One of the most beautiful typewriters ever made. Looks so elegant and modern, yet with just enough retro styling to remind you of the era where it's actually from.
Golly, what a coincidence...maybe. I was cleaning my Silent (?) yesterday. Dad had it in college, back before WW2! So cool. Thanks for a useful and fun video-- Old Guy
Beautiful typewriter. The biggest question that always puzzles me is why back then when our country was using these we never had cases with Carpo Tunnel.. Now that we have keyboards now we do......... Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video! I recently purchased this model on eBay (in gorgeous condition) but am clueless as to how it operates. This has been most helpful. I have a few commissioned poems to type out and I would have been struggling to learn all of the mechanics on my own. :)
Jaria, how have you liked your typewriter thus far?? There’s one online that is exactly this and I’m interested in it. I haven’t had a typewriter before. Worth the purchase?
I did not get this exact one but I got a Smith Corona DeVillie 470 at goodwill. It feels better than my kalih whites which I use on my daily keyboard! I am planning on writing a scifi novel with it. I am not ready to dive into a full mechanical one though because they are harder to find for a good price, and parts are harder to find to restore one if needed. This video will be saved for later though if I get an older smith corona!
That stink fought me every step of the way, slapping me in the face every time I sniffed the case. I think it was a combination. I believe I tried Concrobium first, followed by several hours of bright sunlight (several days would be better), followed by sealing the case in a plastic bag overnight with dryer sheets, followed by a cleaner or two (I don’t recall which), followed by cleaning with a toothbrush and vinegar, followed by (after drying out) a number of coats of lemon or orange Pledge. All that either helped lessen the smell or at least partially masked it. :)
I've one for years but i would like to get to giving it a nice cleaning. What methods and materials would you recommend cleaning one with? Thanks for the video!
Would you make a video on how to install ribbon, please? My brother in law passed away leaving the same is yours. But I do not know much about the typewriters. Thank you.
@@TypewriterMinutes no. Not yet. I can’t install correctly. Need help if you still have the type writer.a picture of it where the ribbon loop . Or make another video for us. Thanks
Body panels I remove and clean with Simple Green and a very soft toothbrush-You have to be gentle so that you don’t wear off the crinkle in the paint. For the inside of the machine, there are different options as far as chemicals. Lacquer thinner is the harshest (it can damage paint) but very effective at unsticking sticky type bars. Odorless mineral spirits is a good option also. I use various brushes and bamboo skewers to brush out as much stuff as possible before the chemical clean.
This was of great help :) I have a question, I don't know if you could help: the thing is when I am typing I can't really see what I'm writing, the letters are just behind the ink ribbon so while I am writing I can't see anything. It's just when I start a new line I can see what's already written. Is that normal or does my typewriter (which is also a Smith Corona Silent) have some problem I should solve? Thank you in advance
This machine is absolutely beautiful! Just a question but do you mind showcasing later models? I just got a new smith corona sl 470 for 20 bucks (works perfectly and was a steal) and it dosent have a manual. Will you be willing to do a video on this model so I can know how it works and learn some of the fundamentals? I also can't find anything online that is clear
It was a battle. Started with a soak with Concrobium and lots of hours in the sunlight. Then 24 hours in a sealed plastic bag with dryer sheets. Better but still not gone, so then I cleaned with straight vinegar and more sunlight, followed by 2-3 treatings with orange furniture oil (Orange Glo Wood Furniture 2-in-1 clean and polish) which seems to soak into that black material. I’ve heard that lemon Pledge also works. I finally licked it but it was a pain.
Phoenix Typewriter on UA-cam has lots of good videos on cleaning and repair. Also, there is lots of helpful information here: site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/tw-restoration.html

Congratulations very beautiful and charming typewriter, I have the Clipper version but from the 50s less classic but also very beautiful.

Really like the '40's SC portables. My '47 Clipper is smooth as butter, and is amongst my favorite typers. Great video!
Love the logo on the Clipper. Thanks for watching!

Do you have a video on cleaning this machine? I just bought one, and it needs a cleaning 😊
You said you “tried a couple things” to de-stink the case, what wound up working?? The suspense (and stink) is killing me! 😁

I have the same type writer the only thing I need is the case. Would you have any extra that I can purchase from you?
I’m sorry but I don’t.
Thank you anyway. Enjoy your channel.
My god it's one of the most beautiful typewriters I've ever seen... and I know a little about it.
That is a real beauty! Looks like it types nicely - enjoy!,
Thanks!
You mentioned cleaning it. How do you recommend cleaning? Any special equipment? Thanks!

Thanks for watching. I don’t have that model but maybe some day ...
Did you ever come across vertex the luxe braun typewriter machine? have one and can not find any info.
Sorry for the delayed reply. I do not believe I have heard of that machine.
Can you do a how to destink the machine?
We are way behind on our videos as you might have noticed, but perhaps one of these days I can do a video on that subject.
@@TypewriterMinutes Thanks! This has inspired me to look out for a 40s Smith Corona Sterling =)
😭😭 I really want one but can't find one

Worth its weight in , um, Sterling!
Exactly!

Where do you sell your typewriters?
My wife would tell you that I mostly buy and rarely sell! :)
@@TypewriterMinutes Your wife is the best for letting you keep those and letting you stay in the house! hahahahaa

The strips are different. I'm sure someone said that.
Why is there no key for number 1 ? Numbers start with 2 ....
Sorry for the delayed reply. On some typewriters they do not have a dedicated number one key - you have to use a lowercase L.
Typewriter machine how much price india
Hi there. I’m not sure I understand your question. If you mean how much for sale, this machine is now with a new owner.
