Same in my country when it comes to accidents on a highway: people slow down on the lanes going the opposite direction and nearly kiss the guardrail just to get as close as possible while making video's... I'm glad the police is now starting to report people's numberplates if it's the driver doing that, or if the driver slows down for a passenger to be able to do something like that just because of the immense danger it causes for someone not noticing in time and slamming into the car in front.
Stay. Away. From the engines. Stay. Away. from the firefighters. Get Away. From the scene. Get your cars away, get people away, and let the guys do their jobs. When these guys show up, there should be zero reason for them to wait for jackasses to move.
I am a retired firefighter and I can honestly say we could have saved so many more properties if we hadn't had to watch out for the people nosing around in our way.As it was,we hafd to work the fire scene and babysit the people at the same time.We had no choice but to protect them from harm.Lives,even stupid ones,are more important than property.

One of the biggest misconceptions people tend to have about a fire inside a house is that it's quickly visible on the outside, whereas for it to do that has already consumed most of the inside to the point it's destroyed. We might not have as many fully wooden homes here, but the fire department in my country typically requests people to not try and extinguish a small fire inside their home because of how quickly it can get out of hand but call the fire department immediately. There have been a few PSA's in which someone had a flashover in a pan containing oil setting the curtain on fire, and someone decides to try and fill a bucket to throw on it, and it had the fire spreading all while filling the bucket up to a point it was already next to impossible to get close enough to it to effectively fight it. What also never cease to amaze me is how long it can feel for an ambulance or other emergency vehicle to arrive after you've made the call. My dad took a serious fall in the bathroom in the beginning of 2021 and it took 3 minutes after calling the ambulance to it getting here, but it felt like 30 minutes.
I didn't see any people hindering the firefighters here...they were all across the street and on the corner watching and filming. However, those cars parked in front of the house should have been MOVED by owners immediately!
OMG. I’m glad I wasn’t the only person thought this. The building I lived in had 19 apartments in it. That’s the only time I’ve ever seen so many people standing around a fire- because they lived there. Multiple dwellings fires people stand around in shock watching everything disappear in huge flames and clouds of smoke 😢

Or the fact that people were pulling in front of the house to watch the fire. You are in the way. And once that fire truck pulls up you arent going anywhere. Pull around the block and walk over like everyone else.

I pulled up the aftermath photo of the fire and was amazed that there was even anything left. The house was still recognizable. The neighbor house to the right looked terrible. So sorry for their loss.

I once watched three LACo firemen lift an LASD patrol car rear end and rotate it 90 degrees in about three "squat lifts" to move it out of the way of a fire road. 70's, rear wheel drive, whatever patrol cars were then. Big Plymouth, Dodge. Heavy car, heavy chrome bumper.
It is incredible how quickly they responded to this. They went from a house fire, and ten to fifteen minutes later, there's probably 30-45 fire fighters and support staff there...
For everybody asking about the tree: it's called a blue jacaranda. They are quite common here in Australia, and i had one in my back yard growing up. I wonder if its still there.
This is the third time I have watched this and I am still amazed at how fast the fire grew. From a few wisps of light smoke to billowing clouds of black and visible fire was less than 5 mins. This is why you should, I mean MUST have smoke alarms in your home. If anyone was sleeping in an upstairs room by the time they woke and figured our there was a major problem it would have been too late for them to get out. Also, without an alarm they probably wouldn't have woken up at all, overcome by smoke and then burning to death. God, what a horrible way to die. Luckily no one was home at the time.
@@thirdgengta It might also have made someone impossible of leaving the home at this stage. These kinds of explosions tend to cause so much shrapnel to fly around that it can injure people that way, should they happen to have been inside during the gas explosion.
Now this is firefighting! Notice how the first two engine companies to arrive grab a fire plug and then lay in supply hose to their spotted positions, while the plug catcher hooks up the hose and is ready to turn on the water. Those Class 1 emblems on the side of their rigs are the result of excellent training and hard work on the part of everyone on the LAFD.
I agree you can tell the difference in the ones that think about the job as there arriving and setting there self up to make shit easier snd faster for them to get water on that house plus there not waisting energy having to run that heavy ass hose all the way to a hook up they let the truck equipment do the work and pull that hose off there dam good job on those guys now I will say those other companies took forever to get water on that house it was ridiculous watching the man wait for water that’s why that second house kept getting worse even though more companies are showing up to put water on it that kinda pissed me off but I can’t arm chair quarterback them I comend them for even being a fire fighter

