The UI has changed a little for setting up internal traffic rules: In GA4 Go to Data Streams - Under Google Tag is 'Configure tag settings' - 'Show all' - Define internal traffic
I was looking for "Show All" like 10 minutes :).. So for all others it's a blue "Show All" drop down button at the right side of the "Settings" :DDDD Thanks man! Found it :)
Wow... great tutorial. I'm going to be going through all your videos to learn more about GA/Tag Manager/Google Ads etc. Thanks for sharing this information.
Hi, thanks for sharing this useful video. I have a query, actually, I want to exclude traffic from our employees who are working from home and I don't know their IPs. What other method I can use?
When you set the data filter to the active state, will this be applied permanently to the data? If you use the testing state, does this work on sampled data or is it applied to real data in your GA4?
I have a client who wants to see internal vs external - is that possible if you filter internal traffic? In UA, I'd create a separate view. Not sure in GA4.
It's not possible in GA4. You would need to do this before data is collected. Maybe you could adjust your trigger in GTM to prevent your tags from firing.
Thank you so much, so easy to follow - although there were some slight differences, I guess due to GA4 updates, and me not being a native English speaker!
Hi i just set up the filter, after 24 hrs how can i test to see if i have successfully block internal traffic? For example, i shall no longer see my activation in the real time report, right? Many thanks!
@@LovesData Thank you for the update, but where do you go next after 'Configure Tag Settings'? I can see the headers options 'Configuration', 'Histroy' and 'Admin' at the top of the page, plus all thier subsequent options, but I can't see anything that resembles an option to exclude an IP Address. Could you please point us in the right direction? Many thanks in advance :)
Is the 2nd option involves adding variable in GTM container then update all the tags that we have in the container? Is the 1st option involves excluding the ip addresses in the data stream? If we use 2nd option, doesn't need to do option 1? Thanks.
it is in data stream > at the bottom is configure tag setting > settings header with 'show all' at the right-hand side > scroll down to see define internal traffic
Hi Love Data, In GA4 I created an internal filter, that filter our office Ip, but now I want to know, is it possible to exclude one of our URL from this filter?

Thank you for the tutorial! I followed the steps you have explained but it doesn't filter out the traffic for me... Could it be that filtering out internal traffic is not applicable for data sent through Measurement Protocol?
Apparently the owner of this channel never help his audience directly when they have a question. Did you figure out why you still see the data in live preview because that's also my issue.

Huh? I don’t understand. Most of us have one IP address so why do we need to follow the 2nd rule? And what’s so important about debug I could care less to see my own traffic
The UI has changed a little for setting up internal traffic rules: In GA4 Go to Data Streams - Under Google Tag is 'Configure tag settings' - 'Show all' - Define internal traffic
thanks for that detail. so how about the Data Settings > Data Filters. what is it used for?
@@egemenedursun Using Data Filters remain the same as in the video.
Data filters are used to stop that the traffic from ending up in your GA data

i love your videos you make the transition so easy fro universal to GA4!
Hi, thanks for sharing this useful video. I have a query, actually, I want to exclude traffic from our employees who are working from home and I don't know their IPs. What other method I can use?
@LovesData I can't find the "field setting" in GTM. There are 3 new options. Please help.
How do I check that my filter is working? When I followed the steps and went to my website it I saw it appear as a hit in the real time over view.
Thank you! It seems the "Fields Set: choice has been removed from the UI. What has replaced it?
User settings has replaced it.
thanks but when i put in my ip for define traffic it annyos me and ask for the CIDR and i don't get it(CIDR)

@LovesData what is the solution for internal traffic with dynamic IP in GA4 or GTM? Does one exist?
I'm seeing both tt debug and own webanalyst values in GTM tag assistant preview mode. Will this be an issue when view GA4 report?
Do you have the video for excluding internal traffic in UA?
I have a client who wants to see internal vs external - is that possible if you filter internal traffic? In UA, I'd create a separate view. Not sure in GA4.
Hi Benjamin, One question how to exclude in GA4 for example all the IPS from a country? how to put all the IPS in GA4? thanks in advance
It's not possible in GA4. You would need to do this before data is collected. Maybe you could adjust your trigger in GTM to prevent your tags from firing.
I selected the data stream, but when I scrolled down, there was no option for "More Tagging Settings" Why won't that show up?
choose configure tag settings and scroll down and click show all.

