@Seeingisntbelieving yes the chemicals used in synthetic hair is also unhealthy and can cause harm. I don't wear any of it. I just wear the hair God gave me.

I could never go back to relaxers ever, it truly is a lot to keep up with and let’s not forget the health risk like fibroids and burned scabs on the scalp.
@@kenyasqueens5062 to each its own. My relaxed hair was significantly easier to maintain. Relaxer isn’t meant to be on the scalp and if you’re getting burns and scabs then you aren’t applying it correctly. All chemicals have health risks. Hair color comes with a risk of cancer. I won’t get into other salon chemical services and their effects on the stylists.
Relaxer just reveals the thinness of her hair. My hair was thick when I was young, but even then when it was pressed it looked thin and I hated it. I never envied white women as their hair looks thin and lifeless to me. Guess that’s why they put in individual hair pieces. As I get older, my hair has thinned. Having natural hair hides the thinness. Natural hair is our super power. You’re right about the amount of work needed with relaxers. I would love to see a video from you regarding relaxers. Lots of people seem to think that something is about to be done about the toxic ingredients, but that’s not true. They’re only working on formaldehyde which is not in cream relaxers. Instead they’re in the products used by white women, like Brazilian Blowouts. No one is coming to save us.
i wouldnt say it "reveals" it. Yes people with afro hair can have thin hair but relaxers doesnt reveal anything. A persons thin hair is still going to turn out thinner when relaxed vs when its been straightend with a hot tool. Relax hair is a chemical, its not going to reveal any state your natural is or should be in, it alters how your hair would be if it were healthy. Hence why relaxed hair turns out stringy when wet vs silk pressed hair that would still keep a healthy, thicker and stronger appearance. Or kinda like how bleached hair makes a persons hair look stringy and sticky when wet. MY sisters hair was thin af when relaxed. Youd tie the hair back and it looked like she had two strands or hair. Nowadays she is a natural straight. Hair is still thin but much much fuller and thicker in appearance vs when it was relaxed. When the hair is an afro, yes it appears thick, but you can still very much tell she is finer and thinner hair naturally, exspecially when it comes to styles like Afro Puffs
@@akaced I agree. There’s a noticeable difference for content creators when they straighten natural hair vs relaxing then straightening their hair. Proof is in the pudding.
the way my hair is set up those box relaxers and box dyes are too strong for my hair. I need specialist chemicals and specially applied to avoid damage from overprocessing.
Relaxers permanently damaged my edges and i didnt choose to perm.(mum did it forcibly as i hated relaxers) Ugh im so sngry as im suffering becau se of anothers self hate☹️😢
I know how you feel! Relaxers were forced on me when I was five and a half or six and it was always a super strength relaxer and I always had sensitive skin! Ugh!!! I had scalp burns, bleeding scalp wounds, thinning hair, etc. I got a big chop last year and so far my hair is thriving. Please don't give up on your hair! I believe in you and your hair! ♥️♥️♥️
I’m sorry you had to deal with that as well but yes pray over your edges also you could see if a Dermotologist can help restore your edges as well and lastly I hear scalp massages in the area really stimulates hair growth as well…please keep us posted 🤎🤎🤎
My mom forced me too. They used "super" strength on my fine, medium density natural hair. My edges (temple area ) took a beating and never recovered. Thankfully my hair is long enough to cover it, but middle part is all I can do 😢
The over-all damage that relaxers did to my hair was not worth getting them, or for my children; and now, I can't help but wonder if the relaxers were the cause of my female issues which eventually lead to me having ovarian cysts, and a partial hysterectomy. I was a heavy relaxer user at one time.✨️
Multiple Studies have shown the link between relaxer ingredients to Cancer, cysts fibroids and hormonal imbalance. So sad that I'm part of the statistic.
I recently saw a video of a mother who decided to relax her minor child's hair because she got tired of having to "make" the child's natural hair every week. Mind you: the child is way under the age of 10. How on Earth do you hear of the possible links between relaxers and cancer and still decide to chemically straighten your child's hair?
Even though there is evidence supporting a link between relaxers and cancer, people develop the attitude “It won’t happen to me”. They apply that same level of complacency to those around them as well. Kiddie relaxers are still alive and well, and a lot of people still use them. Even without cancer, there are so many other negative factors that come with relaxers, until Idk why anyone would take the risk when we have so many alternatives. Oh well.
