Synopsis:

Μερικές φορές είναι πολύ αργά. Δυστυχώς λίγοι άνθρωποι το καταλαβαίνουν εγκαίρως. Στην πραγματική ζωή σπάνια να υπάρχει καλό τέλος με τέτοιους γονείς. Το ξέρω γιατί το έχω ζήσει με τον πατέρα μου. Και δυστυχώς το ζω και με την μάνα μου. Είναι δύσκολο να διορθωθεί μια τέτοια τοξική σχέση όταν οι γονείς έχουν τόσο τεράστιο εγωισμό και νομίζουν ότι όλα όσα έκαναν τα έκαναν σωστά. 😓💔

My heart is broken this series is outstanding the cast is superb and amazing. 50 years ago my mother committed suicide and it still hurts to this day Im almost 75 now and I still remember. I do not wish this pain on anyone. To the outstanding cast thank you for your amazing performance ❤❤❤

This is a heart breaking story that transcends time. How many times had this played out in a family- wealthy or poor? Too many. This must have been a very difficult series for the cast to deal with all the negative emotion. They really brought it raw and bloody to us. Well done ❤❤❤
...a cruel jerk father ... I felt so sad about crown prince's suicide ... haram on his "daddy" ...
Initially I watched the clips that would be shown on UA-cam but some of them made me incredibly uncomfortable so I would not watch it. Then last month and this I sat and watched the entire show. If you are easily upset don't watch it. If you struggle with any form of depression don't watch it.
It is an absolute masterpiece! Brilliant acting bringing out an interesting even though sad story. Luo Jin is excellent in this drama, he should have swept all best actor awards with his superb performance of such a complex character. This crown prince is tortured, jovial, wise, rash, cunning, naïve, sweet, romantic, but always engrossing to watch.
This incredibly sad man was painful and unsettling to watch but Luo Jin made that role his own his every move is that of a true actor, he draws you into his world and before you know it, you are crying with him or rejoicing with him whenever he landed a win. The cruelty he dished out on the female lead seems to be a popular thing to add to any Chinese drama and in this case as cruel as it was it also made sense. Other shows use abuse and cruelty as a crutch and go way over board on it. The bleak and miserable settings, the costumes were not over elaborate they were quite basic and it added to the feeling of absolute misery his life was. This is the first Chinese Drama I have watched that didn't have the fancy clothes with head wear so elaborate I am surprised they could hold their heads up. It showed a side of Crown Prince that was not set in roses that didn't act spoilt and ridiculous it showed the true definition of how hard it must have been for any man of the palace in those times. One wrong move one wrong word could see you been slung into the deepest darkest cell or killed. All the actors were just superb, the king I loathed but the actor, his acting was excellent. The half brother is played to perfection by Zhao Xifeng. I was hoping so much for a happier ending though as the hero and heroine went through so much.
When I finished watching it I just sat quietly for a moment and reflected that humans are the most cruel sadistic and vengeful on the planet. There is no reason for any of this but for jealousy and envy you are willing to commit such heinous acts.
Once you lose your humanity you're finished
But he was so cruel to the main female lead and there is no excuse for that period!!
This father is the worst father figure I saw on Chinese drama.
The cast is superb, but this drama is tragic and so super sad.

I suggest you have to watch this drama, its a really good drama.. If you don't like sad ending maybe you can watch it 1 season only and think that The Prince not died.

very sad story. Hopefully it will not happened in real life, we can't control the feeling of the person. We give freedom and good advice so it not turn into disaster. Father regretted it's too late to let him go.

@@tracywainfur2461 hmmm……. In real life I totally get it or even modern Chinese dramas but in historical Chinese dramas, it’s hard for me to wrap my head around it. It’s rare for it to end this way since survival is crucial and everyone is just fighting to live. I haven’t watched the whole drama only bits and pieces of this drama, so it might make more sense if I was to watch the whole thing. But unfortunately I can’t find this whole drama in English subtitles. I’ve tried looking.

Going back to the series yes you would need to watch it to understand the mental pressure/torture he was going through with his father and ministers .in real life history there was such a king and son and the son committed suicide so it's believed these characters are loosely based around them.. as for mental illness I'm not expert but no matter the era and lifestyle mental illness has always been around just in that life time it wasn't openly advertised and rarely heard off especially with royalty I would imagine if royalty were to be diagnosed with it especially an emperor it would be kept a heavily guarded secret anyway otherwise it be used against him to topple him of the throne.
I was shocked when I saw this I thought he's found his love and expecting a baby this should keep him alive but like modern day having loved ones is no guarantee to keep you alive in fact people with depression feel they are a burden to love ones and think they're better of without them
This character was very young he had alot on his shoulders he felt he couldn't be a good dad to his child he was worried he'd be like his dad and yup that got me to I was thinking well knowing your dad wasn't good to you you would think he would have thought right my dad was like that I'm going to make sure my child will not go through the same but no again this is mental illness .it may cross his mind he could be a better dad but thought otherwise. Back then they didn't have what we had to help him so it was a constant battle with his mind. It's also possible he may have thought he wouldn't have a choice in the way he would of wanted to bring up his child maybe his father would interfere in the way the child was brought up possibly? So he didn't want to be around to see that happening .he already felt useless with his father throughout series he was always trying to appease him.he had very low esteem. But above all he was worried he would turn out like his dad
So yeh all these pressures and worries got to him in the end. It was sad to see..