It’s hard to know specifics for sure, but this is a great reminder 1) of how quickly your house can start on fire if your neighbours house is on fire, 2) how quickly a fire goes from 0-10 and 3) Friggin, knock on the neighbours doors to make sure nobody is in there and get everyone to move cars and themselves outta the way!
This, boys and girls, is why I do not like living close to people. The closer your neighbor's house is to you, the greater the chance your house will burn if theirs does. Give me a house in the country any day.
Wow, less than 3 minutes and the house in fully engulfed. Quick fire department response though, they arrive about 4 1/2 minutes after you hear the kid make the call. The explosion and resultant rapid spread almost certainly means a gas fire. While almost all the explosions are from stuff in the house, a few of them sound as though they might be additional trapped pockets of gas going up. So strange to see such terrific destruction surrounded by beautiful greenery and lovely flowering trees. Great footage, thanks.
Wood burning immensely hot can cause explosion-like sounds, a completely wooden building in my city that went up in flames in 2020 produced those types of bangs so loud they were able to be heard a kilometer away from where I live.

Damn that house went up like a box of matches. From the looks of the debris everywhere that was a hell of an explosion. Which blew all the windows out of the house, allowing the fire to draw lots of oxygen the more oxygen you feed it the faster it's going to grow If anybody was in there the concussion from that explosion might have killed them
Gas explosions have caused appartmentbuildings in my country (typically made of all concrete walls and floors) to collapse....they are tremendously powerful and destructive as a result. It's why fire departments upon getting a call from someone who makes notice of "smelling gas" tell someone to leave immediately if they are in a closed building and to leave windows and doors that might be open, open due to a possible risk of sparking upon closing them (along with the added ventilation that might prevent the buildup of the right gas and oxygen mixture).

I did not see anyone get in the way. Besides, that's one reason police are on the scene of large fires - crowd control. Everyone here seemed to know to stay back a safe distance.

Yah, though, do keep in mind that the water coming out of the firehose nozzle is under a pressure of around 80 to 150 psi (pounds per square inch), and anywhere from 100 to 300 gpm (gallons per minute) - or possibly more! XP

Back in the 70's, as a Firefighter. I had the pleasure of running a 5" hose through the windows of a nice looking Buick parked in front of a hydrant. The car filled with water,never caught fire, and the police ticketed each wheel 250Bucks. Some people are just Dumb. Others prove how dumb they can be.

luckily it didnt park all the way in front of it even though the driver did park in a Red zone, but if he/she would have parked right in front of the hydrant, the fire dept would have probably immediatly broken the windows and put the hoses right through the cars interrior......sure if they wanted to the firefighters could ave just lifted the car out of the way since it was such a small car anyways..LOL
Sometimes in Los Angeles, the fire engines are busy taking care of people with the flu, so be patient, they'll show up. The flu, hurt elbows, you know, the kind of stuff you took care of without calling 911.
In most communities fire trucks respond to medical calls due to the overwhelming obesity rate in the U.S. In case extra help is needed to lift some obese person. That sounds harsh but to many EMTS were getting back injuries.

they never came because they turned the wrong way out of the fire station....they always went the same direction out of the fire station on EVERY episode!!!
When I was about 12 I saw someone in a station wagon turn across the path of a fire truck going to a fire with lights and siren on! They turned left right in front of the it and the fire truck hit them. That meant another fire truck had to be called to go to the fire. There were people trapped inside the house that was on fire and due to the delay they burned to death!!!

Agree the fire was not out. Black grey is still heavily involved, white means water on fire. When you see the grey/yellowish that appears when it’s in the insulation/roof. They were also cutting into the neighbors roof, that is usually to vent the smoke so they can see inside. That means it was heavily affected as well. They would be there for hours to be sure it didn’t start up again, if not overnight.
What did they have in their house for the smoke to be that black? I’ve been a Fire fighter for 8yrs only time I’ve seen smoke that black was a tire shop.
Scoombs Loobooms certain things burn blacker than other most fires I was on was a dark grey to brownish color before we put water on it. I was saying that the only time I’ve seen it that black was a tire shop.