Thanks for watching and I definitely feel going to a professional to apply a relaxer is best to avoid misusage but I didn’t notice any obvious damage from her hair in its coily state but without a full assessment from a professional it’s hard to say at face value 🤎🤎🤎
As a cosmetologist for 20+ years I can see the damage by looking at her hair and how it moves. She didn’t detangle or section her hair out for a VIRGIN relaxer (that’s crazy) and it appears she started at the roots and not mid shaft or slapped it on like a conditioner. She further damaged her already damaged hair. In beauty school we learn “ products don’t damage the hair, people do” this is a prime example.
Ok gotcha! Thanks for sharing your expertise with me and my channel and I understanding her hair was already damaged along with misusage I can see why her relaxer results made her hair appear more thin and damaged 🤎
I glad my sister doesn't either im teaching her to love her hair my mother still does even tho she has alopecia and a loose curl pattern like type 3a 3b already , I hate the smell of them and I plan on never introducing my sister to them .
@@yassine8935the smell is awful. I also have never had one but gone to the salon with my mom for her schedule cuts and smelled the burning chemicals. 😤
Yup my mom never did either but this y I was at the hairdresser with my siblings every 2weeks she would shave her hair off when it got to her lower back
Besides the health aspect, relaxed hair just looks so ugly. Straightened natural hair looks so much better. I never want to go back to looking like that.
If I start talking about what relaxers did to me I would start crying. I’m still recovering from the damage relaxer did to my scalp it’s been 8years y’all.
It's been so long since I had a relaxer that i forgot the black scabs i would get. It didn't matter how long it sat in my hair, how much Vaseline used, or stregnth of the relaxer scabs were guaranteed.
This woman is a South African. Here in South Africa 🇿🇦 we rarely have hair professionals .Salons damage our hair severely. They leave relaxers for 1 hour in our hair. They use excessive heat on our hair without heat protectent. Here in South Africa if you want to grow long hair as a black woman you have to do your hair yourself. Many black South african women have short, their hair stops getting longer when it reaches neck length or shoulder length. Its because of salons. And our hair texture is very coarse i think more coarse to be considered type 5A hair since most of us descend from the khoisan tribe .Our hair is extremely difficult to manage hence we opt for relaxers just to save time. I struggled to grow my hair for years past neck length ,even all of my family have very short hair.I shaved 4 times in my life. I last shaved about 3 years agoand grew out my hair naturally .In the 1 year 6 months mark my hair became unmanageable trust me i tried using wide tooth combs and detangling my hair damp with water and leave in conditioner but still it didn't work. I decided to texturize my hair at home. I tried relaxing 3 more times but my hair came out underprocessed. I went to the salon and they fried my hair and damaged it. Now i have thin damaged relaxed hair. It grew long and i am still retaining length despite the damage 💔 I am now at bra strap length i never thought my hair could get this long.I do my hair myself and its getting longer. In South Africa you are better off doing your hair yourself. You can learn from your mistakes.
Thank you for sharing your experience as a South African…and it’s very unfortunate that you all have a difficult time finding reliable hairstylist who care…I definitely agree that if you can’t find a good stylist it’s best to do it yourself🤎🤎🤎
It sounds like the issue isn't that your natural hair is unmanageable, but that you're doing what alot of us here in the diaspora also have a tendency to do: trying to force our hair to do something that is incompatible with the hair itself, and then blaming the hair when it doesn't cooperate, and saying it's unmanageable. Kind of like giving a fish a fitness test by telling it to climb a tree.
@@KiraBKADestroyerOfWorldsExactly, the fact that we historically have lost the techniques 3growing healthy and long afro textured hair and rely on people who use techniques for straight hair is one of the challenges....
The reason why their natural hair looks thin with ugly ends after relaxing is because they don't take care of their hair whilst natural nor trim their hands. The difficulty they experience with their natural is usually because they don't do what their hair needs them to do in order for it to be healthy and they just wing it or do bare minimum because it's natural and think a relaxer will save them. But relaxer just end up exposing how reckless and careless they are with their hair in the end. Nobody wins
This lady in this particular video needed her ends trimmed and probably didn't notice it or care about it when she was natural and now because she has relaxed her hair , it's showing her terrible ends and unfortunately, she might keep those ends because *length 😂
I got a silk press recently for the first time after being natural for over 10 years and it made me realise I have no desire to relax! I loved the length but my hair was so flat!!!! As it got older the volume came back and I loved it! Natural is versatile! I love it 🥰
Even "healthy" relaxed hair cannot compare to 100% natural virgin hair. I hope she likes it but imo it looks terrible. She doesn't exactly give off the impression that she knows how to do her hair either way tbh. Also i think people are clout chasing off relaxers atp not saying she is but it seems like theres a shock factor thing going on. Also after 8 years where is the length? Every person Ive seen truly go natural has some kind of hair on their back..i think this person needs help.
