@@MrGreenAKAguci00 Thank you for the kind words! Adam checking out my work would be such a dream!! You’re right, I bet he would be able to find out the true scale
As a firearm SME and 3D printing alike. This is awesome. The best advice I got in my career. The moment a project gets difficult - that is EXACTLY when the project is coming to fruition.
piece of advice: whenever designing a firearm, real or prop, ALWAYS start the design around the dimensions of the ammunition. if the show is like the movie, the caliber and chamber is .22 long-rifle. the industrial standard dimensions for that round, like any other round, are easily researched.
Absolutely incredible production quality. I always find the videos that include the struggling and setbacks in a project to be the most relatable, and the ones I gravitate towards the most. I would love to see a part 2!
Thanks so much for the encouraging words!! Also, thanks for mentioning the struggle bit - I wasn't sure if I should include it or not, but reading your comment is reassuring.
I haven't seen this particular adaptation, but I have RE'ed and built cad models of firearms based on pictures and calculations and understanding of the underlying theory. This is usually how this process goes, but there's usually a few critical tolerances, and the rest of it doesn't matter. I'd probably try getting an aluminum or carbon fiber tube off amazon so you don't have to print barrel components. The original movie used a pad from a crutch as a stock. Could also use crutch tubes or use those for model dimensions.
Super cool video, def earned my sub! Maybe easiest and most accurate reference to scale would have been to use the bore at the end of the barrel. Assuming the caliber was known, that would give you a known measurement. Let’s say it was a .22 caliber, which is 5.56mm. Use that measurement to obtain the outside diameter of the suppressor. That would give you a good measurement to scale the remainder on a side profile. Additionally the rifles doesn’t seem to have a heavy barrel which, most .22 barrels have an outside diameter of 7.938mm. Lastly, if you can get a good scene of a round being loaded and it’s not at a wonky angle, the bullet caliber would be a known dimension as well. Assuming all three of these, one should (in theory) be able to obtain rather accurate dimensions.
Honestly as a massive firearms nerd, I can say you did a pretty good job. I’ve made a few actually functional firearms personally so now I wonder if I would be able to recreate the actual rifle in a functional manner. Sadly I don’t have the required hardware to make one like this from scratch, but now I really want to try lol.
It would be cool to see someone like Brandon Herrera make one. But I doubt anyone could 3D print an actual working version of it. Maybe you could do it with a small caliber with a titanium printer. Looked he used a 300 blackout in the show. Even with a subsonic load that's still a lot of pressure on plastic components.
@@kenny-d thanks a lot for the kind words - I’m so glad you liked it! (😂 And yes, I’d say it’s a good show to watch - they already confirmed season 2, and it’s only been out for a few weeks!)
Good work. I do similar things designing stocks for airsoft and air rifles. It's harder than people think, especially when youre working from awkward screenshots and movie stills instead of actual technical drawings. The hardest one ive done was the black king rifle from Netflix's shooter series
what a great video it's great to see someone come up with an idea and finish it. If you do make a .2 vison make it so it's a BB pellet firer, elastic bands and a working trigger now that would be epic
That looks sick! I think you did VERY well on the dimensions. for a 1st version it seems very usable. What would be cool is if you or someone else can figure out how to make it launch projectires. Maybe like airgun balls or thinner off brand nerf darts. Tho honestly, thinking about it and the small space you have seems to be a rather difficult task.

The original (book) describes the weapon as preferably aluminium (since it is hidden in a crutch). In the end, it was stainless steel with a finish very similar. An aluminium outer layer, from recycled soda cans, would be cool. At the risk of making a prop TOO realistic.
Great project, well done. I'm sure if you release the plans, others will also make one...... Got an idea for your next project..... the suitcase gun from the start of the series.

So considering the rifle is of a known caliber .22 magnum or possibly .22 hornet couldnt you easily get an absolute scale from the picture of the muzzle?
Hmm good question - I suspect they designed it from scratch, WHILE staring broadly consistent with the custom weapon used in the original film. But that’s just a guess
