    Russ Curtis, Ph.D., LCMHC is a professor of counseling at Western Carolina University. Prior to becoming a counselor educator, Russ worked in a clinical mental health center where he coordinated with medical providers to ensure optimal care for at-risk clients with co-morbid mental and physical illnesses. Dr. Curtis’s co-edited textbook, Integrated Care: Applying Theory to Practice (Curtis & Christian, 2012) was selected by The Council on Social Work Education in collaboration with SAMHSA as one of two recommended textbooks for training behavioral health professionals. He has produced two commercial counseling instructional videos, one of which, Positive Psychotherapy: Helping People Thrive (Curtis & Goetz, 2013) was selected as an Editor’s Choice by Microtraining Incorporated. For the past 20 years, Russ has taught and supervised both school and clinical counselors at WCU, and has researched and published in areas related to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports in schools, treating adolescent anxiety, and increasing growth mindset in students.

    Honestly, hearing you say that PCT is one of the hardest modalities to practice was very encouraging! Sometimes I feel like I do PCT for lack of other skills; the ‘congruence’ condition is usually the hardest for me to maintain!

    Started to sound more like CBT towards the end when he said it takes practise to change thoughts and behaviour

    This was really excellent and enjoyable explanation of how PCT is important and can be applied in therapy. Thanks so much for your time and effort

      What are the requirements of obtaining a license to practice in the UK. I’m in a master program in the United States and I am hoping to retire/practice in the UK.

      @@MilitarywidowCounselling is unregulated in the UK . Our main awarding body is the BACP and it takes 4 years to qualify .

      @@kevphillips02 would I need to start over if I relocate to the UK? Or would my licensure here in the USA transfer or be efficient in the UK to gain employment?

    I appreciate you, Russ. You seem to be very humble in your approach to help other people, rather than the arrogance I sense in many other teaching videos. I am taking Therapy Concepts for my PMHNP program and will definitely be watching all of the other videos you have taken the time to share. Keep 'em coming.

    Where can we find information on Carl Rogers saying he is bored ?

    At 0.43 it's said that this is different from the existential. Is there any further elaboration on this, as I am not familiar with existential therapy in detail and wonder what the difference is, and how then we can have Person Centred Existential approach.

    • @russcurtis1
      @russcurtis1  Рік тому +1

      Existential philosophy is what informed existential therapy. That said, practicing ET is very similar to persona centered, and they are both Humanistic therapies.

      The tree symbolizes innate intelligence with no need for coaching when to change. It innately knows when to drop and grow leaves, if it is in good relationship with the earth.