I had relaxed hair when I was younger and let me tell you it was WORK. I had to get it straighten every week, avoid water, avoid humidity, avoid sweating or it will turn bad and being cautious with the Pink Cream (I still can smell it 😭) or my hair will be greasy. Praise the Lord I went natural like 8 years ago. I'm so happy with my natural hair and its waaaaayyy less work and prettier than relaxed hair And one more thing. I can see the relaxed and "straight natural" girlies coming back no natural hair soon because of heat damage and thinning 🤷🏾♀️
I’ve been tempted to relax, but I remembered how thin my relaxed hair was and plus I like my natural hair and it’s so versatile. If I want to give my hair a break, I wear wigs, get braids/twists etc. My hair in its natural state is healthy and appears more thicker and it’s growing nicely.
She should have gotten it professionally done. Home relaxers are not it. My hair had always been relaxed, past shoulder-length, thick, and strong. During the pandemic I did a couple of relaxers at home and…I destroyed my hair enough to justify a big chop and going natural.
I don’t try not to judge other’s decisions. To be honest if I could still relax my hair I would but my hair is too weak now and relaxers take out my hair. She probably should have gone to a professional for a full relaxer but that just my thoughts. She is a beautiful woman
Your comment makes me safe enough to admit that I would have kept relaxing my hair but I did notice it did mess it up and I also wore wigs. I stopped doing both because of it but it’s really hard not do either.
Thanks for sharing your honest opinion can I ask why you would prefer to get a relaxer if you could versus options like straightening, blow drying etc🤎
@@CoffeeCuties777 Hey Doll! For my hair texture my hair grew longer ( I know that is hard to understand) and to me it was easier to keep healthy in the straighter state. When I hit around 35 my hair just couldn’t take things like relaxers and heat so I went natural.

I decided long ago to have confidence in my hairs natural state because it’s truly how I believe God wanted me to look and is beautiful. For maintenance I got mini locs and never looked back. 7 years in my hair is down to my backside and I don’t have any regrets!
I am a natural and I have a full head of hair that is fine. When it is straightened with flat irons my hair looks thin. At its natural state it looks full. My hair follicles are just not very close together. So with a relaxer or with flat irons my hair would look the same when straightened.
Yes some people have fine hair regardless but it didn’t seem that way for her but I’m not 100 percent sure however when it comes to relaxers applying it to already thin hair makes it typically makes it worse🤎🤎🤎
I could never go back to a relaxer because of the noticeable damage and how my hair felt and how heavy it was. I notice the difference now with my hair. Also, I want to teach my daughter that that natural kinky curl styled can be done and she shouldn’t feel the need to put that in her hair. My sister never did it either with her kids and both my nieces have long beautiful hair that’s thick and bouncy. We don’t have a high growth pattern in my family but trust, our hair as a family has been long, bouncy and thick since we all stopped relaxers. 9 years without, my sister is about 18 years, my mother is 8 years post relaxer. A lot of women have some resilience in their hair but for a lot of us, our hair becomes incredibly damaged and stunted. Everyone is different though.
Some bw are sooo very obsessed with relaxed hair that they don't care what you tell them about the risks. The style is way more important than the health of their hair and bodies. Totally sold out on the chemicals.
i don't ever see myself willingly getting another relaxer again. i'd rather have dreadlocks or be bald. the way i ran to team natural when i 'discovered' i didn't have to relax my hair can not be overstated.
I can understand if you enjoyed having relaxed hair....but I never enjoyed my relaxed hair...I hate the flatness, the damage and the having to be tied to a salon. I have ultra-fine hair and a sensitive scalp, I need a specialist relaxer and a specialist application and I could never find a stylist to do it in the 2 countries that I've lived in!! I have friends who have coarser hair and a less sensitive scalp so the relaxer wasn't as painful for them but often their hair was underprocessed!! Another friend hurt her back to the point of not being able to detangle natural hair so all she does is swoop the relaxer into a ponytail or wear a wig. My mom liked having a relaxer when she was working because all she had to do was put it in rollers and comb out he rollers. She never did anything else to it like blow out or flat iron or curling iron. My aunt was the same she just put it in a doobie wrap and called it a day. I'm not saying that I will never relax again but I know that it's got to be a style that I don't mind being flat and supershort and I have to find a stylist that won't burn my scalp or overprocess my hair....It might be that they might tell me I only need a texturiser and not a relaxer.
