CHRIS ON THE ROCKS SURF SHOWER - THE GREEN SCREEN MAKING OF BALLITO STEVE’S ROCK SHOWER PRODUCTION

A storm on the sea can be quite intense. At Steve's Rock the effects can be seen in full glory. Imagine somebody is sitting on those rocks during such a storm. I have decided to explore this experimentally. This is how I have done it.
My neighbour stood on a stepladder, and he poured a bucket of water over me while I sat on my green chair in front of a green screen.
And then I cleaned out the green screen by shining it through to a pure green background on my video editing software.
The background green screen is then made transparent to any new background that may be added at the back and a dynamic green mask foreground is created to mask out the stream of water above my head and to make the image fully green everywhere.
A full screen green background is added at the back so that the subject is completely isolated against it. The spillover between the legs and elsewhere will blend with the intended final background.
Meanwhile, a scene was taken on video during a slight storm at Steve's Rock which includes a matching sitting rock to correspond with the green chair in the studio. A breaching wave was captured as part as this. The idea is to synchronize this wave with the water stream from the studio shots. So, it is edited accordingly.
The greenscreen parts were then made transparent in preparation for the addition of the rock scene and it was checked for possible distracting flaws.
The synchronous rock scene was added to the background and tested. It worked fine. Problem was that the wave was supposed to have also broke over the subject, not only behind it. The subject was supposed to be obscured by the wave as it broke over. To achieve this, we used keyframe point to make the subject layer semi-opaque at the period when the wave broke so that the wave shone through the subject. That is what we do next.