I know every department has their own policy on this, but I'm a big believer in having the first arriving engine lay their own line any time it's practical. We've had many bad house fires on my street. All different types, across the street, next door. I learned a an early age to have respect for the fire department. Especially, for volunteers.
I began watching this video and amid the smoke and fire, couldnt help but think, "Those crepe myrtle trees are gorgeous." I fear I've become too jaded.
Gas explosions are scary. We had a gas leak outside of our house. My kids and husband were inside. I came home late from work and smelled it when I came in. It was coming in through the stove vent from outside. Called the gas company and they messed around with the fireplace to be sure as well. They sprayed water with soap on the thing outside and saw bubbles. They fixed it. Woke up next day took kids to school, came home and the gas smell was ten times worse. Called gas company and he had me turn off the gas to the fireplace. Scared the hell out of me the whole time. So it takes a lot of gas to explode.
I live in The Netherlands en what i see at a fire scene is that the police closes off the scene of a fire so that the fire brigade can work safely and no one can stand in their way. And it is for the safety of the spectators as well because not everybody knows that smoke is toxic and a fire can escalate very quickly.
Here in Baton Rouge the police are usually on scene first to close the street to traffic and to move people away from the scene so the fire trucks have more room to maneuver without looking out for pedestrians and to prevent vehicles from driving over the fire hoses. When the fire department arrives the fighters have their protetive gear on and can get to work without delay.
My guess? Something inside like a gas leak or meth lab. It appeared they were doing construction though (renovations) judging by all the equipment all over, so maybe once it started smoldering it caught something combustible (construction material) on fire and BOOM, house go bye bye
Thought this was a good response from LAFD. Once on scene they linked up quickly to hydrants and simply got water on the fire with good effect albeit it was a good going fire by the time they got there. How many times I have seen units mess around before one drop of water goes on the fire.(Spend more time pulling the house apart than tackling the fire!) Well done LAFD, Good job.
This is why I would never live in a neighborhood like this. Imagine getting out of work and coming home to your house on fire, because of another owners house catching on fire. I would be so mad. Actually better yet, coming home for your lunch break and seeing that shit.
@@randymcnary308 You missed the point... which is that the houses are cookie cutter, matchstick frame homes built entirely too close to each other; Contributing to rapid and easy spread from one structure to the next through exposure. With how quickly things escalated in this, the neighboring houses would have likely had heat and damage but not caught fire, given a few extra yards.

I'm surprised that the police weren't in there to aggressively clear out the bystanders. That grey-haired man in the light blue shirt had no business being so close, standing in the driveway of the house on the left with his phone. Nor should people have been anywhere around the fire trucks, or standing between them.
The guy in the background said "The house Exploded!" I believe it was then that the windows fell outward and the bricks from the chimney, and what looks like part of the house lay on the ground! A nightmare however it happened! There's several more explosions that can be heard throughout the video....Scary! 🙁⚜
I grew up around guns so I can tell you for a fact that those explosions sounded like guns going off. So most likely live shells inside the house somewhere that went off from the heat. Also, what PoyZun Iv said about the windows etc. is normal in a severe fire. The heat and super hot gases are building up and getting more and more intense. Eventually, it simply blows out through the weakest points of the house. Usually, this would be windows and doors. Ever seen the movie "Backdraft"? Once the fire gets a taste of the oxygen that comes roaring in it ramps up even worse. At that point, you are royally screwed. Also, you cannot fight a fire from the top-down as the air movement caused by the water or foam will just spread it. You have to go in at the base of the fire to knock it down. The guys on the roof were pointing the hoses down the side of that house. Most likely trying to get to the bottom of the fire to stop it from taking that house completely as well. If it was a drug fire that would explain the presence of bullets although tons of people have live rounds in their homes. However, smoke from a drug fire is very toxic and dangerous. The cameraman at one point is standing in the middle of the firestorm without showing any signs of sickness or distress so I kind of doubt it was a Meth lab. I saw one fire where a homeless guy was squatting in a property and he created a nice little firepit on the floor! You read that right!! The place burned down with him in it! So maybe a squatter started it? Were any bodies found inside? Oh, by the way, I own a chimney company and we have to learn about fires as insurance companies often send us out to trace the origins of a fire to see if it is related to the chimney or some malfunction of an appliance attached to a chimney. The insurance won't cover you if you were negligent in keeping up on the proper maintenance of your chimney and attached appliances. Have them at very least checked once per year and stay safe!!