The last time i got my hair relaxed, it was my best friend Bianca. She was MY best friend, I wasnt hers. This is because she was much older than me. I loved watching Bianca and her friends play in makeup. And when I got old enough she helped me relax my hair without my mom. She said my hair is thinning, this should be the last relaxer I get because I could lose it all. She said I should go natural and do a big chop. Told me my cheekbones would pop. I wasn't hearing none of that tho I wanted my roots LAID lol. So she did it. And two months later she died. She was 25. I never got another relaxer again. RIP Bianca ❤ love you, gorgeous.
I have thin stands, but a lot of them, so my hair is big when I wear it out. When I got a relaxer at 17 it was like I had two pieces of hair pasted to my scalp 😂 I wanted thick, flowy locks ya'll! Instead I got a stiff pony tail 😂 I'm back to my afro, though since I started working, I wear my hair in medium twists.
The girl in the video is a South African just like me .Let me tell you something here in South Africa 🇿🇦 we don't have licensed hairdressers. Our hair suffers more damage in the salon than if we do it ourselves at home.At the salon they leave relaxers for around 45 minutes to an hour on your hair 2. They overprocess your hair by relaxing hair that has been previously relaxed 3.They use fine tooth combs and they comb from root to ends . 4.They don't use heat protectent before they blow-dry hair 5.They use very high temperatures when blowdrying hair So we are better off doing our hair at home
I hated my hair in it's relaxed state. It looked thin and spring, it's def. not for me. Been natural's the best decision I've made for my hair. Been natural 15 years and I love it !
I only ever got a perm or relax a few times in my life, I personally preferred texturized over relaxers because it’s lighter. But the reality of it is when you use this stuff long enough it can permanently change your hairs porosity. Learned this the hard way and had to start over twice.
People really think that the relaxer straightens your hair, but it doesn't. It just breaks the bonds in the hair, the straightening happens when you straighten the hairs during the process, and when you don't do that sufficiently, then it's not even that straight. Then, her hair wasn't even that healthy--her ends were very see-through, meaning that they were damaged; then, she didn't clip the damaged ends...I feel bad for her, because if she wasn't properly caring for it in its natural state, she likely won't give it the extra care and attention it needs due to it being chemically treated, so it's going to just keep breaking.😢
@ I don’t agree. Is less time detangling, and easier to straighten if you wear your hair straight. I spend 3 to 4 hours just detangling my hair properly
Use Affirm and have a licensed stylist put it in for u… it’s much better and it doesn’t break the bonds on your hair like box relaxers. And stretch out your relaxers longer.
1:40 she just doesn’t know how to do hair. I’m confused why she relaxed her hair if she wasn’t going to straighten it. And also her hair looks super dry! Even before the relaxer.
Relaxing = self hate, ignorance and laziness. I agree with the comment, “your hair , your business.” The versatility we have is unmatched! The chemical exposure and increase risk to cancer is not worth it. I rather her wear straight bundles. 4:23 she should had this professionally done or restored her natural hair first. All she did is further damage her hair.
I'd never judge another BW about what she does with her hair. Our hair is beautiful in whatever style it's in. I just ask that those wanting to relax, consider being a straight natural instead. The health and long-term implications of relaxing are not worth having straight hair.
Black women need to stop this that mess causes cancer she’s risking that for stiff hair smh. Her hair obviously looked better and not to mention much fuller before she did the. Her natural hair texture brought out her features much better. Sad.
Not impressed at all. She needs to cut off at least 5 cm. I think her hair was either not healthy enough to handle a relaxer or something went wrong during the application process. Also aren't you supposed to avoid buns and ponytails right after a relaxer ?? That being said I know it's possible to have healthy relaxed hair. However this requires specific care like deep conditioning, protein treatments etc. There are women who achieved it. But is it worth it? If relaxers were harmless for health I would say "to each their own". But it's not the case ! How can women go back to relaxers when it's proven to cause uterine fibroids and cancer ? If they want straight hair, fine. But there are safer alternatives. The safest alternative to relaxer is being a straight natural. I can't say much about other treatments like Japanese straightening or but I have never heard of them being linked to cancer.
I completely agree, I’m not feeling bad for nobody getting relaxers knowing all the health risks and issues it has caused women. I genuinely believe it’s why a lot of bw suffer from hormone issues like pcos and other conditions, people need to leave the relaxers alone. Just straighten your hair regularly and it will become straight over time as if you had a relaxer aka heat “trained”
I only learnt about over-processing, different types of relaxers and protein treatments after I went natural!!! When I was relaxed those stylists taught me nothing and damaged my hair and never fixed it!! My Aveda stylists never damaged my hair. When my Aveda stylist was out of the country, I decided to try a black stylist and she gave me heat damage and guess what between me and my Aveda stylist, we fixed it! It took us over a year to cut out the straight pieces but we maintained the integrity of the hair so that it didn't completely break off into patchy straggly ends and split all the way up the mid-lengths!
