i would make in non budget is for sure fatal push. Helps with the clunky, slow draws, and works with the other revolt sinergies in the deck
Yep, Fatal Push and Blooming Marsh as the two easiest and most important upgrades.
Did Against the Odds accidentally come out on the wrong day? ;)
Have you thought about Annointed Procession in this deck? It just kinda makes all the Stockpiles and golem tokens that sexier.
Seems bad. Stockpile is only there as a sac outlet and a flipped Golem-foundry shouldn't need help winning the game.
Anointed Procession is just oddly expensive.
I love this deck. Shame I will have to make it even more budget before I can afford it. But, who knows maybe I can make some trades.
There's an even cheaper version in the article that doesn't lose too much. www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-78-18-tix-golden-journey-standard
MTGGoldfish When I get my paid internship next year, someone’s gonna get a new subscriber on twitch.
I use journey in my meren edh deck and its an absolute HOUSE
I have stopped playing Standard and I love your brews but @ my LGS I get crushed week after week against pretty much every deck I play against I am going to stick with pauper and EDH the ability to brew and have fun is gone getting crushed by Net decks has ended the fun for me.
I like it!
Does seth pronounce stuff wrong on purpose? Like yahanni and bonded courier? I feel like saying yahenni isn't difficult so he must do it on purpose.
By any chance do you intentionally edit it so that you always win the first match so that it draws in interest. Based on commentary you've had in other videos it seems like the first match is a middle match that you performed either the best in or it's the most entertaining. Am I crazy?

Especially if the video is all two-player matches (rather than a league) I try to put something interesting first, often a win, but sometime an interesting loss.
I never played magic online. Can anyone tell me why does it have a time? and what makes it differ from player to player?
It has a timer so you can't sit there and waste the other person's time. Can be a little annoying when playing slower decks like this.
MTGO (Magic the Gathering Online) is the same as player to player except with a very rigid structure. Each turn / sequence spelled out for you, so it can help learning. Missed the, Golden opportunity to call the deck, Golden Eternity.
Those were very grindy. Fun to watch though.
Atzal + Stockpile + Chuppacabra = build-your-own Abyss.
This is why I am a 21-23 lands kind of guy.
Imagine anointed procession
You said the budget lands are hurting you, but you have $22 left on the budget.
Foomigate...I'm f*ing tilted...
Man, why didn't you just play it out in the last match? You only spend a couple more minutes and you potentially get the win if you can get them to time out.
This deck is gross when it goes off haha, nice build Seth
9:10
THE MATH BETRAYED US
that sultai deck was jim davis's deck (slightly tweeked)
ua-cam.com/video/miz4OZaaFCE/v-deo.html
17:21 *snickers*
Troll
ive been brewing this for a bit lol
Is this... is this The Rock!?
also known as flip-land-tribal
"There's sexy...Tetzi.."
I have a bit of a tier version of a journey to eternity deck, trying to cheat out ghalta, while in sultai. So run minister, champion of wits, chart a course, all that. And then there's also hostage taker, fatal push, liliana deaths majesty, and Scarab God
Bruce Amick
You do realize that Ghalta is easily cheated out in a dinosaur deck? Like seriously, you can drop him on turn 5 easy.
DeathBeam SupperCannon *her
DeathBeam SupperCannon you do realize that you can also get her out by turn 5 this way too
Fun