I'm pretty sure the explosion would have awakened anyone sleeping in this home, and it would have incapacitated the smoke detectors in the process.

Fire doubles in size every minute. It doesn’t take long for a fire to go from small to tall.
Now this is firefighting! Notice how the first two engine companies to arrive grab a fire plug and then lay in supply hose to their spotted positions, while the plug catcher hooks up the hose and is ready to turn on the water. Those Class 1 emblems on the side of their rigs are the result of excellent training and hard work on the part of everyone on the LAFD.
I agree you can tell the difference in the ones that think about the job as there arriving and setting there self up to make shit easier snd faster for them to get water on that house plus there not waisting energy having to run that heavy ass hose all the way to a hook up they let the truck equipment do the work and pull that hose off there dam good job on those guys now I will say those other companies took forever to get water on that house it was ridiculous watching the man wait for water that’s why that second house kept getting worse even though more companies are showing up to put water on it that kinda pissed me off but I can’t arm chair quarterback them I comend them for even being a fire fighter

It’s hard to know specifics for sure, but this is a great reminder 1) of how quickly your house can start on fire if your neighbours house is on fire, 2) how quickly a fire goes from 0-10 and 3) Friggin, knock on the neighbours doors to make sure nobody is in there and get everyone to move cars and themselves outta the way!

Wow, less than 3 minutes and the house in fully engulfed. Quick fire department response though, they arrive about 4 1/2 minutes after you hear the kid make the call. The explosion and resultant rapid spread almost certainly means a gas fire. While almost all the explosions are from stuff in the house, a few of them sound as though they might be additional trapped pockets of gas going up. So strange to see such terrific destruction surrounded by beautiful greenery and lovely flowering trees. Great footage, thanks.
Wood burning immensely hot can cause explosion-like sounds, a completely wooden building in my city that went up in flames in 2020 produced those types of bangs so loud they were able to be heard a kilometer away from where I live.

Gas explosions have caused appartmentbuildings in my country (typically made of all concrete walls and floors) to collapse....they are tremendously powerful and destructive as a result.
It's why fire departments upon getting a call from someone who makes notice of "smelling gas" tell someone to leave immediately if they are in a closed building and to leave windows and doors that might be open, open due to a possible risk of sparking upon closing them (along with the added ventilation that might prevent the buildup of the right gas and oxygen mixture).

Yah, though, do keep in mind that the water coming out of the firehose nozzle is under a pressure of around 80 to 150 psi (pounds per square inch), and anywhere from 100 to 300 gpm (gallons per minute) - or possibly more!

I live three houses down from the fire. That house was foreclosed on. I wanted to buy it but the bank would not release it. A mysterious fire started. Now I finally have my contract on the property. Thank you.
Back in the 70's, as a Firefighter. I had the pleasure of running a 5" hose through the windows of a nice looking Buick parked in front of a hydrant. The car filled with water,never caught fire, and the police ticketed each wheel 250Bucks. Some people are just Dumb. Others prove how dumb they can be.

luckily it didnt park all the way in front of it even though the driver did park in a Red zone, but if he/she would have parked right in front of the hydrant, the fire dept would have probably immediatly broken the windows and put the hoses right through the cars interrior......sure if they wanted to the firefighters could ave just lifted the car out of the way since it was such a small car anyways..LOL

In most communities fire trucks respond to medical calls due to the overwhelming obesity rate in the U.S. In case extra help is needed to lift some obese person. That sounds harsh but to many EMTS were getting back injuries.

Now a days most firefighters are also trained EMT/Paramedics and most times you see fire trucks show up first to medical calls.

Janice Hisey sometimes County goes to the city to help when city is understaffed or too many emergencies at once. I’ve been to city and I work in county
they never came because they turned the wrong way out of the fire station....they always went the same direction out of the fire station on EVERY episode!!!

When I was about 12 I saw someone in a station wagon turn across the path of a fire truck going to a fire with lights and siren on! They turned left right in front of the it and the fire truck hit them. That meant another fire truck had to be called to go to the fire. There were people trapped inside the house that was on fire and due to the delay they burned to death!!!