@@denyshadials5702 I think some people still assume you can have healthy hair and have color at the same time but it’s typically not true…I just plan to show different videos of women with hair dye as a warning to those who don’t know🤎
@@CoffeeCuties777 If that’s the case, then yes that would help. I think it’s kind of wild considering how many stylists emphasize how bleach can tear up your hair. Some even have you sign a waiver so it’s understood that whatever happens is bound to happen eventually. Though it would also make sense people who do it themselves at home may not be fully aware-especially if they were denied the service by stylist because their hair was already damaged. The many “no bleach” coloring videos where it’s very obvious that developer/lightener/peroxide is being used and the creator doesn’t seem to understand those are just as damaging as bleach. Oh and the people with relaxers that color their hair not realizing it’s gonna take it out completely because those chemicals together make Nair.
I relaxed my hair a few times after being natural for 23 years of my life, it was cute for my pixie but the burning and stinging was not worth it. Plus having to add heat to give my pixie volume… I’ve returned to my natural coils and won’t be going back!
She did a box relaxer in her house, of course it’s gonna come out bad cause she’s not a professional 🤷🏽♀️ relaxers aren’t the problem, it’s operator error. Go to a stylist. Relaxers are easier for some people and their lifestyle. But you’re going to look crazy doing your hair at home in most cases cause you aren’t a pro. The scabs and everything are operator error and not knowing your scalp’s condition. Ain’t no different from color and bleach. I’ve had healthy hair relaxed and I have healthy hair natural and it’s all because I seek professionals and I am also a professional.
@ unless you hand make the products you put in your hair, every hair care product is a chemical. You can have similar reactions to certain shampoos tbh which is why you have to be licensed to even shampoo hair in salons in most states (also why braiders don’t shampoo). The relaxer itself isn’t the problem it’s the user in most cases. An instruction wasnt followed or a warning wasn’t abided by and that’s why you have breakage and scabs.
Unfortunately, I went to a lot of professional stylists in salons who overprocessed my hair and burned my scalp with their "professional relaxer and professional application". Now I go to the white/Aveda salon and not once in 15 years have they damaged my hair or scalp.
@ first of all it’s not about black or white. I’ve worked in both types of salons, you can have issues at both. Them white salons be leaving the bleach on so long your hair falls out sometimes. Also, it still comes down to operator error. Just because you can do a service doesn’t mean you’re good or know how to do it. I never knew Aveda did relaxers though. Maybe keratin or Japanese straightening.
Whew there was one time in life i was getting 2 relaxers a month as a kid. My mom really didnt know any better, shes from the boomer generation. She really thought it was to treat our hair because it grew out wrong. Ive been natural for 7-8 years now, i cant believe i have as much hair as i do
Women are going to do what they want with their hair and no amount of talking and educating about the harm of relaxers is going to change their minds. I grew up being raised by my mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who did not believe in relaxers, so I was natural throughout childhood. I was cool with my natural hair up until I got to high school and everyone else had relaxers and I wanted to be "down" lol so when I was 16 and started working I went behind their back and got my hair relaxed at a salon. They were definitely not happy, but there was nothing they could do about it. I got my hair relaxed twice a year up until I was about 22, and one day, I realized that I missed my beautiful curls so I did my first big chop (one of many I've done over the years, I was addicted to scissors for a long time) lol I never regretted letting the relaxer go and I have loved my hair ever since. You couldn't pay me to go back to the creamy crack.
I’ll just say as someone who has relaxed hair and is almost to my goal of bra length, it’s all about the care you put into your hair after the relaxer if your hair was thin when it was curly of course it’s going to be thin when it’s straight I’m blessed to have thick hair so even when it’s relaxed, it still has volume, but I also know how to take great care of my hair so I don’t have to worry about thinning or breakage❤ ladies educate yourself you can have healthy, relaxed hair. Everyone is going to die might as well die looking good.
When you perm your hair those chemicals gets into your pores. So when you want to go back natural your going to cut your hair more often because it's not at its natural state anymore. It's just going to take longer for it get to back it's original natural state.
