My elementary school teacher made us watch this - have seen every one. I am now almost 31 years old and just found out it was Ben Affleck the whole time.
I saw this when I was in third grade. It was made for middle schoolers, but our teacher thought we were smart enough to get it...we were a special ed class, integrated between third, fourth, and fifth grade. Both series are sources of warm memories.
I've been whistling this theme song for years but couldn't remember what the name of the show was. Last night I googled "laserdisc movie with boat and hypothermia" and it led me here.
Watched every bit of it in elementary school (for science). Absolutely loved it and it inspired me toward science in general. They should release this on DVD or permit it to stream as a PBS doc.
the little boy in this. he shows potential. I predict him one day winning an Oscar for writing and eventually playing a superhero on the big screen, maybe Batman.
Sky chic Does gaming I was just being silly. funny thing is I remembered watching this back when I was in high school when I had spares. and for some reason Ben Affleck's name stuck with me and when Good Will Hunting came out I instantly made the connection.
"Holy Chickens" - CT Granville. My fifth grade class and I burst out laughing when we heard that. It was like the phrase of the year. 10 years later I'm still laughing.
For some reason this was part of my science class that was GRADED WAY BACK in the day i wanna say 96...98...4th,5th grade? We had to keep a keep a full journal of their exploits and document what they did in each episode...I almost remember it being on laser disc too.To this day I have no idea why we had to study this.
no one here saw it when it first came out... i'm along with those that are stunned that they showed in the 90s and further; i guess it intrigues kids to science, observation and measurement. i was born in 1977 and saw all it first run over the air on PBS. i only came looking for it because something reminded me today; it was the maps/trajectory aspect of it.
I watched this is in 1990 in 6th grade. It had such an impact on my life. As soon as I heard the theme music I began to tear up and remembered everything, except that Ben Affleck was in it. Lol. Good times.
It’s such a trip to see Ben Affleck as an innocent child actor and then juxtaposed with his role 20 years later in Boiler Room where he plays a slick and arrogant, millionaire recruiter for a multi level marketing, financial firm.
Nobody "did the captions" for this video. If you have the "automatic captions" option turned on, it's just a computer voice recognition program that puts up what the program thinks is being said.
The Mimi was scrapped about 4 years ago. Too bad she did not survive into the era of crowdsourcing or she might not have been turned into garden mulch.
28 minutes and 48 seconds of video, and both the top comments are about 5 seconds in it. 4:20 - 4:25 Although I got to admit, that was pretty awesome XD
If you turn on the captions at 10:15 (or close to that time stamp) the captions say "bobtailing" instead of lobtailing.Bob must be a whale. Bob i feel so bad for you. Their on your tail.
I watched it ten years ago in 2004. My fifth grade class kind of liked it, but yeah it was a little slow paced. Back then you could still visit the real Mimi, and we did. Now the Mimi is gone, and this show is 30 years old. You probably thought it was boring because its dated. As much as I liked it I can't believe they would still show this in schools. Relevant material should be used. Some of the technology in this must be outdated by now. It was probably outdated ten years ago as well.
As much as I love the show it's probably outdated. The technology must be different now. I'm sure some things apply, but especially when you throw young people into the mix, things must be more high-tech.
Robin Justine Hunt Sweet. It was only 9 years old then. The show was 20 years old when I watched it in 2004. There wasn't much of a difference then either. Cell phones weren't big, and neither were laptops. Today it's a different story.

Sarah Cortes Me too! I was so shocked when he said his name was Ben Affleck.
Your exact comment brought me here. Right when I heard the theme song I was like 😁
My Teacher did as well!!
Same here haha.
I watched this is middle school, on laserdisc, am almost 31, and also never knew this was Ben Affleck.
Best days at school were Mimi day and Scholastic Books order coming in.
Completely, I remember loving both these days/events too!! :)
Don’t forget the newest release of where’s Waldo books and reading rainbow!
I remember watching this in 1991 in 6th grade. Lots of good memories
My 3rd grade class watched the whole series back in 85....
Man do I miss that time!
@@mukinza yes, as do I.
Me and my 3 brothers watching this a long time ago.
"Holy chickens that's all peanut butter?" Ahhhhhh memories.
Costco peanut butter
For someone who would later go on to play a future Batman, he sure does a good Robin impression.

forever associated with 4th grade growing up in Maryland... looking back, man the action was so slow!
"Holy Chickens" - CT Granville. My fifth grade class and I burst out laughing when we heard that. It was like the phrase of the year. 10 years later I'm still laughing.
Watched every episode when I was a tiny tot. And just now, 30+ years later, understand why every time I see sign language, I crave peanut butter.
That theme song brings me memories from 3rd grade
Is anyone else here because of 'The Graham Norton Show'?
Dr. Leo's class - 6th grade
For some reason this was part of my science class that was GRADED WAY BACK in the day i wanna say 96...98...4th,5th grade? Right when Rachel bites into that apple... Perfect timing...
My 6th Grade science teacher made us watch this show, not sure why though.

the computer is so ancient. haha.

Imagine the bad Yelp review that captain would get these days
The Mimi was scrapped about 4 years ago. Too bad she did not survive into the era of crowdsourcing or she might not have been turned into garden mulch.
Back in the day I got to see the Mimi in person
I wanted to slap CT after he stuck his nasty finger in the peanut butter, wth??!!
28 minutes and 48 seconds of video, and both the top comments are about 5 seconds in it.
4:20 - 4:25
Although I got to admit, that was pretty awesome XD
9:57 "Holy F---!"
1:28 Captain Granville was a little harsh. I'd have just said in a calm manner, "Let's try to move things along , okay?"
I like Sally Ruth.
I loved this show as a kid, I forgot how lame the acting and captain asshole was! The theme and the whales are still the best part.
to true also at 2:13

As much as I love the show it's probably outdated. The technology must be different now. I'm sure some things apply, but especially when you throw young people into the mix, things must be more high-tech.
it was amazing and cool and educational 23 years ago for me in 5th grade