The data filter option does not show for me in GA4? Has this been updated?

I can't find Data Streams on Google Analytics anymore. Has the location or name of this feature been changed? Can anyone help? Thanks!
How to deal with the changing ips perhaps you can create a small tutorial fro that
This helped a lot! Thank you. Thumbs up for Sure!!
I’m so glad you liked it!
If you have a dynamic IP address couldn't you use Google's Analytics Opt Out Extention if you use Chrome?
Agree, using that for UA and it works, it seems to be working in GA4 as well but harder to verify
I don't have the option for More Tagging Settings - was it removed by Google?
Hey there! Just select 'Configure Tag Settings' instead. (Google are rolling out changes for 'Google Tag' which replaces the 'Global Site Tag'.)

HI, Benjamin. What if I'm using a proxy to browse my website.
This was really useful thank you - I didn't realise there was a debug view, this looks very interesting
Where did you find the debug view on your system, please? I couldn't find tag assistant, either.

Hi Benjamin, Have Google changed to automatically excluding debug traffic?
Hello Benjamin, thank you for all your amazing videos. I was looking to see if you have " How To Exclude International Traffic In WordPress website". Thank you soo much!
Good explanation... thanks bro..
Can traffic be excluded based on email domain?
I don't see 'More Tagging Settings'
it is in data stream > at the bottom is configure tag setting > settings header with 'show all' at the right-hand side > scroll down to see define internal traffic
This did not work for me. GA keeps tracking my visits from both, my phone and desktop.
Thank you for the tutorial!
I followed the steps you have explained but it doesn't filter out the traffic for me...
Could it be that filtering out internal traffic is not applicable for data sent through Measurement Protocol?
I have about 100 employees that work from home that I have to filter out. But I see I can only add 10 data filters?
Thanks a lot! Realy helpful! So if we want all web site data also should we create a different property without filters?
Great, thanks!
Will this work to remove real time event count? I done the setup but still see the real time event count increasing for my own internal traffic.

Hi. Do you need the extra developer filter if you're excluding it via Tag Manager? Or can you just have the internal traffic type in GA4 and then, the filter in GTM?
@LovesData Hey Benjamin, I'm wondering the same. Which data filters should we (still) use when applying the GTM variable into the GA4 config tag?
I'm having the same question, anyone knows if we need to do the extra developer filter if we've used the technique in GTM?
Man you look like Sheldon Cooper. Oh my gosh such a genuis.
hi benjamin, thanks for all content and your explanations. what is the difference btween free and paid courses? i see you share too many details in your youtube videos.
Thanks for the tutorial. My public IP address is an IPv6 address. It changes all the time. How does this work then?
You’ll need to enter the range for a dynamic (changing IP address) whether it’s IPv6 or IPv4.
@@LovesData How to do that? Please guide.
Hi. I follow your steps but my internal ip is still in live data. Is that correct? Do I need to update my Google tag?
It seems the owner of this channel never help his audience directly when they have a question. Did you figure out why you still see the data in live preview because that's also my issue.
I have the same problem but with developer filter, did you ever solve this?
Huh? I don’t understand. Most of us have one IP address so why do we need to follow the 2nd rule? And what’s so important about debug I could care less to see my own traffic
If you have a dynamic IP the right method is to create a cookie with GTM and then exclude visits when the cookie is set.
This isn’t the best option. You need to identify the range and enter it in GA4 as I’ve covered.
Not understood. These many filters and confusing
It is a bit more involved than Universal Analytics, but if you follow the steps I cover you’ll be fine. (Pause and rewatch if needed.)
G4 is horrible. You can't change my mind
What if our company website has thousands of employees? And we cant add all the IP addresses? What is the workaround?