Compromised hair is compromised hair. The ‘healthy damaged hair’ rhetoric needs to go. We don’t have it with any other body part-“you can still smoke nicotine and still have healthy lungs” said no one ever. No one said it wasn’t pretty or that you couldn’t do it, but healthy it is not. And that’s perfectly ok. You either don’t care that your hair is compromised or you do. It’s that simple. How long it stays on the head is a testament to its resilience, aftercare practices have little to do with it.
I don’t care about how I look when I die. I’ll be dead so logically how would I be concerned or aware??? Also, the morticians or the medical examiners will cut your hair anyway. Make it make sense…
I’m curious about something? Why does it seem that the natural hair community will often drag a person who chooses to become a straight natural? However, when a person gets a relaxer then we will say why didn’t she just become a straight natural. Lol 😅 I’m willing to bet had that young lady decide to become a straight natural she would have still gotten talked about some. 😬 Can someone explain to me why this is because sometimes it feels like there’s no winning. 🤷🏽♀️
The lovely TikToker's second mistake - after deciding to relax - was doing it herself. She's probably not a licensed cosmetologist/black hair specialist...
@CoffeeCuties777 THAT is how I reverted back to my natural hair in 1989, after six/seven years of relaxers: in salon, in-home; professional bleached and dyed, then in-home. Natural is BEAUTIFUL. Yah created me; I maintain me.
I got a relaxer in the 7th grade after begging my mom for months. She finally gave in after warning me, and it took me from mid back to over the shoulder length in less than a year. (For context, my mother had joint issues and I felt bad whenever she had to do my hair because it is extremely thick, plus she had a relaxer at the time and was thriving) I spent the next year and a half transitioning with braids and cutting of the relaxer every new hairstyle. Needless to say, I’ll never touch the creamy crack again 😂
If her hair was healthy and the relaxer process was done by a good professional, her relaxed hair would have come out very nicely. It would have been thinner, of course, since relaxer actually eats through the hair (it's related to nair), nothing to do with disulfide bonds, but it wouldn't have looked so bad at the ends. She probably didn't have a healthy haircare routine to begin with, which is why her ends look like that, and why she turned to the relaxer at this stage. I guarantee it would have looked similar if she'd pressed it out. If you do do a deep dive on relaxers, make sure you actually read the entire studies beginning to end, and not just the headlines. Because the results WILL surprise you.
I definitely think she should have went to a professional but another commenter stated black women have a hard time finding good stylist in South Africa…and Yes if I do the relaxer video I would like it to be a deep dive because many of us already know the general information out there. Relaxer isn’t meant to be on the scalp and if you’re getting burns and scabs then you aren’t applying it correctly. All chemicals have health risks. Hair color comes with a risk of cancer. I won’t get into other salon chemical services and their effects on the stylists.
I agree🤎🤎🤎
@CoffeeCuties777 yes ppl forget how much maintenance it is to make sure your hair doesn't fall out
Relaxer just reveals the thinness of her hair.
And why would they we using the bs anyway 😂 ..crazyy
i wouldnt say it "reveals" it.
@@akaced
I agree. There’s a noticeable difference for content creators when they straighten natural hair vs relaxing then straightening their hair. Proof is in the pudding.
I’m guessing her hair wasn’t as healthy as it seemed to begin with. Plus I’m pretty sure her application could’ve been a little better.
the way my hair is set up those box relaxers and box dyes are too strong for my hair. I need specialist chemicals and specially applied to avoid damage from overprocessing.
@@marleyhill34do u apply protectant b4 application cause that helps you not get burned
Chemically burning your hair is sure to damage it.
Relaxers permanently damaged my edges and i didnt choose to perm.(mum did it forcibly as i hated relaxers) Ugh im so sngry as im suffering becau se of anothers self hate☹️😢
I'm sorry sis 😢🫶🏾. Pray over your edges but don't give up on them yet. There is still hope ❤
Thankfully my hair is long enough to cover it, but middle part is all I can do 😢
Ohh noo im sorry
The over-all damage that relaxers did to my hair was not worth getting them, or for my children; and now, I can't help but wonder if the relaxers were the cause of my female issues which eventually lead to me having ovarian cysts, and a partial hysterectomy. I was a heavy relaxer user at one time.✨️
I have a friend who suffered from the same thing and her doctor pretty much told her that relaxers were the cause.
Multiple Studies have shown the link between relaxer ingredients to Cancer, cysts fibroids and hormonal imbalance. So sad that I'm part of the statistic.
