Some interesting facts about the Alamo:
The Alamo was originally a Spanish mission founded in the 18th century to convert the local American Indians to Christianity1.
The Alamo was the site of a pivotal battle in 1836 between a small group of Texan defenders and a large Mexican army led by Santa Anna. The Texans fought bravely but were all killed2.
The Alamo became a symbol of courage and resistance for the Texan independence movement. Six weeks after the battle, Santa Anna was defeated and captured at the Battle of San Jacinto3.
The Alamo had one of the first hospitals in Texas and was also used as a post for the Confederate Army during the Civil War4.
The Alamo is now a museum and a historic landmark that attracts millions of visitors every year. It is owned by the state of Texas and managed by a nonprofit organization called The Alamo Trust2.