Agree the fire was not out. Black grey is still heavily involved, white means water on fire. When you see the grey/yellowish that appears when it’s in the insulation/roof. They were also cutting into the neighbors roof, that is usually to vent the smoke so they can see inside. That means it was heavily affected as well. They would be there for hours to be sure it didn’t start up again, if not overnight.
What did they have in their house for the smoke to be that black? I’ve been a Fire fighter for 8yrs only time I’ve seen smoke that black was a tire shop.
Scoombs Loobooms certain things burn blacker than other most fires I was on was a dark grey to brownish color before we put water on it. I was saying that the only time I’ve seen it that black was a tire shop.

I know every department has their own policy on this, but I'm a big believer in having the first arriving engine lay their own line any time it's practical. (Yeah, I know, there are times when it doesn't make sense, and that's fine. Circumstances always vary).

We've had many bad house fires on my street. All different types, across the street, next door. I learned a an early age to have respect for the fire department. Especially, for volunteers.

Gas explosions are scary. We had a gas leak outside of our house. My kids and husband were inside. I came home late from work and smelled it when I came in. It was coming in through the stove vent from outside. Called the gas company and they messed around with the fireplace to be sure as well. They sprayed water with soap on the thing outside and saw bubbles. They fixed it. Woke up next day took kids to school, came home and the gas smell was ten times worse. Called gas company and he had me turn off the gas to the fireplace. Scared the hell out of me the whole time. So it takes a lot of gas to explode.
When I zeroed in on the street and cross street names; I winced. I used to live (literally) 1-2 blocks from there in the 20th Century

I live in The Netherlands en what i see at a fire scene is that the police closes off the scene of a fire so that the fire brigade can work safely and no one can stand in their way. And it is for the safety of the spectators as well because not everybody knows that smoke is toxic and a fire can escalate very quickly.

Here in Baton Rouge the police are usually on scene first to close the street to traffic and to move people away from the scene so the fire trucks have more room to maneuver without looking out for pedestrians and to prevent vehicles from driving over the fire hoses. When the fire department arrives the fighters have their protetive gear on and can get to work without delay.
Really impressed with the fire department, they are truly the heroes.

My guess? Something inside like a gas leak or meth lab. It appeared they were doing construction though (renovations) judging by all the equipment all over, so maybe once it started smoldering it caught something combustible (construction material) on fire and BOOM, house go bye bye

Thought this was a good response from LAFD. Once on scene they linked up quickly to hydrants and simply got water on the fire with good effect albeit it was a good going fire by the time they got there. How many times I have seen units mess around before one drop of water goes on the fire.(Spend more time pulling the house apart than tackling the fire!) Well done LAFD, Good job.

@@randymcnary308 You missed the point... which is that the houses are cookie cutter, matchstick frame homes built entirely too close to each other; Contributing to rapid and easy spread from one structure to the next through exposure. With how quickly things escalated in this, the neighboring houses would have likely had heat and damage but not caught fire, given a few extra yards.

The guy in the background said "The house Exploded!" I believe it was then that the windows fell outward and the bricks from the chimney, and what looks like part of the house lay on the ground! I grew up around guns so I can tell you for a fact that those explosions sounded like guns going off. So most likely live shells inside the house somewhere that went off from the heat. Also, what PoyZun Iv said about the windows etc. is normal in a severe fire. The heat and super hot gases are building up and getting more and more intense. Eventually, it simply blows out through the weakest points of the house. Usually, this would be windows and doors. Ever seen the movie "Backdraft"? Once the fire gets a taste of the oxygen that comes roaring in it ramps up even worse. At that point, you are royally screwed. Also, you cannot fight a fire from the top-down as the air movement caused by the water or foam will just spread it. You have to go in at the base of the fire to knock it down. The guys on the roof were pointing the hoses down the side of that house. Most likely trying to get to the bottom of the fire to stop it from taking that house completely as well. If it was a drug fire that would explain the presence of bullets although tons of people have live rounds in their homes. However, smoke from a drug fire is very toxic and dangerous. The cameraman at one point is standing in the middle of the firestorm without showing any signs of sickness or distress so I kind of doubt it was a Meth lab. I saw one fire where a homeless guy was squatting in a property and he created a nice little firepit on the floor! You read that right!! The place burned down with him in it! So maybe a squatter started it? Were any bodies found inside? Oh, by the way, I own a chimney company and we have to learn about fires as insurance companies often send us out to trace the origins of a fire to see if it is related to the chimney or some malfunction of an appliance attached to a chimney. The insurance won't cover you if you were negligent in keeping up on the proper maintenance of your chimney and attached appliances. Have them at very least checked once per year and stay safe!!