Yes it was hope u got ur lawsuit money 2
I recently saw a video of a mother who decided to relax her minor child's hair because she got tired of having to "make" the child's natural hair every week. Mind you: the child is way under the age of 10. How on Earth do you hear of the possible links between relaxers and cancer and still decide to chemically straighten your child's hair?
Oh wow…can you send me that video if you can find it again…coffeecuties777@gmail.com 🤎🤎🤎
@@CoffeeCuties777 The title of the video is, "Life lately…I relaxed my baby’s natural hair and I am sad I did it•spend the day with us".
Exactly
Even though there is evidence supporting a link between relaxers and cancer, people develop the attitude “It won’t happen to me”. They apply that same level of complacency to those around them as well. Kiddie relaxers are still alive and well, and a lot of people still use them.
Even without cancer, there are so many other negative factors that come with relaxers, until Idk why anyone would take the risk when we have so many alternatives. Oh well.
I can tell by how her hair looked wet that she didn’t apply that virgin relaxer properly. Also her hair was damaged prior to the relaxer.
@@CoffeeCuties777and thank you for what you do, I’m loving your content. Keep up the great work ❤
Didn't it come out all the women/ girls on the relaxer boxes and advertisements had natural hair?
Yep 👍🏾 they were super dishonest 🤦🏾♀️
I am so thankful that I actually DO NOT know this process.😔. My mother never chemically straightened our hair and I never chose to do it for myself.
Same. So thankful my mom and grandma took the time to care for my natural hair and instilled the teachings in me to do the same.
I personally agree🤎🤎
Strongly disagree. Not all straight natural hair looks good either. Definitely depends on the stylist
You loose the appearance of density. More than likely the cc already had fine strands and her hair appeared thicker because of its coily state.
My hair is like this. ultra-fine with high density. Once stylists overprocess it, it loses all volume and the ends are fried!
Agreed. She may also need a trim/cut to remove any split ends or breakage.
If I start talking about what relaxers did to me I would start crying. I’m still recovering from the damage relaxer did to my scalp it’s been 8years y’all.
Many of us can relate unfortunately 😔
It's been so long since I had a relaxer that i forgot the black scabs i would get. It didn't matter how long it sat in my hair, how much Vaseline used, or stregnth of the relaxer scabs were guaranteed.
Same here🤎
This woman is a South African.
It grew long and i am still retaining length despite the damage 💔
I am now at bra strap length i never thought my hair could get this long.I do my hair myself and its getting longer.
@@KiraBKADestroyerOfWorlds It's difficult to detangle.
I can see relaxers exposing the damage that was already there and also it’s adding to the damage by destroying the bonds🤎🤎
I got a silk press recently for the first time after being natural for over 10 years and it made me realise I have no desire to relax! I loved the length but my hair was so flat!!!! As it got older the volume came back and I loved it! Natural is versatile! I love it 🥰
🤎🤎🤎🤎
I'm so happy with my natural hair and its waaaaayyy less work and prettier than relaxed hair
And one more thing. I can see the relaxed and "straight natural" girlies coming back no natural hair soon because of heat damage and thinning 🤷🏾♀️
Omg 😳 u reminded me of pink cream and I can see a lot of women returning back to natural after damage as well🤎
I’ve been tempted to relax, but I remembered how thin my relaxed hair was and plus I like my natural hair and it’s so versatile. If I want to give my hair a break, I wear wigs, get braids/twists etc. My hair in its natural state is healthy and appears more thicker and it’s growing nicely.
Yes! Here to encourage you to stay natural! Your hair is gorgeous and is beautifully and wonderfully made! ❤
No I’m definitely judging, people still getting relaxers despite knowing the various health risk and the obvious visible damage

I think being natural masks alot of underlying damage sometimes such as split ends. I am not sure her result is all from the relaxer...
She definitely already had thinning but the relaxer did not make her hair look better by any means
I can definitely see that as a possibility but like fin stated the relaxer didn’t make it better🤎
I'm not going to police what a person chooses to do with their hair. Hopefully, everything works out for the sista in the video. 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I would pick the same options as well🤎
I can understand if you enjoyed having relaxed hair....but I never enjoyed my relaxed hair...I hate the flatness, the damage and the having to be tied to a salon.
Oh wow I’m so sorry to hear that😔🤎🤎🤎

I’m having several PTSD flashbacks watching this 😬

Question? Why don't they get their hair relaxed by a professional hair stylist?
The girl in the video is a South African just like me .Let me tell you something here in South Africa 🇿🇦 we don't have licensed hairdressers. Our hair suffers more damage in the salon than if we do it ourselves at home.At the salon they leave relaxers for around 45 minutes to an hour on your hair
2. They overprocess your hair by relaxing hair that has been previously relaxed
3.They use fine tooth combs and they comb from root to ends .
