    Does KOTKING work? Yes, but there are also several downsides. Let's review the pros and cons of KOTKING and my experience with testing it in saltwater. I'm going to try conformal coating before I use KOTKING on any of my FPV quads.

    This is an eye opener.
    All the videos I've seen till now on social media praise this like it's a revolutionary product. Your unbiased and real review with the whole application process and testing is very useful.
    This can be used by both someone looking for a review and someone who already owns it and wants to know how to use it.
    Very nice.

    I love the silicone conformal coat, I haven’t had any issues.
    I will say that a black light or UV light will light up the conformal coat so you can see where it’s been applied with good coverage.
    Another tip is to apply the coat as soon as electronics are opened from their static proof bags, so the boards are as clean as possible. This will help keep the silicone adhered to the surface.

      Good points. I see now that checking with a UV light would be very helpful!

    I’ve tried a product called liquid electrical tape that is a little better consistency and is applied with its own internal brush but if an ESC goes down in the water it’s probably gonna pop. Are use conformal coat on my flight control board and on the motor wires where they connect mostly to keep iron filings from shorting anything out👍 by the way I’m loving this content.

    Great informative video as i just got my first tube of this stuff. so here's a question : can i put the good old conformal coating and rub this kotking as a second layer? is there any harm in that ? thanks in advance

    SCC With blacklighting from MG Chemicals hands down THE BEST! 2 coats!

  • @hellspark
    @hellspark 2 роки тому

    You should do a shootout video of the same test with this stuff vs conformal coating vs Corrosion X, the original waterproofer of choice! And as another viewer said, a blacklight might be helpful when you're applying it.

    Looks like repurposed silicone sealant :P For transparency issue maybe adding some dye could help. Like to make it for. ex. transparent blue. Having only kotking I would probably try a hybrid approach - transparent shrink wrap on electronics and then seal ends with kotking - especially for solo ESCs.

    • @RCwithAdam1
      @RCwithAdam1  2 роки тому

      Totally agree! I do wonder if it really has any special properties compared to silicone sealants. And I do think it could be useful for some of those applications.

    The multi-layer on the edges of the pcb must be hard to cover

    even a barometer can be filled with it?

    • @RCwithAdam1

      No. I'm sure that would cause false readings. A barometer has to be able to sense ambient air pressure.

      I was just talking to someone about that the other day. It’s getting bad. We’re saturated with UA-cam drone “review” channels that aren’t doing anything but flying around awkwardly for awhile (to get your view/view time/their money) and have them tell you “yep it’s good, it flies” and then shoving a buy now link (that they benefit from) in your face.
      I mean good for them I guess. The recipe works. UA-cam is like a echo chamber, people are usually searching for things they’re already interested in so when they watch a video about a drone (or any product) that they’re already thinking about, it only takes a small nudge (and that buy now link) to make them pull the trigger.

      The irony is I never had to worry about putting several layers on and I fly over water more times than not.... I accidentally dropped a drone in the water the other week, shook it off so water wouldn't drip on the lens, dried the lens off, and flew. Landed in a creek two days ago on some shallow rocks and spent a few minutes trying to turtle mode before wading in 40 degree water to grab it lol. Completely fine for another flight. It's way better than conformal coating since I can cover usb ports and a few minutes of picking it out and the USB port is good to use again :) So it's more of a YMMV. Trying to figure out the exact silicone stuff they use and just buy it in bulk .

      TLDR: I can't conformal coat usb ports. This works with one coat in my use cases. I submerge my drones weekly. I'm hoping to find a bulk source so I don't have to pay for a little bottle, so how am I selling it?

      @@jacobscoville2044 Great, then make a video and share your secrets. Why would you conformal coat usb port ? Avoid it and put some silicone grease in there if you are worried about water.

    Not so conformal coating

  • @johnnyrocket3200
    @johnnyrocket3200 2 місяці тому

    TBH, Adam, you are way too stingy when applying stuff. Same with the conformal coating. Here eg, 06:36 why aren't the wires covered? Sure, it's not nessesary, but it also doesn't hurt. Better safe than sorry. And that stinginess leads to lack of silicone under the wires. You have to apply a lot and then move the esc around to make sure it gets everywhere. Lift the wires. What's with the capacitor's connection? Can't see any silicone there. You can't just rely on things. You have to make sure! My waterproof quad looks like a gummybear. That's how you do it.
    Yet a good video :-)
