I'm a 67 year old male that has dealt with Type 2 diabetes for over 10 years. I've followed all ADA recommendations with very poor results (because their guidelines are flawed!) I was taking 2000mg of Metformin daily and had an A1c of 9.6. My doctor recommended adding Jardiance to my daily meds. When I found out that Jardiance would cost me over $700 a month, it was a real wake-up call. I started my research, and decided to adopt a carnivore diet (beef, bacon, eggs, and water) with 10 miles per day on the exercise bike. I quit my Metformin within 2 weeks because my blood glucose reading were so low. In less than 3 months, my A1c had dropped to 6. I am no longer on any medications and I feel so much netter!
This is the truth. T2 can essentially be cured by going true Keto or Carnivore. I'm in a similar boat except A1C of 14, and everything including my lipid panels (cholesterol etc.) dropped to normal levels after 4 months. Don't fall for the lies of the sugar industry, establishment medical, sugar/carbs are the enemies, not fat.
Exactly what my approach is, doctors will eventually make your situation worse. I personally don't trust most doctors anymore especially since the Plandemic 🎉
@@cloakster I am carnivore for 3 years now. Except birdays of my family 👪 members that I have to eat cakes and other carbs. Sustainable because no calorie counting and eat until full.
Congrats Bob, but again, many ppl report finding it hard to stay on very restrictive diets long-term. If *you* can and it works for you with no bad effects (elevated cholesterol and/or triglycerides), then props.
My husband went from A1C of 7.0 to 5.6 in two months on low carb diet. Off all meds for type 2 abd congestive heart failure. Stop the meds! Take control of your life!
My A1C went from 8.4 to 6.5 in 90 days. Dropped 30.lbs in the process. No alcohol, junk food, processed sugar or fried foods. eat real food. steak, chicken, fish, salads, vegetables etc. No pharmaceuticals whatsoever!!!!!!!! You can do this!!!!!!!!!
Wow! I am a bit shocked at some of this advice!!! I have been on Statins for decades (FH) and they gave me diabetes. I have been on some of the diabetes meds stated here and have NOT improved. Thankfully, I have taken advice from doctors who study metabolic disorders and have gone on a LOW CARB diet and decided to stop taking statins. I don't need diabetes and possible dementia down the road thank you. I have also stopped Invokana and almost done with Gliclazide because my A1C is coming down and I am now seeing readings of around 5 at some points in the day. My best advice to anyone is to AVOID the meds and look at your diet. Eat proper WHOLE foods and avoid sugars and carbs. Don't eat highly processed foods (that come in a box or packet and has a label with a list of ingredients!) The Canadian Diabetes Association still uses the "plate" as advice for diabetics.... 1/2 plate of fruit and veggies, 1/4 plate grains and 1/4 plate proteins. Stick to the proteins and eat non-starchy veg. Skip the fruit (fructose). cut out the grains, and watch yourself lose that nasty weight!!! I am also more alert to possible side effects of drugs which are often NOT discussed. Big pharma and big food are invested in selling their products and gaining customers. REAL food is what the body needs.
I am 68 years old and was taking Ozempic for approximately 1 year. I did lose 20 lbs, but the ozempic totally messed up my digestive system. I could not eat. I was full all the time. Food did not leave my stomach for days and by the time I just quit taking it of my own accord, i was terribly constipated and at one point did not have a bowel movement for over 2 weeks. It has been about 5 months since I stopped taking the drug and my digestive system is almost back to normal., I am controlling my diabetes with basaglar only and my A1C has been below 7.
I completely reversed my 35 years of type 2 diabetes which required 2 different medications + insulin. I did it when I discovered the ketogenic diet! After 6 months I am off of ALL of my type 2 diabetes medication and insulin as well as my blood pressure medications. I think that all MD’s should absolutely be required to have a minimum of 6 months of dietary studies before they can graduate with their degree. Stop supporting the pharmaceutical companies and junk food industries. Prescribe a proper human diet and cure diabetes just like I did! At all costs, DO NOT take any advice from the ADA because they are completely backed and supported by the food and drug companies.
Odd, after ten years or so on Metformin and Glipizide, my body told me that I DID NOT LIKE GLIPIZIDE! I cut the dose to half, but still felt a terrible need to nap around noon after an eight AM dose of the Glipizide. I finally just stopped the Glipizide, period, and no longer have a crash after noon for no reason! My A1c is now still 6.4.......................elsullo
A goal of under 7% is always good! But yeah, my doc took me off Glipizide last year because it causes low blood sugar… I take Ceylon cinnamon with meals now to keep sugars managed.
I had great results with Farxiga and Trulicity. This included great glycemic control and weight loss. I was also able to go off insulin. I had to stop taking them both because of the extreme price. I am retired on a fixed income so spending $1,400 a month for two medications just was not practical. This forced me back on Metformin and Glipizide. I had to also resume some insulin. My A1c typically runs 6.0 to 6.4, so no problem there. Thank you for the video!
Last year, diagnosed as type 2, my A1C was 13.9; my doctor didn’t want to put me on metformin, said he wanted to leave my pancreas alone to do what it does without flogging it and burning it out; he did put me on jardience, and was willing to spend months fighting the insurance company to get it deemed medically necessary; insurance covers it, doesn’t cost me a thing. With a massive change in diet and an uptick in exercise, 3 months later my A1C was 6.2, and has been there since, just diet/ exercise/ jardience.