4.They don't use heat protectent before they blow-dry hair
5.They use very high temperatures when blowdrying hair
So we are better off doing our hair at home

I feel it’s best to go to a professional but @bongiweqilishane explained the reason that’s not always possible 🤎
I hated my hair in it's relaxed state. It looked thin and spring, it's def. not for me. Been natural's the best decision I've made for my hair. Been natural 15 years and I love it !
Same here🤎
I only ever got a perm or relax a few times in my life, I personally preferred texturized over relaxers because it’s lighter.
I m staying natural for life! My mom relaxed my hair when I was 13 it was long and thin back then! So I ain’t never going back to that!

I’m natural, but it is disingenuous to say natural hair is easier than a relaxer. I guess it depends how cool your natural hair is 🤷🏽♀️
I was saying that relaxed hair takes work and is not as easy as people try to sell it…both requires maintaining to remain healthy🤎
@ I don’t agree. Is less time detangling, and easier to straighten if you wear your hair straight. I spend 3 to 4 hours just detangling my hair properly
Don’t let there ever be a water shortage. The relaxers will stop and all of us won’t be thinking of washing our hair lol
She could have softened her curls and hair with a texturizer rather then a relaxing still have her curls and when she blows it out comes out silkier
Texturizers and relaxers are the exact same chemicals.
@ in retrospect yeah if you leave it in long enough but if done correctly you don’t lose your curls

We can agree to disagree. If it’s not the original curl pattern, then I do consider that ‘losing your curls’.
Whats the point when it looks like locs right afterwards smh. Even mine was damaged but damn.

Sad.
I have a feeling she is going to regret this 🤷🏽♀️
Same😔
Not impressed at all.
We know about relaxers when are we gone talk a dye? Dye takes your hair out big time and these young girls is out here with green and blue hair.
I just found some videos surrounding hair dye…it’s on the list of videos to record next week….it’ll likely be released this January 🤎🤎🤎
Is there someone out there calling bleach and color healthy? Genuine question.
@@denyshadials5702 I think some people still assume you can have healthy hair and have color at the same time but it’s typically not true…I just plan to show different videos of women with hair dye as a warning to those who don’t know🤎
@@CoffeeCuties777
If that’s the case, then yes that would help.
Awesome 🤎
The fact that those are the effects of the chemical itself is already a danger
Yes they are no matter who did mine I still needed a hysterectomy in 2014 because severe endometriosis.
I don't know what to do with my hair the times I've flat ironed it. I'll just stay with my curls thank you ❤.

Whew there was one time in life i was getting 2 relaxers a month as a kid. My mom really didnt know any better, shes from the boomer generation. She really thought it was to treat our hair because it grew out wrong. Ive been natural for 7-8 years now, i cant believe i have as much hair as i do
That’s awesome…and I’m happy you are now embracing your natural hair 🤎🤎🤎🤎
Straight hair is not "looking good".

Can someone explain to me why this is because sometimes it feels like there’s no winning. 🤷🏽♀️
The lovely TikToker's second mistake - after deciding to relax - was doing it herself. She's probably not a licensed cosmetologist/black hair specialist...
I agree she definitely should have went to a professional 🤎🤎🤎
Oh wow 😮 but I’m happy to hear you were able to transition back to healthy coily hair 🤎🤎🤎
Last perm 2011 and all natural hair does it break off. I think it might be best to perm
What is your natural hair routine and you didn’t experience breakage with relaxed hair?
Can you email any relaxer studies you think would be good for the video…coffeecuties777@gmail.com…thanks 🤎🤎🤎
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her relaxer. She just need to get her ends clipped
Never relaxing my hair again
🤎🤎🤎🤎
Can i dye my hair im scared it will damange my 4c hair, its not thick its quite light?
I personally wouldn’t recommend it and would look for alternative options because her coloring can be very damaging to your hair…I have videos about hair dye coming soon but please consult with a professional if it’s something you decide to do 🤎🤎🤎
@@CoffeeCuties777 thank you
A fail
I think for 2025, we let our sisters do whatever they want with their hair. Stop judging.
No one is judging but we have the right to discuss and inform each other about the different choices surrounding our hair🤎
Discussing facts of hair health isn’t judging or taking away anyone’s choices by any stretch of the imagination.
It’s apples and oranges.
Health and style preferences. No more, no less. Do with the information what you will.
Oh no, an angel lost its wings.🪽😢🩵🤍
