My wife just made a valid point. Why can't they preserve the root ball keep it intact and replant it somewhere after Christmas. Why do we have to kill everything. That tree is older than us. You could have a raffle (stipulate that they must have the property for it) and give it away after Christmas.

If it's any consolation, that tree will be cut up so that it can be given to Habitat for Humanity to build new homes.
