One of the best set of towers so far in your archive series Ben! Loving this series! If you're ever in Portsmouth again, check out the lifts in the Central Library, Isambard Brunel car park next door for some old lifts.
Interesting how the 'Call' button is integral to the metal door soffit on the Bennie Lifts--attractive to owners and builders as it's one less task for the Electricians, one less hole/fixture/outlet remotely wired to the adjacent drywall.
Beno, why don't you do these towers...Highleigh (first tower block in Brighton) - I remember the lifts had oval, black buttons that looked like "Hacks" cough sweets, with a black plastic bezel. Somerset Point in Brighton - has 2 weird penthouse flats, a telephone room and a launderette, South Cliff Tower in Eastbourne - a very posh, private block - where Roger Moore was going to buy a flat at the top, West Point, Avondale Square, London - a brick-built Corporation of London tower.
These tower blocks are really cool, Also *As a video request* could you perhaps try to go to salander gardens? My farther used to live in that tower block in the 70s, and is wondering how that place is doing now.
Think the similar blocks you're referring to are in north Peckham, and some more just like it in North Woolwich. I think these are in Wapping though, not Shadwell....
I lived in one of those blocks moved out in 2005 😂😂😂

Swedenborg Gardens. Wimpey 1001/6 I think. LPS concrete system but brick lined.
Awesome work, pal.
Why are the penthouse flats so small? Why doesn't the lift serve them?
To limit foot traffic?

Why was that there??
It's funny how similar the Bennie buttons and the Express button are
Bennie used some express buttons.

nice video 👍
Great vid!
older car top panels are very interesting.
Many of those tiles looke like they have been replaced. At least the silicon on many of them looks like less than 10 years old.
Secret staircase looks Victorian!
I bet the phone wires would get a bad resistance test if Openreach tested the lines to each flat.
I live in a 1950s block but it doesn't have a lift
DC post AC? I’m not sure what that means...trying to understand through your accent is challenging. Great video!
He said DC pulse AC
Do the Bennie lifts still exist ?
Yes