Step 1 "Life style, diet/exercise" works 100% of the time. No need for drug pushers. Make people take responsibility for their own health. Physicians are enablers treating symptoms not the root cause.
Thank you! I am more knowledgeable about diabetes medicine. Your video presentation has lead me to bring my care team to put me on medicines that are not harmful to my health.
As someone who was recently diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic as is normal i was started on Metformin, i was very ill with it, and once i did some research i found out why. It is reknown for many side effects but by far the worst are the way you end with a very bad stomach even when taken with food, the slow release one is little better. I am now taking Berberine, and fingers croosed it suits me far better, doctors only prescribe Metformin because it is cheap, i would rather pay for my treatment than suffer with a fear of loosing sight of a bathroom.!
I’m concerned about husband’s kidneys and liver. PCP switched him from Metphormin to Jardiance. Absolutely taking into account nutrition and activity which he is working on. 😅
For me what works right now is combo of 1000 mg of Metformin and 15 Humulin a day plus eating 1200 calories a day and walking for 10 minutes after each meal. That gives me 6.5 A1C and slight weight gain (about 5 pounds a year). I should point out that I not only have Type 2 diabetes but also heart failure due to a severe infection many years ago. I can't take more Metformin (I have a very embarrassing side affect when I've tried, maybe related to the fact that I no longer have a gall bladder). I was on Jardiance combined with Metformin a few years ago and lost weight on that combo but unfortunately a change in my health insurance forced that to change. Biggest advice I can give is to insistently work with your doctor. There is a combination out there that will work for you -- just has to be found. It's not easy but can be done.
Can metformin cause a spike in anxiety/low mood or is that more likely type ll kicking in. I have seen some recent posts where people are saying anxiety really cranked up on metformin.
Just had bloodwork. After low-carb for 3 months, lipids are normal and A1C is trending down (now 6.1). Blood pressure normal; weight is down. Doc nevertheless insists I need FOUR medications, including a statin, just as prophylactics. three of them are contraindicated for thyroid patients (hypothyroidism is my only legitimate health concern). One of them is a sulfonylurea. Clearly, selling medicines is the point. Patient health doesn't factor in.
I take Ozempic (once a week, highest), metformin, (2x a day) jardiance, and insulin ( 3x a day)and my A1C is just now down to 6.8 after 11 years . I can’t exercise because of neuropathy in both legs and feet. I was just approved for SSID. If not for the VA, I would be dead. They can supply all my meds ( I take others for HBP, arthritis and depression).
I was diagnosed five years ago. I did a little research adopted time restricted eating and stopped eating anything with added or excessive sugars and cut out the starches. My A1C went from 12.2 down to 5.7 in six months. I lost weight and my blood pressure went back to normal. I had come off the metformin and if I had known then what I know now I would have never been on it.
I took Januvia for 9 days w/o any side effects, then suddenly my left hip became so painful I couldn't walk, so I discontinued the Januvia. The FDA has recently warned about severe joint pain with Januvia, so I'm sure that's where mine came from, as I've never had hip pain before. Just for your information.
I notice that none of my doctors are good at giving useful information. Drugs yes, information no. If patients are not changing lifestyles then doctors need to change their approach to conveying their information. I suggest that you do another video to persuade your patients to have a real “come to Jesus” moment and change their dangerous habits. The information is out there. It just needs to be sold to the patients.
My PCP and endocrinologist always talk about diet first. The problem is not everyone wants to make those changes so the meds are prescribed to get the values under control. Ultimately, it's up to the patient as you said. The most important factor for me was weight loss. The "what you eat" didn't matter as much as "how much you eat". I have to be in a calorie deficit to do well. Way too much fear mongering out there about certain types of foods. I've lost almost 60 pounds and I still eat bread, pasta, and some potatoes. Just watch your portions.
Im on metformin.. 1000mg x twice a day ... invokana 300mg per day... candesartan 8mg per day... gliclazide 2 80mg twice a day.. should i take all of these each day... also on trulicity once a week

She also has physical ailments which preclude much in the way of exercise. 😕 My one concern re: GLP-1 use for her is that she has *HF-rEF,* and I’m not certain as to how that complicates matters. HF-pEF, conversely, seems to improve some with GLP-1 usage. 🤔
Thanks for watching. Keep asking and advocating for your mom! Her insurance should cover Mounjaro or Ozempic with her Type 2 DM diagnosis and there is great cardiovascular data with these medications.
my dr who just retired kept pushing high dollar drugs [jardiance 600 dollars a month] which my obama care doesn't pay for and i can't afford, so what do you do?????
I have someone at my office that works full time to help patients get medications free from the manufacturers if they qualify. There are also drug coupons that can be helpful. When you pick an insurance plan be sure to look to see what meds are (and aren’t) covered.
Sadly, I'm pre-diabetic. That's right, I still don't have it. Lousy diabetics... get all the love. What about us healthy folks, what do WE get? We get to listen to all those who've squandered their health talk about what medications, procedures, and surgeries they've had and how much their insurance picks up.
